And the media office of the Prime Minister said in a statement that "Nass" received a copy of it, (October 6, 2022), that "Prime Minister Mustafa Al-Kazemi arrived at the Iraqi-Jordanian border, to lay the foundation stone with the Jordanian Prime Minister, Bishr Hani Al-Khasawneh, for a project. The Iraqi-Jordanian electrical interconnection, and the announcement of its launch. Earlier, the Ministry of Electricity signed a contract with the Jordanian Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources to implement a draft agreement to connect the electric grid and sell energy between the two countries, in the presence of a number of officials between the two countries. The Ministry of Electricity said in a statement that “Nass” received a copy of it (July 15, 2021) that “the contract was in the presence of the Undersecretary for Production Affairs (on behalf of the minister) Adel Karim, the Jordanian Minister of Energy Hala Zawati and the Jordanian ambassador in Baghdad, while the contract was signed by the Director General of the General Company for Transport Electricity for the central region of Brak Saad Nour Al-Shamti on the Iraqi side, and the Director General of the National Electricity Company, Amjad Al-Rawashdeh on the Jordanian side. She added, "The contract included providing Jordan to the Iraqi side, in the first phase of the project, with a capacity of (150) megawatts, after completing the interconnection network between the two countries, followed by the second phase, which allows the two sides to raise the capacity of electrical energy exchange." And the undersecretary (on behalf of the minister), - according to the statement, confirmed that "the ministry is interested in establishing this linking line because of its importance in the stability of the national system and the exchange of benefits between neighboring countries, including Iraq, and making it a corridor for the transmission of energy, and that the electrical linkage agreements will enhance Arab economic integration." The statement continued, "Zawati indicated, after the signing, the importance of the (Jordanian-Iraqi) connection in enhancing bilateral cooperation within the framework of Jordan's aspiration to connect with neighboring countries for the purposes of electrical energy exchange, which will contribute to the stability of electrical systems, and that the importance of the contract and its comprehensive strategic objectives for the energy sector is that Iraq be Jordan is a regional center for energy exchange in all its forms, and the Jordanian National Electricity Company will start the project with the executing company at the end of this year, provided that next summer we will reach high productivity, provided that the connection between the two countries is ready.
