Nineveh council rejects Maliki's demand for sacking governor

ERBIL, June 26 (AKnews)- With a majority vote, the members of Nineveh Provincial Council voted to reject a demand by Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki for withdrawing confidence from Nineveh Governor Atheel al-Nujaifi.

Once more Nujaifi obtained the vote of confidence from Nineveh Council, said Nujaifi's spokesperson, Qahtan Sami.

Maliki demanded replacing Nujaifi over charges of violating laws and Iraqi constitution.

Sami said the Council demanded documents and evidence against charges of "secret oil contracts between Nujaifi and Kurdistan Region… but there was none" and the council voted to Nujaifi once more.
