  1. CNN. Broadcasting From The White House While Stealing The Towels - And A Peek At Melania ! Trump's advisor: The accusations leveled against Mustafa al-Kazimi as American-backed, the same as those directed at Adnan al-Zarfi Policy , 04/11/2020 12:00 Baghdad - Iraq today: Gabriel Soma, an American professor and member of the advisory board to President Donald Trump, revealed the White House’s position regarding the assignment of the head of the Iraqi intelligence service, Mustafa al-Kazemi, to form the new government. Soma said that the American administration does not care about the names as much as it is concerned with the governmental work program and the policy that it will follow. He added that the United States will not line up in favor of a candidate merely because he holds his nationality, but rather what matters to the government’s policy and what it will accomplish on the ground, not words. And on the allegations of some that Al-Kazemi is close to the West, especially the United States of America, Sauma said, "The accusations directed against Mustafa Al-Kazemi as American-backed are the same ones that were directed against his predecessor, Adnan Al-Zarfi." Since the overthrow of the former Iraqi regime by US-led international forces in 2003, the Prime Minister of Iraq has been named by consensus between the political blocs with the tacit blessing of the United States and Iran. However, Washington's influence has waned since its withdrawal from Iraq in late 2011 in favor of Iran, which has become the main player on the Iraqi stage due to its close links with the ruling Shiite parties as well as its armed arms in the country. Washington dealt a major blow to the Iranian influence by assassinating the Quds Force commander Qassem Soleimani and the leader of the Iraqi popular crowd Abu Mahdi Al-Muhandis in an air strike near Baghdad airport in January. Parties close to Iran are also facing massive popular protests since last year. The government of Adel Abdul Mahdi was forced to resign early December, and since then the country has been in a political deadlock. Soma pointed out that "the situation in Iraq is very embarrassing, and this is the third attempt by political forces to form a government." He expressed his hope for " On Thursday, Barham Saleh mandated Al-Kazemi to form the government within 30 days, less than an hour after Prime Minister-designate Adnan al-Zorfi announced his apology for this task. The indications suggest that Al-Kazemi’s mission will be easy in light of the support he received from most of the Shi’ite, Sunni, and Kurdish political blocs. And will succeed the new government, the government of Prime Minister Adel Abdul Mahdi, who resigned in early December under pressure from popular protests calling for the departure and accountability of all political class accused of corruption and waste of state funds.
