Tarriffs will encourage domestic production of food which is what Iraq wants. Iraq may not be able to totally produce all it needs, but at one time it was able to. Iraq has the resources to provide domestically for it's own citizens, and they better get it done as the UN has issued a report that food prices are on the rise and globally are 40% higher than the average. This will effect the poor in Iraq, so it's not all about an R/V to fix Iraqs problems. IMO

Thx,Sweety

As I read these two articles, it is not the Economic Committee that is calling for the postponement of the tariffs, but one junior member of the parliamentary economic committee, not the head of the Finance Committe, but a junior member give his OPINION:

"...a student member of the parliamentary economic committee Aziz Sharif Mayahi the government "to stop the customs tariff and postponed until further notice because it will affect low-income people."...

The title may say EC, but the articles state an opinion from one person we have never heard of. Just sayin'. Read the other articles stating how imortant it is to implement the tariffs, and the concessions being made for locals regarding the pricing, along with the WTO article about membership.

Is the postponement of tariffs possible? Of course. It has happened before. But I wouldn't put too much into this guy's opinion.

This "seminar" attended by business people and a few from the customs office, has not been held yet. It is coming up on Wednesday. No one is attendance that can even vote on tariffs. I am not sure which, but it would be the Parliament or Finance Committee that would have to delay the tariffs. It is not a business seminar that would vote, because they can't. Impossible.

And as you have said in another post, the tariffs have been cancelled, a self imposed assumption on your part. Do you realize what that would entail and how Iraq would be impacked? Do you realize what that would do to the negotiations to get Iraq into the World Trade Organization? This is not a small deal to cancel tariffs.

The tariffs may be postponed, but they have not as of yet.
