https://www.givehim15.com/post/april-9-2025 April 9, 2025 Do It Again At the recent Healing Summit, I shared for a few minutes about the Hebrew month of Nisan (March 30-April 28 in 2025), which I also mentioned in a recent GH15 post. Over the weekend, my brother, Tim, texted me saying: “I think your teaching about Nisan was not just for the Healing Summit. There is heavy weight on this word right now. Yes, signs, wonders, and miracles are accelerating, but I believe a broader launch is beginning. I feel it may be a prophetic word concerning a worldwide move of Holy Spirit, that God is announcing the launch of revival and reformation through this word. “I believe the truths surrounding the month, Nisan, and the call its message releases will resonate with the body of Christ, causing them to begin moving forth into great, great promise. I think it is trumpeting a call of Holy Spirit to the church to move into supernatural times of promise, just as it did in the exodus and other events in Israel. “Perhaps you should consider doing some Give Him 15 messages on the subject.” A couple of the other team members also commented on the message being timely and expressed that I should consider some posts on the subject. I feel that they may be right. I am certainly not an expert on all things Hebraic, but over the next few days will be sharing some of the insights I have discovered. First, I should comment on why God would choose a particular time of year, such as Nisan, to do or launch something significant. A Messianic Rabbi once asked me (a post from July 25, 2023), “Do you know what the Hebrew word for ‘testimony’ means?” I told him I did not, and he continued. “The root word for ‘testimony’ means ‘to repeat; to do again,’ or ‘do time again.’ It does not mean only to speak about or give witness of something.” As clearly as I can recall, he continued, saying, “It’s as though time is pregnant with God’s words and power. The eternal God releases the power to do or accomplish something; it enters into time and is forever there. His words are eternal, alive, and powerful (Psalm 119:89; Hebrews 4:12). As we implement His laws and the principles of His Word, we can tap into this power. Declaring what He has done in the past – testifying – is one of the ways we do so. “We believe that when one declares God’s Word or shares what He did in the past – a testimony – the same power is released to ‘do it again’ today. That’s why we believe it’s so important to tell our children what God did in the past, and why God was angry with Israel when they neglected to teach them Israel’s history. For example, we believe that when we tell our children about the exodus – how God delivered Israel from Egypt at Passover through great signs and wonders – the same power is released again. Our children can receive the spiritual fruit of Passover and deliverance. We believe the power of what God did yesterday can be released again and again and again and again.” The Rabbi then spoke of “time” in relation to this. “We do not measure time in a linear fashion as Westerners do, as in a timeline. We see time as cyclical and believe that as it cycles annually, and we reach the time of year when God did something in history, it’s easier to tap into the power again. During the time of Israel’s feasts, for example, we believe it’s easier to tap into the blessings God ‘placed’ in that feast-time.” I was fascinated by this and studied for myself the Hebrew word for testimony, eduwth/eduth. Sure enough, the root word (ud or uwd) means “repeat or do again.” The lexicon said it refers to “the continuance of a past event.” For this reason, the Arabic words for “return” and “habit” (doing something again and again) come from this same root.(1) I also studied the word “remember.” For much of my life, I wondered why the Old Testament said, “God remembered…” My thinking was: He never forgets anything, so how could He remember? And why would He tell us in Isaiah 43:26, “Put Me in remembrance...” Why would we need to remind God? When I studied the Hebrew word, my lexicon said it didn’t just mean “to recall.” It informed me that in Hebrew, “Remembering is not merely a recalling of the past but is also a call to action (italics mine).”(2) Finally, the concept made sense: Of course God doesn’t need us to help Him by pulling something out of His memory, as though He forgot about it. Putting Him in remembrance is asking Him to act on what He said in the past, and do it. This Hebrew concept of remembering - recall and do - can be seen in the process of a person building their dream home. For years, they have dreamed, planned, and promised themselves that they would do so; they’ve saved money and waited for the right time. While waiting, he or she hasn’t forgotten about it; the house is always “in the back of their mind.” The timing, however, for various reasons, hasn’t been right. When they realize it is now time, they begin consciously “remembering” the house – not in the sense that they had forgotten about it – but in the doing stage of remembering it…because it is now time to build. They buy land, if they haven’t already done so, have the plans drawn, get the permits, hire the builder, and build the house! THAT…is the biblical concept of “remember”! The Lord “remembered” Hannah, barrenness was broken off her, and she conceived (1 Samuel 1:19). Samson repented; God then said He “remembered” him, and his strength returned (Judges 16:28). God said He “remembered” His promise to Abraham, and the exodus process began (Exodus 2:24). When the right time arrives, and yes, sometimes that timing hinges upon our actions, God “remembers.” Remembering engages His creative mind and releases His great power and ability. In fact, one of the primary Hebrew words for “create” actually comes from the word for “think or imagine.” Individuals, including God, think, dream of, or imagine something (yetser), then create it (yatsar).(3) Might God have planned or imagined revival for our generation and has now determined it is time? Have we “put Him in remembrance” (Isaiah 46:23)? Is He about to “do something again?” And if so, would this month of Nisan perhaps be a time He would announce it? I believe this may be occurring. Tomorrow, we will look at the significance of the month Nisan itself, and why God may have chosen it. Pray with me: Forever, oh Lord, Your Word is settled in heaven (Psalm 119:89). Your words are just as powerful today as they were when You first spoke them. They are alive and powerful (Hebrews 4:12), spirit and life, (John 6:63). They never return void, empty, or fruitless, but always accomplish their assignments (Isaiah 55:11). They are seeds, containing reproductive, multiplicative power (Matthew 13:37; 1 Peter 1:23). Your words produce faith (Romans 10:17), multiply as fruit (Matthew 13:23), and generate victory in battle (I Timothy 1:18; Ephesians 6:17). When we speak them, we are not demanding from You, but honoring You, demonstrating our trust. We testify today of Your faithfulness, and the great works You have done for us. We ask You to do them again. Remember Your promises regarding our nation. Remember Your promises regarding our family members, the prodigals in our lives, the healing of bodies. Remember and take action. Just as You have done before in the month of Nisan, bring forth Your redemptive power. Save, heal, transform, and reform. In Jesus’ name! Amen. 5 min read https://www.givehim15.com/post/february-26-2025 February 26, 2025 The Matrix, Part 2 Yesterday we spoke of prayer that “births” or brings forth God’s will and purposes. This prayer is sometimes referred to in Scripture as travail, not just because it can be hard work, but also because of the birthing aspect. We mentioned Isaiah 66:8, which speaks of travail that produces sons and daughters, and Galatians 4:19, which refers to it in the context of birthing maturity in believers. Today, I want to address another fascinating word that connects our prayers to birthing God’s will on the earth. It is first used in Genesis one. “And the earth was without form and void, and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters.” (Genesis 1:2) The Hebrew word used for “moved,” rachaph, is very interesting. One of its primary meanings is “to brood over.”(1) The Amplified translation actually uses the phrase “was moving, hovering, brooding over.” The margin of the New American Standard Bible also uses the word “hovering.” Rachaph is hovering or brooding over something. But there is more to this word’s meaning. Webster’s Dictionary defines “brood” as “offspring; progeny; that which is bred or produced.”(2) It comes from the root word “breed,” which we know means to procreate. In using this term to describe Holy Spirit’s work at creation, God uses the analogy of procreating and birthing. He was creating or bringing forth life. A Hebrew scholar once confirmed this to me, stating that rachaph is indeed a reproductive term that can refer to the literal act of procreating. Pretty graphic, but it confirms that rachaph is literally a reproductive term. One lexicon defined the word as “brooding and fertilizing.”(3) We know from the New Testament that it was Jesus who called forth life in this Genesis setting. We are told that all things were created by His words (see John 1:1-3; Colossians 1:16). But Holy Spirit was working with Him, brooding or hovering over the earth, releasing His creative power at the words of Jesus, “giving birth to” what Christ spoke. Psalm 90:2 confirms this analogy, referring to what Holy Spirit did at Creation as a birthing. “Before the mountains were born [yalad], or Thou didst give birth to [chuwl] the earth and the world, even from everlasting to everlasting, Thou art God.” Although the words are not translated as such in this verse, yalad and chuwl are also the primary Hebrew words for travail. They are translated with various synonymous words or phrases: “bring forth,” “born,” “give birth to,” “travail,”(4-5) and others (see Deuteronomy 32:18; Job 15:7; 39:1 for examples). Regardless of how they are translated, it is easy to see that the concept is giving birth to something. And, of course, as with Psalm 90:2, they are not always referring to a literal, physical birth but simply to creating something, just as we do when saying an idea, vision, or nation was “born” or “conceived.” Now, let’s make the prayer connection. These are the same two words used in Isaiah 66:8: “As soon as Zion travailed [chuwl] she also brought forth [yalad] her sons.” What Holy Spirit did in Genesis when He “brought forth” or “gave birth to” the earth is what He wants to do through our prayers: “birth” God’s will in situations. As I said in yesterday‘s post, we do not have the inherent power to produce the will of God in situations. We do, however, have within us He who does possess this power, the Holy Spirit. And He is released through our prayers. The New Testament also uses a word that speaks of Holy Spirit hovering around or overshadowing individuals (episkiazo) to release His power and life.(6) The word is used in Luke 1:35 to describe Him doing so over Mary to conceive Christ in her. It is also used in Acts 5:15 to describe what was happening when Peter was ministering God’s healing power. We often interpret the passage as meaning that Peter’s shadow healed people (see Acts 5:15). What it is actually saying, however, is that Holy Spirit was hovering around or overshadowing individuals in order to heal them, as Peter ministered. This concept need not be overly mystical or ethereal. The point is simply that the Holy Spirit’s power is released through our prayers to bring forth the will of God in situations. No, He is not our errand boy or puppet, and we do not command Him. However, He does perform and release God’s will, and one of the ways this occurs is through our prayers. Allow this truth to generate faith in you. Allow it to strengthen your heart and resolve. Be conscious of the fact that Holy Spirit has been sent to help you produce God’s will in situations. You are not helpless; you have a powerful Helper (John 14:16,26; 15:26; 16:7). What an amazing promise! In my prayers, I frequently ask Holy Spirit to hover around people or places and bring forth God’s plan. Where nations are concerned, Holy Spirit hovers over them to bring revival. He releases His power to convict, lift the veil of deception, and reveal Jesus to people. This is what it means for Him to “rend the heavens…and come down” (Isaiah 64:1). When we ask Him for revival, we are asking Him to hover over cities, regions, and nations to bring forth life. We ask Him to hover over or overshadow diseased people and release miracles. When we ask God to shift those in government, we are asking Holy Spirit to hover around them and transform their thinking. Ask Him to do this. Ask Him to hover in our schools, on our campuses, in dorms and classrooms. And yes, ask Holy Spirit to hover in our churches, bringing forth a great awakening to believers. Let’s do so now. Pray with me: Father, thank You for our wonderful and all-powerful Helper, Holy Spirit; He whose infinite power created the heavens and the earth with its intricate detail and beauty. We are amazed at this title and role of Holy Spirit: our “Helper.” Cause this role of His to be a much stronger revelation to us. Remind us that we do not have to operate in our own strength and power as we pray and deal with life’s issues. We actually have the Creator within us! Today, we ask that He be sent to hover over America and other nations of the earth. Send Holy Spirit to release revelation, conviction, enlightenment, and power to save millions. Fill the atmospheres of nations with His reviving power. Release Him to hover over cities and regions, over schools and campuses. We know that Holy Spirit’s overshadowing releases revival. Please do this. We here in America ask for Holy Spirit to hover over the White House, the Capitol, and the Supreme Court. Change people’s thinking in these government positions to align with Your will and ways; cause many of them to be born again. Send a true revival to the government of America. And Father, we ask that Holy Spirit would move, hovering in our churches to release power and birth life. Release His fire, conviction, and first-love passion. Release signs, wonders, and miracles. Send a third great awakening to America, starting with our churches. We believe You will do this, and we thank You for it, in the name of Jesus. Our decree: We decree that the power of Holy Spirit is birthing the greatest revival earth has ever seen, and He is using the prayers of the Ekklesia to do so. **************************** Today’s post is based on a teaching in my book Intercessory Prayer, published by Baker Books. We have been blessed beyond measure, and in some ways, we have generously shared those blessings. The U.S. gives more money in foreign aid than any other country in the world, distributing more than $640 billion globally from 2012 through 2022. We now give between 65 and 70 billion dollars annually to other nations. Since WWII, the U.S. has given over 3.8 trillion dollars in foreign aid.(1) These figures would not include the funds given by the church to fund missions work. And, of course, the most important gift Americans have given is the gospel of Jesus Christ, delivered by thousands of missionaries. Hebrews 6:10 (KJV) tells us, “God is not unrighteous to forget your work and labour of love, which you have showed toward His name, in that you have ministered to the saints, and do minister.” This is a comforting verse. And I know it’s true - God will not forget our labor of love. Along with the good America has done, we have also sown our share of evil. As success often does when experienced by human hearts not controlled by Christ, America’s wealth and power have also been abused. Lincoln’s warning to our nation in 1863, sadly, is very appropriate today: “We have been the recipients of the choicest bounties of Heaven. We have been preserved, these many years, in peace and prosperity. We have grown in numbers, wealth, and power, as no other nation has ever grown. But we have forgotten God. We have forgotten the gracious hand which preserved us in peace, and multiplied and enriched and strengthened us; and we have vainly imagined, in the deceitfulness of our hearts, that all these blessings were produced by some superior wisdom and virtue of our own. Intoxicated with unbroken success, we have become too self-sufficient to feel the necessity of redeeming and preserving grace, too proud to pray to the God that made us. It behooves us, then, to humble ourselves before the offended Power, to confess our national sins, and to pray for clemency and forgiveness…All this being done, in sincerity and truth, let us then rest humbly in the hope, authorized by the Divine teachings, that the united cry of the Nation will be heard on high, and answered with blessings, no less than the pardon of our national sins, and restoration of our now divided and suffering country to its former happy condition…of unity and peace.”(2) America has lost her way once again. Not only have we done so in a secular sense, but America’s current version of Christianity is confused and powerless. Filled with complacent Christians, the church has become a sub-culture, not the counter-culture intended by Christ. We’re now conformists, not the nation-discipling people He commanded us to be (see Matthew 28:19). As tragic as this is for America, it is even more devastating given our critical assignment for Christ among the nations. Revival is desperately needed to lead America back to our roots and destiny! That is why this Sunday, September 22, 110 MILLION PEOPLE around the world will be praying for revival in America!! (And no, that is not a misprint.) Wesley Tullis of International Prayer Connect (IPC) says of this upcoming day: “I want to pass on this HOPE-FILLED announcement, which reveals the great mercies of the Father for America. Since February of this year, He has stirred up our global leaders of prayer in IPC with a strong burden for America. As goes America, so goes the world. “I believe that the fruit of missionaries, who have gone out from America over the decades and centuries with the saving knowledge of Jesus, is now returning to us. Out of gratitude and compassion, intercessors now want to ‘save us’ through their effective and earnest prayer. The 110 million intercessors connected to IPC have agreed to have a Global Day of Prayer for America. This is miraculous mercy!! “And beyond this, September 22nd launches a 21-Day Fast, ending on October 12; the National Prayer Assembly in DC on October 10-11, and One Million Women on the Mall on October 12. “An awakening unto transformation is coming to this land!!!” ******* This is beyond amazing. In my 40-plus years of praying for America, I have never seen anything like this. Actually, not even close. As Wesley said, this is the Father’s mercy. And I believe it will be a turning point. Please join the millions around the world as they pray for us. From 7:00-10:00 A.M. ET, several U.S. prayer leaders will be in Washington, D.C., joining leaders from around the world by Zoom/video, interceding for America. This is a day of prayer added to other days, just for America. That’s why it lands on a Sunday, and I realize many of you attend church services that morning, perhaps making this a little complicated, especially for those in the Eastern Time zone. Pray with me: Father, it seems America is as divided now as it was in Lincoln’s day. The animosity runs deep. Our sin runs deeper. When a people turns to its own ways, abandoning Yours, human depravity soon takes over. America has done so and is sick - horribly so, deplorably so. Taking the downward path of sin, we began serving Baal and his pleasures; eventually, he required payment, now demanding even the blood of our children. Like a “totaled” vehicle, we are a nation past the point of human repair. Only Your supernatural ability, motivated by Your extravagant mercy, can save us. But we believe You are doing so. You will move us from the trash heap of has-been nations, to the showroom of Your amazing grace. And as You do so, our nation will fall in love with You anew, pledging our undying allegiance to You, Your glorious Son, and His eternal cause. Let this day, September 22, be part of this miracle. Let it be the day that the Repairer of “damaged goods” puts finishing touches on His masterful restoration. Then, let this continue through October 12, the Day of Atonement, when an Esther generation finishes off Haman’s evil decree. We ask this in the name of the Great Physician, Jesus Christ. On our nation’s birthday as a nation, let’s “command the foreword” by looking at some of the great declarations and statements made by American Founders. These quotes are powerful, inspiring, demonstrate their faith, and confirm America’s purpose. Founding Father Patrick Henry led the Virginia Militia, was a member of the Continental Congress, a 5-time Governor of Virginia, and more.(1) He was also a great orator. As tensions continued to grow between Britain and the colonists, Henry presented resolutions to the Virginia Convention to raise and establish a militia. His opponents urged caution. On March 23, 1775, Henry uttered the now-famous line, “Give me liberty or give me death.” Sadly, many Americans have never heard the rest of this amazing speech.(2) Here are a few more lines: “...If we wish to be free…we must fight! I repeat it, sir, we must fight! An appeal to arms and to the God of Hosts is all that is left us! “.... We are not weak, if we make a proper use of the means which the God of nature hath placed in our power...We shall not fight our battle alone. There is a just God who presides over the destinies of nations…The war is inevitable, and let it come! I repeat it, sir, let it come. “...Why stand we here idle? What is it that gentlemen wish? What would they have? Is life so dear, or peace so sweet, as to be purchased at the price of chains and slavery? Forbid it, Almighty God! I know not what course others may take; but as for me, give me liberty or give me death!”(3) Years later, regarding his belief that America was founded on Christianity and the Gospel, Patrick Henry said: “It cannot be emphasized too strongly or too often that this great nation was founded, not by religionists, but by Christians; not on religions, but on the Gospel of Jesus Christ. For this very reason, peoples of other faiths have been afforded asylum, prosperity, and freedom of worship here.”(4) The Adams Family The contribution to America’s birth by our second President, John Adams, cannot be overstated, nor can that of his family: wife, Abigail; son, John Quincy; and cousin, Samuel. On July 1, 1776, John Adams spoke to the delegates at the Continental Congress: “Before God, I believe the hour has come. My judgment approves this measure, and my whole heart is in it. All that I have, and all that I am, and all that I hope in this life, I am now ready here to stake upon it. And I leave off as I began, that live or die, survive or perish, I am for the Declaration. It is my living sentiment, and by the blessing of God, it shall be my dying sentiment. Independence now, and Independence forever!”(5) The Declaration of Independence was approved the next day, July 2, edited somewhat the following day, and formally adopted on the 4th. On July 3, Adams wrote to Abigail, with prophetic insight it seems, regarding the importance of what had just been approved: “The second day of July 1776, will be the most memorable epoch in the history of America. I am apt to believe that it will be celebrated by succeeding generations as the great anniversary Festival. It ought to be commemorated, as the Day of Deliverance, by solemn acts of devotion to God Almighty. It ought to be solemnized with pomp and parade, with shows, games, sports, guns, bells, bonfires, and illuminations, from one end of this continent to the other, from this time forward forever. “You will think me transported with enthusiasm, but I am not. I am well aware of the toil and blood and treasure that it will cost to maintain this Declaration, and support and defend these States. Yet through all the gloom I can see the rays of ravishing light and glory. I can see that the end is worth more than all the means; that posterity will triumph in that day's transaction, even though we [may regret] it, which I trust in God we shall not.”(6) On June 20, 1776, shortly before the Declaration was ratified and released, Abigail Adams had written to John of her great faith in God: “I feel no anxiety at the large armament designed against us. The remarkable interpositions of heaven in our favor cannot be too gratefully acknowledged. He who fed the Israelites in the wilderness, who clothes the lilies of the field and who feeds the young ravens when they cry, will not forsake a people engaged in so right a cause, if we remember His loving kindness.”(7) Our sixth President, John Quincy Adams, the son of John and Abigail, was a brilliant man; he was actually serving America’s government at 14 years of age!”(8) On July 4, 1801, America’s 25th birthday, he made the profound statement: “The highest glory of the American Revolution was this; it connected in one indissoluble bond the principles of civil government with the principles of Christianity…”(9) In a speech celebrating our 61st birthday, July 4th, 1837, he expounded on this belief in an even more profound statement: “Why is it that, next to the birthday of the Savior of the World, your most joyous and most venerated festival returns on this day? “Is it not that, in the chain of human events, the birthday of the nation is indissolubly linked with the birthday of the Savior? That it forms a leading event in the Progress of the Gospel dispensation? “Is it not that the Declaration of Independence first organized the social compact on the foundation of the Redeemer’s mission upon earth? “That it laid the cornerstone of human government upon the first precepts of Christianity and gave to the world the first irrevocable pledge of the fulfillment of the prophecies announced directly from Heaven at the birth of the Saviour and predicted by the greatest of the Hebrew prophets 600 years before.”(10) Absolutely incredible! And we must never forget the great Samuel “Sam” Adams, known as the “Father of the American Revolution.” He instigated the Boston Tea Party, signed the Declaration of Independence, called for the first Continental Congress, and much more. After the Declaration of Independence was signed, some wept, others bowed their heads in prayer. Samuel Adams rose and stated:(11) “We have this day restored the Sovereign, to Whom alone men ought to be obedient. He reigns in heaven and…from the rising to the setting of the sun, may His kingdom come.”(12) Happy 247th Birthday, America! To these and other patriots in the great cloud cheering us on, and with whom we enjoy the synergy of the ages, we say: “Though floundering, the dream lives! We shall work and appeal until it is fully revived - your labors and sacrifices will not have been in vain! Thank you for the foreword you gave us; we’re commanding it today.” Prayer and Decree (based on the Founders’ quotes): As Robert Hunt declared and Patrick Henry confirmed, America was founded, not by religionists, but by Christians; not on religions, but on the Gospel of Jesus Christ. We will not allow this truth to be stolen. An appeal to the God of Hosts will prevail again. We shall not fight our battle alone - there is a just God who presides over the destinies of nations. Just as Adams spoke of seeing the “light and glory,” we believe the light of truth and glory of God will prevail and be seen in America! We are “the posterity” that He prophesied would triumph. We echo Abigail Adams’ faith: “We feel no anxiety at the large armament designed against us. He who fed the Israelites…clothes the lilies…and feeds the ravens will not forsake a people engaged in so right a cause.”(13) And we agree with John Quincy and Samuel Adams: “The highest glory of the American Revolution was this: it connected in one indissoluble bond the principles of civil government with the principles of Christianity.” And we will restore this purpose of the Sovereign to America. 6 min read https://www.givehim15.com/post/september-22-2022 September 22, 2022 Reach Back and Move Forward In Yesterday’s post, Gina Gholston shared a powerful dream with us. It reminded us of our generation’s assignment to continue building a highway to the top of Kingdom Mountain. What others began, we must extend. I’ll never forget the day God asked me to agree in prayer with a dead man! “Lord,” I said, “is that really You speaking? He isn’t here; he’s in heaven.” In retrospect, it’s comical to try and explain something to the Lord, but I felt I needed to state the obvious. “He’s dead, Lord.” I reiterated. “I can’t bring him back to pray with him.” The response was simple, “But his prayers are not dead.” That idea rocked me. Now, if you had asked if I thought the man’s prayers had died with him, I would have said “no,” but might have wondered if it was a trick question. The Lord continued, “Until this generation comes into agreement with what this man asked Me to do, I can’t answer his prayer.” This greatly impacted me, as I realized God hadn’t said, “I won’t,” as in “didn’t want to.” He had clearly said that without this generation’s agreement, “I can’t answer his prayer.” The idea of God saying He couldn’t do this really messed with me. I had to know more. I began to ponder Hebrews 11, remembering the heroes of faith listed there along with some of their amazing exploits. However, we often forget that some of those faith heroes did not see the fulfillment of their promises. This has always seemed somewhat contradictory to me. When God searched history to accent great lives of faith, He chose to list some that did NOT receive the fulfillment of their God-given promises. These people went to the grave with unrealized promises from God, yet they had truly believed, even making it into the great Hall of Faith. Clearly, they weren’t deficient in their walk of faith; why then did they die without seeing the promises fulfilled? The last verse of Hebrews 11 gives us the amazing answer. “Because God had provided something better for us, so that apart from us they should not be made perfect” (Hebrews 11:40 NASV). The Greek word translated as “perfect” also means, “to finish; to complete; to mature; to reach the intended goal.” They did not receive the fulfillment of their promises because God wouldn’t allow them to be complete without us. That is incredible! We, today, play a role in these individuals’ callings and assignments. Think about the ramifications of this: without us, God can’t finish what He began through these saints; what He started through them cannot mature or reach its intended goal until we grab the baton and run our leg of the race. That is mind-blowing..! God gave these individuals promises, but He didn’t give them timelines. He did not tell them He would bring the fulfillment in their lifetimes, although I’m sure most of them expected Him to do so. The eternal God, who transcends time, speaks promises that are sometimes more reflective of His nature and relationship with time than ours. At times, He makes promises to people, knowing full well He will deliver on those promises through their children, grandchildren, or spiritual descendants. I wonder what I may be finishing for a pastor or teacher from a few decades ago? Or perhaps even for some flag waving patriot warrior? The generations are far more interconnected than most of us realize. In God’s mind, accomplishing something through our descendants is the same as doing it through us. Our comparatively shortsighted approach assumes every promise He makes will take place momentarily or at the very least before we die! We can’t fathom that a transcendent God might not share our urgency about the 80-year window we think of as life. Meanwhile, God feels no pressure and understands that if He fulfills His promises through our offspring, the accomplishments were for us, as well as for them. Conversely, the opposite is true. The Scriptures tell us that the credits and blessings from what we accomplish now can be reaped by our descendants. Hebrews 7:9 states that the descendants of Levi paid tithes through their great, great grandfather Abraham. They didn’t actually sow the tithe - grandpa did. But they shared the reward. I wonder what blessing we’re experiencing today that someone else paid for! As mind-stretching as this can be, there is an aspect of our spiritual walk that stretches beyond the boundaries of our window on earth. We can connect spiritually with things that occurred before us, and we can contribute to things that will happen in the future. Our prayers know no bounds, as long as we are open to thinking about time from God’s perspective, rather than our own. But Holy Spirit wasn’t finished instructing me in this prayer session. He had a seven-word phrase with which He intended to rock my finite mind. These seven words stretched my thinking yet again, and have resonated in me ever since: “I need the synergy of the ages.” “You need WHAT?” I immediately responded. It is obvious by now that this prayer time was wreaking havoc on my preconceived concepts and paradigms..! Holy Spirit was making me think outside of my God-limiting boxes. What is synergy of the ages? I quietly wondered. Synergy is a fascinating concept. Think of it as a multiplication of power through combined effort. In almost all cases in the physical world, one plus one equals two. But not when people work together. When two or more people combine their efforts and strengths, power is multiplied - not just added. God so loves unity and agreement that He created a phenomenon through which power multiplies when we simply work together..! Synergy doesn’t operate only in the natural realm; it also takes place in the spirit realm. Prayer is one example. Spiritual synergy takes place when two or more agree in prayer. The result is that through multiplied power, much more is accomplished than would have been had we prayed alone. Leviticus 26:8 teaches us about the power of multiplication, “Five of you shall chase a hundred, and a hundred of you shall chase ten thousand, and your enemies shall fall before your sword.” Something unusual and supernatural takes place through agreement - synergy. When we agree in prayer, our power grows exponentially. Synergy also occurs when generations connect. Honoring our parents multiplies our years on earth (Ephesians 6:1-3), while disconnecting from them brings forth curses (Malachi 4:6). Spiritual mantles, another word for callings and giftings, multiply in effectiveness through generational synergy (2 Kings 2:9). God’s plan is always for the present generation to build on the strengths of the previous. This is the synergy of the ages - multiplied power through generational agreement and honor. In Al Sanders’ book Crisis in Morality! He compares descendants of an atheist, Max Jukes, to the offspring of a well-known preacher of that same era, Jonathan Edwards: Max Jukes…married an ungodly girl, and among their descendants were 310 who died as paupers, 150 as criminals, 7 as murderers, 100 as drunkards, and more than half of the women were prostitutes. Jonathan Edwards…lived at the same time and married a godly girl. An investigation was made of 1394 known descendants of theirs. Of these descendants, 13 became college presidents, 65 college professors, 3 United States senators, 30 judges, 100 lawyers, 60 physicians, 75 army and navy officers, 100 preachers and missionaries, 60 authors of prominence, one a vice-president of the United States, 80 became public officials…and 295 college graduates, among whom were governors of states and ministers to foreign countries.(1) Amazing..! When Holy Spirit spoke to me that day, I was already aware of synergistic prayer. I knew I could agree in prayer with the person next to me and multiply power (Matthew 18:19). I just didn’t know I could agree with the generation behind me! Generational synergy - the synergy of the ages - was nowhere on my radar. Time is so much more connected than we realize. The Second Great Awakening isn’t over; it is just on pause until the third wave hits. Billy Graham’s evangelism isn’t finished; thousands of flaming evangelists are about to grab his baton. And freedom’s torch hasn’t gone out; its embers simply await the fresh wind of Holy Spirit. Reach back…and move forward..! Pray with me: Father, our shortsighted vision - in both directions - causes us to overestimate our role and underestimate that of others. We are but a link in the chain, a runner in Your great relay race. Heaven’s great cloud of witnesses is hoping we grab the baton. We commit to You today that these forefathers of ours will not have run in vain. Cause a force deep in our DNA to respond to this challenge. Like a salmon being drawn by an invisible force back to the place of its birth, may Your eternal purposes arise in our hearts, causing us to reach back, grab hold, and run ahead. We are an eternal company, joined in spirit, united in purpose. Send now another wave of revival, another blast of Your breath, another surge of Kingdom power. Revive us again. We are confident this is coming - we are agreeing with You, not begging You. We are Your family, partners, and friends - not hirelings. Onward, upward, and forward is our determined aim. Your pleasure is our reward. In Christ’s authority, we pray.
