Romney stands by criticism of Obama over Cairo attack response

Mitt Romney on Wednesday stood by his criticism of the Obama administration for its early response to the attack on the U.S. Embassy in Cairo, even as he and President Obama mourned the murder of four Americans including the U.S. ambassador in a separate attack on the U.S. Consulate in Benghazi, Libya.

Romney said the administration's initial response to the attack in Cairo was "akin to apology" and a "severe miscalculation."

Both assaults were linked to a video being promoted in the U.S. that ridiculed Islam's Prophet Muhammad. The U.S. Embassy in Cairo at first issued a statement saying, in part, that it condemns "the continuing efforts by misguided individuals to hurt the religious feelings of Muslims -- as we condemn efforts to offend believers of all religions."

The Romney campaign issued a statement overnight calling that response "disgraceful," prompting criticism from the president's campaign. The Obama campaign accused Romney of launching a "political attack" as reports were first surfacing that one American had been killed. By Wednesday morning, the death count was at four.

Romney, as he condemned the "outrageous" Libya attack during a stop Wednesday in Jacksonville, Fla., did not back down from his criticism of Obama.

"I think it's a terrible course for America to (issue) an apology for our values," Romney said. "An apology for America's values is never the right course."

The Obama administration reportedly disavowed the Cairo Embassy statement, but Romney said Wednesday that "the embassy is the administration."

He said the disavowal "reflects the mixed signals they're sending in the world."

Romney went on to critique Obama's overall foreign policy, calling it a "hit-or-miss approach." Romney and his surrogates have been stressing foreign policy after the president, in his nomination address last week in Charlotte, called Romney and running mate Paul Ryan "new" to the issue.

Our "beloved" media would rather castigate Romney for critcising obama and "his" remarks than to criticize obama for, AGAIN, apologising to the muslim radicals who have now killed American diplomats!

Does this communist who calls himself CIC of our country deserve four more years? I would like to hear from the liberal mindset!

What a disgusting and disastrous, but wholly predictable, way to end this day. As you may have heard, the U.S. Embassy in Cairo chose the 11th anniversary of 9/11 to apologize for “hurt Muslim feelings” as radical Egyptian clerics stoked faux-rage over an obscure documentary attacking Islamic extremism. The Obama administration’s mortifying apology, of course, did not mollify the Muslim agitators. Appeasement has nevermollified the practitioners of the Religion of Perpetual Outrage.

Naturally, the Muslim mob stormed the Embassy compound, anyway — and the pretextual violence spread to Libya, where an American State Department worker was killed today* (UPDATE: FOUR killed, including the US Ambassador to Libya and Foreign Service information officer Sean Smith, along with TWO U.S. MARINES). The feckless State Department has deleted its groveling tweet and the White House is in pathetic damage control mode.

UPDATE: And now, of course, the Muslim Brotherhood is calling for worldwide protests.

Let’s cut through the diplomatic blather and Obama State Department’s p.c. charade. This isn’t about ordinary Egyptian Muslims being offended by Koran-burning or some genuine outcry for religious tolerance or widespread anger over how Mohammed is being portrayed. It’s about Egyptian imams and Muslim Brotherhood propagandists concocting any excuse for a violent anti-Western conflagration.

Excuse me... but what gutless, spineless leader would ever want to apologize to these people??? dry.gif

I thought Romney did very well in the Q & A media. He stood strong in defending our rights and the media did try to go another course of direction. Romney needs to be aggressive here on out. We need to continue full force to put pressure on our representatives. Now's the time.

This administration is forever apologizing on the wrong issues. God is watching

There would have been NO 9/11 if Bill Clinton had performed his duties as well as President as he did with Monica.

Wikipedia

Early 1990s

On December 29, 1992,[1] the first attack by Al Qaeda was carried out in Aden, Yemen.[2][3][4] That evening, a bomb went off at the Gold Mohur hotel, where U.S. troops had been staying while en-route to Somalia, though the troops had already left when the bomb exploded. The bombers targeted a second hotel, the Aden Movenpick, where they believed American troops might also be staying. That bomb detonated prematurely in the hotel car park, around the same time as the other bomb explosion, killing two Australian tourists.[1][3] Bin Laden later claimed that he and Isthibshar irfan was responsible for the 1992 Yemen attack.[2]

[edit]February 1993 World Trade Center

The 1993 World Trade Center bombing occurred on February 26, 1993, when Ramzi Yousef parked a rented van full of explosives in the parking garage beneath the World Trade Center. The explosion claimed six victims, and over one thousand people were wounded. Ramzi Yousef, the nephew of 9/11 planner Khalid Sheikh Mohammed, had trained in Afghanistan, although Khalid Sheikh Mohammed did not join Al Qaeda until 1998. Yousef worked in cooperation with the blind sheikh Abdul Rahman who was living across the Hudson, in Jersey City, at the time of the attack. The FBI later turned up evidence that Osama bin Laden, who was never indicted for having a role in the bombing, provided financial support to the blind sheikh.Omar Abdul-Rahman.[5]

[edit]1994 Bojinka, Philippine Airlines Flight 434

Ramzi Yousef and Khalid Sheikh Mohammed (prior to joining with Al Qaeda) planned Operation Bojinka, a plot to destroy airplanes in mid-Pacific flight using explosives.[6] They tested their attacks in November 1994 on the Philippine Airlines Flight 434, which also involved Abu Sayyaf (a Southeast Asia affiliate of Al Qaeda).[7] An apartment fire in Manila, Philippines exposed the plan before it could be carried out. Yousef was arrested, but Mohammed evaded capture until 2003.[8]

[edit]1998 U.S.-embassy bombings

In August 1998, Al-Qaeda operatives carried out the bombings of the U.S. embassies in Nairobi, Kenya, and Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, killing more than 200 people and injuring more than 5,000 others.[9]

[edit]2000 USS Cole bombing

USS Cole after it was bombed

In December 1999 and into 2000, al-Qaeda planned attacks against U.S. and Israeli tourists visiting Jordan for millennial celebrations; however, Jordanian authorities thwarted the planned attacks and put 28 suspects on trial. Part of this plot included the planned bombing of LAX, but this plot was foiled when bomber Ahmed Ressam was caught at the US-Canadian border with explosives in the trunk of his car. Al-Qaeda also planned to attack the USS The Sullivans on January 3, 2000, but the effort failed due to too much weight being put on the small boat meant to bomb the ship.

Despite the setback with the USS The Sullivans, al-Qaeda succeeded in bombing a U.S. warship in October 2000 with the USS Cole bombing.

Bill Clinton was offered Osama Bin Laden by the Sudanese government but did not follow through. Guess he was busy with a blue dress!

Come on, that's cheap. Can you explain 9/11 also?

How bout you explain ? Why is this cheap? What Rod is saying is that this is what radical Islam understands. It is a religion that's worships death instead of life. Strap a bomb on your a$$ and take out as many innocent people as you can. 9/11 was just another celebration of death for them. So lets give them what they want. They want to meet Allah and their virgins. Hey we can help them with that.

In 1986 Ronny Reagan sent cruse missiles not just into Libya but directly to Omar's house killing his wife and son (Omar was not home) in retaliation for killing innocent Americans. I remember it well for 25 years Omar watched his P`s and q`s

No YOU consider it to be a Republican slant. I and many others believe it to be the truth. To apologize is to lose face with this sect of people. What`s really ticking people off is not whats being said but its a republican saying it.

My thoughts exactly. A military response is what's needed here, not an apology.
