An unknown fate of the property of the former regime Monday 20 June 2022 237 Baghdad: Omar Abdul Latif Parliamentary committees point to limited access to the truth about the revenues of the former regime's money that belonged to the Ministries of Finance and Foreign Affairs. A member of the Integrity Committee in the House of Representatives, Alia Nassif, says that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is reticent about the size of Iraqi property abroad. Nassif said, in an interview with "Al-Sabah": "Foreign officials refrain from disclosing the fate of property abroad," noting that "the ministry prevents access to the original documents and documents related to these properties, in addition to the ministry's extreme secrecy, and we do not know the reason." . She added, "A part of these properties and farms were transferred in strict secrecy so that there would be no shedding light on it to be an issue of public opinion. As for the other part, it was disposed of, and some of them distribute their investments and imports in agreement with companies belonging to the same parties that keep them secret, while some of them are Prepare to seize it. Nassif indicated that Iraq "owns farms in the United States, Europe, Finland and Argentina, and when I addressed the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, it denied the existence of such properties in one day and closed the file completely," adding that "the Ministry of Commerce acknowledged the existence of these farms and sent accountants periodically to follow up the revenues, but it did not It shows where the revenue is going, and who the companies are acquiring." Al-Sabah was unable to obtain an answer from an official in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on the matter as a result of its refusal to make any statement. A member of the Finance Committee, Jamal Cougar, supported his colleague's statement, indicating that the executive authorities do not open this file without knowing the motives. Cougar explained, in an interview with "Al-Sabah", that "Iraq does not have an accurate statistic of its properties abroad, nor the real values of its resources." He added that "these properties are very large, as most countries in the world have Iraqi properties during the previous regime," noting that "the issue is very important, but there are no real intentions to follow up on Iraqi funds abroad." He alluded to "the executive authorities' repudiation of opening the file of Iraqi properties abroad," noting that "there is ambiguity in this file as a result of the transfer of these properties, or that influential parties in the authority have seized them," he said. The deputy warned that "there are those who do not want this file to be opened, moved, or taken its natural course in the investigation and search for the origins of these properties," as he put it.
