Zaid Khalil Shaalan Al-Asadi, Director General of the General Company for the Rationalization of Transport and Communications Projects, told WAA, that the ministry will organize early next year a global conference to open up to international companies in all existing sectors, whether railways, lines, air navigation, trucks, transit, the port and maritime sector. Al-Asadi explained that the ministry will send invitations to the concerned embassies, such as the Chinese, Korean, American, Indian, and even Arab embassies, for countries that have a long history in this field, and the invitation will be for companies, whether governmental or private. Al-Asadi stressed that the Ministry of Transport urges attracting and attracting investment in all its sectors, service and sophistication, as happened in other neighboring countries, indicating that the Ministry of Transport is open to start vital strategic projects with Arab countries. Al-Asadi pointed out that the Al-Faw port file takes the largest part of the ministry's work, and that he will start with five projects in the field of expanding, deepening water and establishing two berths. We noted that Al Faw Port includes 99 berths and that the doors are open for all companies to complete these berths. Al-Asadi confirmed that the Minister of Transport will announce, before the 15th of this month, the Faw port contract, either with Daewoo or a Chinese company. He explained that companies are studying offers in terms of cost and quality of work, and that the field of investment in ports is open to all Arab and foreign companies, especially companies affiliated with Arab and Asian countries. He stated that, if completed, these projects will be an opportunity for tens of thousands of workers in Iraq, and 80 percent of the workforce will be from the people of the country.
