Iran fired at unarmed US drone, Pentagon says

Published November 08, 2012

FoxNews.co

Iran fired on an unarmed U.S. drone last week as it was hovering in international airspace, the Pentagon announced Thursday.

Spokesman George Little said the incident, which marks the first time the Iranians have fired on a U.S. drone, occurred Nov. 1 at 4:50 a.m. ET.

He said the unarmed, unmanned drone was conducting "routine surveillance" over the Persian Gulf when it was "intercepted" by Iran.

He said the MQ1 Predator drone, which was not hit, was not in Iranian airspace.

According to Little, two Iranian jets fired twice, missing on both attempts -- the drone headed away from the Iranian coast, landing safely soon

after at an undisclosed location. The Iranian jets pursued the drone for a short period before giving up.

Little said the U.S. government has protested to the Iranians. Asked about how the U.S. could respond, he said: "We have a wide range of options

from diplomatic to military."

He would not say whether there were actually plans for a military response. Asked if this should be considered an act of war, Little said he didn't

want to get into "legal characterizations" of the event.

Little stressed that the drone was flying 16 nautical miles off the coast of Kuwait in international waters, and never entered the 12-mile limit that

would constitute Iranian territory.

The Pentagon announced the incident as the administration imposed a new round of financial sanctions against Iranian officials and entities.

They marked the first sanctions since President Obama's re-election Tuesday. According to the Treasury Department, the move was "related to

the Iranian government's human rights abuses, its support of terrorism and Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps."

The drone encounter comes after a U.S. drone crashed in Iran late last year. Iran claimed to have shot it down, but U.S. officials said it merely

malfunctioned and crashed.

Little said the U.S. will continue to run surveillance missions in the region.

isn't this the whole premise , take the Pitts and the weps out of the loop-- their training is more expensive than the cost of the drone--the drones are built of the latest material , have capabilities to deliver a small static strike from Kansas--whether it is in International airspace or not it has kept our highly trained warriors and equipment safe-- what's a million when compared to loss of 2 air men and a plane-

to even talk about a possible incursion from either side or respond in any way shows you that the ones who task these mission arepoliticallyy motivated to keep their jobs---SAD --if anyone doesn't catch where I am just coming from --a wastemilitaryymisgovernedd by people who never served in the military!

We only have the word of the Pentagon about it being "over the Persian gulf".

Besides, if the drone was violating Iran's airspace and headed back out, the Iranians are still justified to shoot it down. Just because a burglar breaks into your home, steals from you, and gets outside your home with your stolen property doesn't mean you don't have the right to stop chasing him.

Yes, I condone them shooting at us.

Are you an American?

We are there for oil - get real. We were probably in their airspace. The Pentagon would love to provoke an attack on Iran.

Am I an American? My family has an original letter from George Washington. He was in our family. My middle name is Winthrop, descended from the 1st governor of the US, John Winthrop. I am related to two Presidents and Robert E. Lee. I am a professor at a university.

Am I an American? Yes, and a patriot of the highest order is educated in the FACTS. We have an American economic empire going on right now,

so....are you an American? Then GET EDUCATED.

It would happen in most any country that if a foreign drone is detected then the armed forces of that country would shoot it down. The US would, Germany, Britain.. Any Country .. on their skies or even 20 or 40 miles away off coast.. They still would shoot it down... Not surprising if one wants to be intellectually honest about it.

Why the hell would they even want to shoot one down? The anointed one already let them have one of ours they took over and landed in Iran themselves so the Chinese could tear it down and build them cheaper then us and sell them to our enemies. I'm kinda curious in a morbid way to see what dipstick does with his pals in Russia concerning our nukes now that he has all the flexibility!

We UN-negged you DOG53...

TOUCHED must be 'touched' in the head. <_<

Oh, you can chase the robber, TOUCHED, but once he's off your property

you can't touch him.

You could get sued for assault or attempted murder.

Doesn't matter if he stole all your junk and still had it on him.

You cannot touch him.

You're freaking us out --- we knew it was coming, but it's all so real now...

This kook is going to allow the rest of the world to take revenge on US for every

petty gripe he's ever had with the U.S.A.

He's a bitter, small, angry, dangerously psychopathic narcissist.

Rockets are line of sight and not very accurate. Radar or heat seeking if they wanted to shoot it down. Just saber rattling.

Pretty sure the first article I read of this incident stated they fired on the drone with 30mm guns.

I'm pretty sure if Iran flew a drone any where close to US air space, we'd shoot it down.

What a silly little comment hardly worth responding to.

Iran actually minds her own business and all she asks is to be left alone, and stop being harassed about her using her own debt free currency!

Look, I don't care that some people unconditionally support Israel's "wars".

Just Move There, fight your own damned "wars" for a change, and leave our kids alone.

It is also worth noting that 'politicians' commit a Capital Treasonous Crime against the United States every time they violate the Symington Amendment of the US Constitution by furnishing military aid to ANY foreign country with nuclear weapons, including Israel.

Another side note; Iran has the highest Jewish population next to Israel in the entire Mid East.

It is now well known and factual that Israel's Dimona facility possesses more Nuclear Weapons (400+!) than the entire Mid-East combined.

It is also factual that Israel endlessly whines about starting another "war" against Iran for having a Legal nuclear power program, and Iran hasn't invaded anyone for over 200 years!

Israel is repeating the same "nookular" lies against that were used as an 'excuse' to attack Iraq (even Bush had to admit Iraq never had anything to do with "9/11"). Iran is not Iraq. With nuclear armed Russia's financial interests being threatened, this next "war" will easily escalate to World War Three.

Israel is getting desperate to sell this new "war" for Americans to be killed and crippled in.

1) Rose Gottemoeller, an assistant secretary of state and Washington's chief nuclear arms negotiator, asked Israel to sign the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty. Israel refused.

2) The United Nations passed a resolution calling on Israel to sign the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty and to submit to inspections. Israel refused.

3) The IAEA asked Israel to sign the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty and to submit to inspections. Israel refused.

4) Iran's formal notification to the IAEA of the planned construction of the backup fuel-rod facility underscores that Iran is playing by the rules of the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty which Iran has signed.

5) Iran allows IAEA inspections of all its facilities. Israel does not.

6) The IAEA and all 16 United States Intelligence Agencies are unanimous in agreement that Iran is not building and does not possess nuclear weapons.

7) In 1986, Mordachai Vanunu blew the whistle and provided photographs showing Israel's clandestine nuclear weapons factory underneath the reactor at Dimona.

8) Israel made the same accusations against Iraq that it is making against Iran, leading up to Israel's bombing of the power station at Osirik. Following the invasion of 2003, international experts examined the ruins of the power station at Osirik and found no evidence of a clandestine weapons factory in the rubble. Nothing but dead bodies.

Israel wants to send your children off to die in Iran, and YOU are the only one that can stop them. Her agenda is to murder every single Muslim and Arab man, woman, child and baby in the Mid East and steal all of their territories from the Euphrates to the Nile Valley. At that point, America will be so burned out and broke (financially and morally) from Israel's "wars" that America will be reduced to a Third World Country. Israel will then have the opportunity to steal the spoils from everyone and take America's place as a Global Police State Superpower.

“We have hundreds of nuclear warheads and missiles that can reach different targets in the heart of the European continent, including beyond the borders of Rome, the Italian capital… our armed forces, however, are not the thirtieth strongest in the world, but rather the second or third. We have the capability to take the world down with us.”

(Israeli military historian, Martin van Creveld)

Israel is bleeding America dry like a cunning and ravenous leech. the deceitful 'Israel first' media looks more ridiculous than ever trying to cover it up, and their lies are making America the most hated country on this planet, next to Israel.

When Billions of people get fed up with the same old BS, it might be a good idea to start listening to them.

Since the US Army War College is well aware of false flag attacks like the USS Liberty murders and "9/11", the historic reality that Israel & Co have made crystal-clear, is that all propaganda has a "best if used by" Shelf Life.

After being kept around too long, and repeatedly used too much, it starts to give off a recognizable and rancid stink, far worse than rotten eggs and spoiled milk.

Israel's manufactured illusion of perpetual 'victim-hood' nonsense is obviously waaaay past the "Best if Used By Date"!
