Every job I've every gotten requires an ID and a Social Security card....

Due to my excessive night clubbing in my early years I've had over 40 jobs so I'm some what of an expert :)

Good point Plum...Patriot Act requires valid ID for employment...so even if they are

"working poor", they should already have an ID...and as for the "timing" of this whole thing, I could care less...I'm glad it's finally an issue, whether brought up now or later...you should have to prove your citizenship for the right to vote....just like you have to for a myriad of other things.

Yep, from a dealer you do, but gun shows? Not so much.

Nope, because statistics and investigations don't show this as being an issue. It's less than 1/10th of 1% of votes that are ever even considered for voter fraud.

Do you think a person in this country is going to expose themselves to committing a felony, going to prison, and maybe being deported; to vote in our elections? Really????

The ad part of all this debate is that it is more likely to get hit by l;ightenijng then find proof of Voter Fraud, in the last 2 elections spaning 10 years there have been only 10 cases and they have been documented, that is less then .07 per state per year.

Voter fraud is made up to try to stop what happened in 2008, Obama getting elected.

Here's a good one...fortunately Wisconsin now requires ID to vote ;)

The voter fraud hall of shame: Milwaukee voter fraud conviction makes ACORN’s 2010 total at least 15

Yet another former ACORN employee was convicted of voter fraud last week. This brings the total number of convictions for former workers from the embattled group to at least 15 so far this year.

Kevin L. Clancy of Milwaukee pleaded guilty last week to participating “in a scheme to submit fraudulent voter registration applications,” according to Wisconsin Attorney General J.B. Van Hollen. Clancy admitted to filing multiple voter registration applications for the same individuals and registering himself and other voter registration canvassers to vote multiple times while working on an ACORN voter drive.

Clancy received a 10-month prison term for his crime. Clancy’s sentence will begin when he completes another sentence he is currently serving for armed robbery.

“The integrity of elections is dependent upon citizens and officials insisting they be conducted lawfully,” Van Hollen said. “Wisconsin’s citizens should not have to wonder whether their vote has been negated or diminished by illegally cast ballots.”

So far 2010 has been a banner year for ACORN voter fraud prosecutions.

In Milwaukee, former ACORN worker Maria L. Miles, who worked with Clancy, pleaded guilty to “falsely procuring voter registration.” She will be sentenced next month.

Also in Milwaukee, Frank Edmund Walton was convicted of “falsely procuring voter registration.” According to Van Hollen, Walton solicited voter registrations while working for a group called the Community Voter Project. Court documents indicate that after committing the crime he became an ACORN employee. Walton will be sentenced in December.

Yes he is. I know because I am the president and he had to show me his ID! :woot::woot: LMAO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Lmao...... :D shhhh, R2D2

This issue is bigger than just voting. why is it asking for an id is now a crime? We have had terrorist acts on our homeland before. we know we have 10s of thousands crossing over every year. Why cant a cop or a polling place ask for an id?? Why allow undocumented, unidentified persons, any chance at beating or cheating the system?? It makes no sense. while there is little fraud found, how much has never been discovered. because if you didnt find out about it ...they got away with it

Exactly....Voter Fraud happens all the time, but even if they are caught

The crime is hardly ever prosecuted.

because that is what libs, muslims, and socialists do, they cry hater as they hate. It really means that there is no good reason to support their position, and they really don't want to talk about their real reasons.

Sort of cynical SF.

DHR, I don't think anyone claim Reps are hating the poor. It's the manner in which the people here sometimes reference the poor. Sportfisher carries himself as high-almighty and creates division by thinking its the reps against the rest of the world by labeling anyone with a different perspective.

Maggie, I understand there are working poor, but are you actually going to tell me they can't put $20 together for an ID? BS. I lost everything during the crash and was near homeless twice...

Again Maggie, I can say all this because I've been there, and I know what it takes to get out. I realize there aren't many jobs out there, but that's the way things are right now, and if you have to work 2-3 jobs to better your life, so be it.

Thegente, I hope you know I have always respected your views. I hear you about people needing to pull themselves up by their bootstraps. The fact that you did that through such hard times, just shows me another reason to respect you even more. Thank You for sharing that.

However we are talking about peoples right to vote. Not if they are lazy, too old or on government assistance.

I meant to add in my previous post that the working poor would more than likely NOT take the couple of hours off work to go get an ID in order to vote. Every dime makes a difference for them.

Not that it matters one twit to the more fortunate folks here, it seems. But what do I know?

Btw...Im a Registered Independent....so there ya go wink.gif

Your "Talk" sure does not match your "Walk".

You "bet" they do??? You're arse must be gettting pretty big, because you're pulling a lot of stuff out of it.

My grandmother has lived in the same town since 1949, the entire community knows who she is. She doesn't have to show ID at the pharmacy, since she taught the pharmacist in Sunday School. She doesn't live in a nursing home, she still has her own home. Dr? She's been going to the same doctor for over 20 years, I think they know who she is...... Even the specialists she goes to don't require it as a referal...

Oh how I long for the days of moderation and acceptance in our great country......

So do I Kiteman, So do I..... Thank you for adding your voice of reason concerning your grandmother.

I got an ID, I needed it for my job. So nice try....... But good work on assumptions......

What ever happened to the moderate middle in this country? It appears we're either whacko right wing or lefty liberal now. No more Reagan Democrats or Moderate Republicans any more. Just complete lack of respect among fellow Americans. Of course that's why Independents now out number both Republicans and Democrats. Sooner or later there will be a set of leaders emerge from this "middle" in American politics. But until that happens, we're stuck with the two sets of crapola we have now.

I want to be independent too...independently wealthy hahahahahahahahaha!!! biggrin.gif

Ok just kidding kiteman wink.gif

Thank you Maggie, I highly respect and your views and opinions as well. My whole thing is that, yes as Americans we do have the right to vote. No one is depriving anyone of their right to vote, merely making sure those that DO vote, are Americans entitled to that said right to vote as an American Citizen.

Most folks have an ID, and I still stand by the fact that if you really want something, you will figure out how to get it. There's always a way Maggie, even for the most destitute. People in 3rd world countries with NONE of the resources and charities we have, pull it together, put themselves thru college, and have made it to America to become even more successfulI.

I guess I just don't have it in me to give up, and don't understand that type of mindset. It certainly didn't make America a world power or help our Founding Fathers defeat the British. I'm not being a smartass or arrogant, it's just the way I feel. I also believe in giving folks a hand up as well, I've always donated to local food banks and charities, as I've not only seen, but experienced what a helping hand can do for a person. The problem is too many people are comfortable doing the minimum these days..a helping hand becomes reliance, and then simply a way of life...I know not everyone is like this mind you, just as many of my close hardworking friends have been through the wringer as well, and had to take unemployment, or some form of assistance over the last few years...but it was only a temporary thing, and they did all they could to get out of their situation as quickly as possible.

I realize we have crooked bankers and politicians in control of our country currently, and I'll bet even money we still will in another 100 years. Hopefully not, as more and more people are waking up to what's really going on here in America. Even though the game is rigged, I still won't let that stop me from trying to acheive some modicum of success for myself and my family.

I Appreciate and Respect Your Response Gente, You Do Make Valid Points.

I am sure we both care deeply about the constitution, we just seem to interpret it in different ways.

Honestly I don't see us surviving under this system for another 100 years. JMHO

I wish you and your family all the best, I know they are in good hands with you as their husband and father.

many of the states have gone on record stating that they would provide the IDs for free to those who cannot afford them and they would even give them a ride to get their ID.

Come on!!

This isn't about depriving the poor at all. This is about eliminating voter fraud that is rampant in ALCORN and in the democratic politics!

Some of you have bought into their political talking points. IT is a diversion from the real issue!

Yes, it is a diversion, so is the topic, so is the movement. Maybe it needs to be added to the constitution.

Republican Mike Turzai, admitted the true object behind new voter ID laws was to allow Romney to win. How? Ask him or the republican movement. http://northhills.patch.com/articles/turzai-comments-renew-debate-over-new-voter-i-d-law

Cris,

I would expect nothing less..... You do realize you've submitted two different kinds of fraud.

Example #1 is Voter Fraud, so you get a +1 for that.

Example #2 is Voter REGISTRATION fraud, which will never, ever, be cleared up by voter ID bills. So -1 for that.

Comparing registration fraud to voter fraud is not even close to the same thing. If you want to learn more about voter registration fraud, google Thadeus McCotter® from Michigan. He is losing his seat in the House of Representatives as he has been removed from the ballot in Michigan because he turned in hundreds of fraudulent signatures in order to qualify for the ballot. Voter ID bills would not have stopped this.

So you've shown us one case of true voter fraud, performed by one person(or two). So that's a good reason to elminate hundreds of thousands of truly eligible voters from having their vote counted? Sounds to me like you're dropping a 500lb bomb on a wasps nest.

And you thought 2000 was bad.

This year’s election is shaping up to be one of the most controversial in history. Just this week, a federal judge ordered Ohio’s top elections official to verify the identity of newly registered voters by matching them with other government documents. The very next day a 6th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals set aside the federal judge’s order on verifying registrations.

Further igniting the voter fraud/voter registration debate was the news that a national community organizing group is being investigated in at least 14 states and several swing states for massive irregularities. This news would make headlines anyway, but what made it worse was that Barack Obama was a key player in this organization, the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now, in the past. Obama trained its local leaders, represented the organization in court, and worked to funnel funds to the organization. The Obama campaign also donated $800,000 this year to an ACORN affiliate.

What is ACORN?

The Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now (ACORN) is a community-based organization that advocates for low and moderate income families founded in 1970 by Wade Rathke and Gary Delgado. Rathke, one of the most powerful hard-Left activists in America, is a former member of a radical 1960s group, the Students for a Democratic Society (SDS). The Weathermen terrorist group split off from the SDS in 1969. ACORN says its priorities include better housing and wages for the poor, more community development investment from banks and governments, and better public schools.

ACORN is also known for its voter registration efforts.

This year alone ACORN has registered 1,315,037 voters.

Although the organization prides itself for its registration efforts, it also has a long history of scandal. In the state of Missouri in 1986, 12 ACORN members were convicted of voter fraud. But that case was not an isolated incident in the state. In December 2004, in St. Louis, six volunteers pleaded guilty of dozens of election law violations for filling out registration cards with names of dead people and other bogus information. Authorities launched an earlier investigation after noticing that among the new voters was longtime St. Louis alderman Albert “Red” Villa, who died in 1990. The volunteers worked for “Operation Big Vote” — a branch of ACORN — in St. Louis.

On February 10, 2005, Nonaresa Montgomery, a paid worker who ran Operation Big Vote during the run-up to the 2001 mayoral primary, was found guilty of vote fraud. Montgomery hired about 30 workers to do fraudulent voter-registration canvassing. Instead of knocking on doors, the volunteers sat at a St. Louis fast food restaurant and wrote out names and information from an outdated voter list. About 1,500 fraudulent voter registration cards were turned in.

In October 2006, St. Louis election officials discovered at least 1,492 “potentially fraudulent” voter registration cards. They were all turned in by ACORN volunteers.

In November 2006, 20,000 to 35,000 questionable voter registration forms were turned in by ACORN officials in Missouri. Most all of these were from St. Louis and Kansas City areas, where ACORN purportedly sought to help empower the “disenfranchised” minorities living there. But the ACORN workers weren’t just told to register new voters. The workers admitted on camera that they were coached to tell registrants to vote for Democrat Claire McCaskill.

In 2007, in Kansas City, Missouri, four ACORN employees were indicted for fraud. In April of this year eight ACORN employees in St. Louis city and county pleaded guilty to federal election fraud for submitting bogus voter registrations.

And, that was just Missouri.

This year there have been several accusations of fraud against ACORN. Over a dozen states are investigating the organization already. Here is a complete list of the ongoing investigations:

North Carolina — State Board of Elections officials have found at least 100 voter registration forms with the same names over and over again. The forms were turned in by ACORN. Officials sent about 30 applications to the state Board of Elections for possible fraud investigation.

Ohio — The New York Post reported that a Cleveland man said he was given cash and cigarettes by aggressive ACORN activists in exchange for registering an astonishing 72 times. The complaints have sparked an investigation by election officials into the organization, whose political wing has supported Barack Obama. Witnesses have already been subpoenaed to testify against the organization.

Nevada — Authorities raided the headquarters of the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now on Tuesday October 7, 2008, after a month-long investigation. The fraudulent voter registrations included the Dallas Cowboys starting line-up.

Indiana — More than 2,000 voter registration forms filed in northern Indiana’s Lake County filled out by ACORN employees turned out to be bogus. Officials also stopped processing a stack of about 5,000 applications delivered just before the October 6 registration deadline after the first 2,100 turned out to be phony.

Connecticut — Officials are looking into a complaint alleging ACORN submitted fraudulent voter registration cards in Bridgeport. In one instance, an official said a card was filled out for a 7-year-old girl, whose age was listed as 27. 8,000 cards were submitted in Bridgeport.

Missouri — The Kansas City election board is reporting 100 duplicate applications and 280 with fake information. Acorn officials agreed that at least 4% of their registrations were bogus. Governor Matt Blunt condemned the attempts by ACORN to commit voter fraud.

Pennsylvania — Officials are investigating suspicious or incomplete registration forms submitted by ACORN. 252,595 voter registrations were submitted in Philadelphia. Remarkably, 57,435 were rejected — most of them submitted by ACORN.

Wisconsin — In Milwaukee ACORN improperly used felons as registration workers. Additionally, its workers are among 49 cases of bad registrations sent to authorities for possible charges, as first reported by the Journal Sentinel.

Florida — The Pinellas County Elections supervisor says his office has received around 35 voter registrations that appear to be bogus. There is also a question of 30,000 felons who are registered illegally to vote. Their connections with ACORN are not yet clear.

Texas — Of the 30,000 registration cards ACORN turned in, Harris County tax assessor Paul Bettencourt says just more than 20,000 are valid. And just look at some of the places ACORN was finding those voters. A church just next door is the address for around 150 people. More than 250 people claim a homeless outreach center as their home address. Some listed a county mental health facility as their home and one person even wrote down the Harris County jail at the sheriff’s office.

Michigan — ACORN in Detroit is being investigated after several municipal clerks reported fraudulent and duplicate voter registration applications coming through. The clerk interviewed said the fraud appears to be widespread.

New Mexico – The Bernalillo County clerk has notified prosecutors that some 1,100 fraudulent voter registration cards were turned in by ACORN.

That’s not all. So far this year at least 14 states have started investigations against ACORN. Talk about a culture of corruption. It is so bad that Representatives of Congress have asked for the Justice Department to investigate, and GOP presidential candidate John McCain is bringing it up in his stump speeches. The Obama camp is stealthily altering its “Fight the Smears” website to distance themselves from the organization — quite a challenge considering how close their candidate’s association has been with the group.

The liberal vs. conservative, voter fraud vs. voter intimidation debate will no doubt continue after this election. But this year, with the assistance of scandal-plagued ACORN, it appears that — so far — the voter fraud side is winning.

VERY DISTURBING THAT AMERICA IS NOT PASS THESE BROAD STROKES.

In my thinking it is very simple Simple. Obama's vision for America depends on those dependent on Gov't favoritism and handouts to win. He has pandered to illegal immigrants to win their support needed for the election. They can only assist if they can vote without ID.

Ok, I know this may sound cynical and I am not typically a cynical person. However I see the political environment of the current administration full of corruption and cronyism. Bailouts and gov't contracts given first to those who donate to his campaign, Dept of Justice refusing to prosecute or investigate obvious crimes due to the administrations loyalties to their causes, ect...

Sorry Simple, Don't mean to disrespect you. I just feel very negative about politics now and the corruption running rampant before our eyes.

To be fair Romney was far from my first choice for a candidate. I do not appreciate the negativity and misrepresentations either side of the aisle has participated in this campaign.

The right to vote is constitutionally protected, as I understand it. Having a State form of ID may be required to purchase certain items and services, but those items, and services are not constitutionally protected!

I agree with you wholeheartedly that the right to vote is constituionally protected DS...for living, breathing, documented American Citizens. When this was written into the Constitution, our Founding Fathers didn't realize there would be such fraud, along with non-citizens being courted for a vote. I don't think asking an for ID is a big deal...everyone produces them all the time for everyday transactions...if you have nothing to hide, then why not simply show your ID? Too much fraud in the last few elections to leave it to chance. ID is a must!

My Mother is 80 and she has ID. When you go to the Dr. the first thing they ask you for is your ID and Insurance card. If you are on SSI you have to have an ID. As indicated in many of the postings here everywhere you go you need an ID. To cash your checks, to open a PO Box, on and on and on.

And yet, one of the most important aspects of our society, the right to vote...you don't have to prove you are whom you present yourself to be or if you even reside in that district, etc.

And so many say their rights are being taken away. It doesn't take that much to go into the DMV and fill out a form and get an ID. You only have to have your thumb fingerprinted. Is that an issue for some? The majority of us have done it. And it doesn't cost that much. And if you have the funds to smoke, and drink, and even go to a movie or rent a game or movie, why wouldn't this "right" of voting be important enough to save your pennies and get an ID? The excuses don't hold water. Everyone has the right to vote. But everyone should be required to show ID and prove they are who they are. And while this hasn't passed YET, it will. It will. ;)
