Iraq and Japan toward signing a "new agreement" Tuesday 24th November 2020 48 Baghdad: Morning Iraq and Japan are moving towards signing a new agreement, which will contribute to increasing the level of cooperation, in light of the great desire of Japanese companies to work and invest in Iraq. The Minister of Planning, Khaled Battal Al-Najm, discussed with the Japanese ambassador to Iraq Suzuki Kotaro and his accompanying delegation, the bilateral relations between the two countries, and the strengthening of joint cooperation in the economic, commercial and investment fields. While the minister stressed the longstanding relations between Iraq and Japan and their importance in serving common interests, indicating that the two countries will soon sign a new agreement to frame cooperation with the Japanese Development Agency (JICA). He pointed out that "this agreement will contribute to increasing the level of cooperation in various fields, calling on Japanese companies to increase the volume of their investments in Iraq, in various developmental sectors, which represent promising investment opportunities, especially in the sectors of housing, energy, transportation, and others." For his part, the Japanese ambassador expressed his country's readiness to increase the volume of cooperation with the Iraqi side in various fields, indicating that his government had provided a lot of support to its Iraqi counterpart in the field of confronting the Covid-19 pandemic. He explained that "the joint cooperation agreement that the two countries will sign soon represents a qualitative leap in deepening and strengthening joint cooperation relations," noting "the great desire of Japanese companies to work and invest in Iraq".
