  1. Try the electronic census form on tablets Wednesday 13th January 2021 50 Baghdad: Morning The Executive Department of the General Census of Population and Housing in Iraq intends to test the electronic form of the census expected to be conducted during the current year. The Director General of the Census Executive Department, Samir Khudhair Hadi, said to Al-Sabah: The administration is about to conduct the first two operations related to the census after approving the budget, conducting experiments, purchasing devices and other preparations, indicating that the first process is the completion of the work of geographic information systems, and the completion of special programs experiments By using the electronic form on tablets and sending the data. It is noteworthy that the implementation of the General Population and Housing Census has been postponed to this year due to the Corona pandemic and the financial crisis afflicting the country. The first general census of the population was carried out in 1927, called public registration at the time, and was aimed at setting up records of souls and preparing lists of taxpayers. As for the second census, it was carried out in 1934 in which Iraqis and foreigners were registered, and registration in it was extended to 1935 and followed the method of committees, followed by the third census in 1947. Under it, all residents in cities and suburbs were registered within 12 hours.
  2. Difficulties facing the population census in the areas of Article 140 Iraq 2023/02/28 Sulaymaniyah: Karim Al-Ansari Kurdish observers fear that the population will fuel national and ethnic strife in the disputed areas that are not settled between the federal government and the Kurdistan region, while others put forward several proposals that are limited to economic development data that helps provide a better view of the communities in those areas in terms of service and infrastructure needs. A member of the founding body of the Kurdistan Justice League, Dara Muhammad Amin, believes that “the constitution defined the disputed areas in Article 140, which are the areas with a Kurdish majority and were subject to the policy of Arabization.” He added that “according to Article 140, any population census in those areas must join the process of normalization with The return of the displaced families, including the governorates of Salah al-Din, Kirkuk, a section of Diyala governorate, and a section of Erbil governorate, such as Makhmour," he said. Amin pointed out, in his interview with "Al-Sabah," that "There are disputed parts in these areas, and it seems that the only solution to proceed with the completion of the population census is to delete a paragraph related to national and ethnic identity and to limit the collection of personal and development data,” noting that “any census before normalization in these areas is contrary to the constitution, and it is certain that the population census in Iraq It will include these regions and the region that also needs a general census. Electoral expert Hawary Tawfiq said, "The census is very important, as it is a strategic development project for the state that has many dimensions." Tawfiq explained to "Al-Sabah" that "the process is very difficult for several reasons, the most important of which is the national and ethnic conflict," noting that "the only solution as a way out to accomplish it is to delete the paragraph on national and ethnic identity, and otherwise we will open up new horizons for a conflict not only between the region and the center and the survival of this field." The census will be turned into a referendum and may lead to boycotting the process.” Tawfiq added, “The census will provide official and accurate data related to the region’s population, and thus the controversy over the region’s proportion in the federal budget.” Strategic analyst Kazem Yawar said: "The census was scheduled at the time of the government of Adel Abdul-Mahdi, and after his dismissal, it was transferred to the Al-Kazemi government, which was unable to conduct it, and today we are in the Sudanese government, which must be completed for constitutional necessities." And Yawar continued in his interview with "Al-Sabah". "Talking about the government's inability to conduct a census due to political prohibitions in the disputed areas will not affect its legality in these areas, since this is one of the duties of the federal government in all regions of Iraq," stressing "the country's need for fair budgets based on population distribution percentages." Whether they are disputed areas or not.
