WHAT YOU WON'T HEAR OR READ ON THE NEWS ....

Just read a post from his facebook home page from my good friend, a Lt. Col. serving as an advisor to the Iraqi Military who is right in the middle of the **** in Baghdad.

We had a successful "special needs" election in Iraq today! The polling today was for the security forces and medical personnel who will be on duty during the general election on 7 March. During the voting in the Babel neighborhood of Baghdad, a suicide bomber carried out one of a handful of largely unsuccessful attacks across the country. Dressed as a policeman, the bomber (wearing a suicide vest) ran toward a polling station after he was discovered by searchers. Seeing what was happening, a young Iraqi Captain ran toward the bomber and tackled him OUTSIDE the polling station. The bomber detonated himself, killing the Captain and several other soliders who had ran to assist. The number of lives the Captain saved probably runs into the dozens based on the number of people that were inside the polling station. he was posthumously promoted to Lt. Col. and his family will receive "Martyr's Pay" at that level.

Tonight you will likely hear about the terrorists who are willing to die to prevent the election from progressing ... you likely won't hear about the Iraqis who are prepared to die to STOP THE TERRORISTS. Advising the Iraqi Security Forces has been sometimes frustrating (usually because of cultural nuance), but no one should question their bravery. I am proud to serve with these men every day!
