Maliki first, Allawi second in Baghdad election – IHEC

BAGHDAD / Aswat al-Iraq: Nouri al-Maliki, the leader of the State of law coalition, is leading in the parliamentary election’s early results in Baghdad with 474,000 votes, according to Iraq’s Independent High Electoral Commission (IHEC) on Thursday.

Head of the Al-Iraqiya bloc, Iyad Allawi, came second with 295,000 votes, while Tareq al-Hashemi, who is a member of the same bloc, came third with 148,000 votes.

Ibrahim al-Jaafari, the leader of the National Alliance List, came fourth with 76,000 votes.

Each of Mithal al-Allusi and Jawad al-Bulani could not get more than 6,000 votes in Baghdad.
