  1. You are right. It is not only in Iraq that not everything is as it seems. Since WWII we just play with war, certainly not to win. We get bored with CSPAN and flip the channel. We forgot the reasons we sayed out of WWI & WWII for so long. For the last 65 yrs we start a fight we don't have the guts to finish. If and I say IF the American public could support a president with these opinions, we would not have to fight any more wars. That will not happen any time soon. I HATE WAR, so lets stop this bolony and produce our own oil and alternate energy. I think I could build solar collectors to cover the state of Delaware for one point however many trillion dollars. !! As far as our investment. Just when we thought things were settling down, somebody has to stir the pot.
  2. Thanks harleyharryfl. Shows you how complex all this is. RV will increase spending power of all Iraqis but will hurt domestic industries as imported goods will become cheaper. The domestic economy is what keeps the average Joe's rent paid and food on the table. Personally I believe they will adjust tarriffs on imports to keep domestic business afloat. Chip
  3. Thanks Doc31 As I recall from earlier this year, the IMF expected Iraq to be completely debt free by 2012 with oil projected at that time to reach $80 per barrell in 2011. I believe we saw $80 in the third qtr of 2010. This talk of $100 may be a strain on our economy but a good sign for our investment. Personally I have not bought fuel oil in 3 years. The wood stove may not provide even heat throughout the house but I used to buy an average of 800 gallons each winter. I do drive 400+ miles a week delivering pizza (but they pay me for it) If American appetites change, so will I. We cannot change this world but we try our best to invest where we can protect our little families.
  4. Loki 189, Just chill a little. There are lots of facts here. Too many facts sometimes. Each is relevant to our investment in one way or another. But realize that the most knowledgeable people here are not in the back rooms of IMF, Paris Club, Cental Bank of Iraq, or Iraq's tribal political parties. If you don't mind me borrowing this quote. " (on earth) we see through a glass darkly," We keep watching the big boys so we can be on their coat tails as they walk through the RV door. Keep gathering as much information as you can and then make your own decisions. It could be tomorrow, or when ever. The best part of this site is that Adam refrains predicting dates or rates. I have been here one year, but I still feel like a newbie. That is just because of the complexities of Iraq, the Middle East, and global econimics and politics. If this were easy, everyone would be an expert. Glad to have you here. Chip
  5. This may not be good news but it is VERY relevent. Lets hope the other players shed at least a tiny amount of their self interest and start playing real politics. Chip
  6. [ Or maybe we all ought to do like we did in the 60's and do an, "AlicesRestraunt" thing & ALL call in to the B of A and ask them the SAME question...Can I bring in my Dinars Now??? If we ALL call , it will be a MOVEMENT.] I think we should do one branch per hour on the hour. Of course some things are funny only when you are thinking of doing them.
  7. IMO it's a small risk. But it has happened. Just stay informed.
  8. Thanks Dinars R Us. My grandmother had a little cash during the Great Depression and guess what she did. Yep, she bought bank stock. She was lucky to be born into money but as a woman in that day she had physical control of only a tiny portion of her inheritance. What she did with that little bit made her live comfortable the rest of her life. I think these are the types of investments and the proper thinking that Adam is leading us towards. As Adam said, ...think like the Big Dogs..." Chip
  9. To put things a little in perspective. My mother takes in borders who are foreign graduate students. Recently she had one student from Sri Lanka and another from Bangledesh. Immediately after the infamous bombings and attacks in Mumbai, India, I asked both young men their thoughts and opinions. One statement that suprised me, "You have to understand that in our part of the world, bombings are a normal occurance. Not all bombings have causalties and few are reported in the international news." I remember my saying how much trash was in the London subway as all trash cans were removed to reduce the opportunity for hiding bombs. At the same time, I agree with deenar that this wasteful carnage is a visable sign of instability. I hope we are not focusing too much on what the insurgency wants us to see and not the progress being made in security. Chip
  10. K98knights, Thanks. Since I became a Facebook "Friend" of english.aljazeera.net, I have read many hundreds of reply posts to alJazeera articles that have the same sentiment as this author. Not all feel this way. Some actually support the US efforts. I see this author's voice as from one who hasn't thought for himself or taken responsibility for his country. It's the other guy's fault!! In contrast, I met a Pakastani man last year who immigrated to the US and became a citizen. When he makes his yearly trip to visit family, who are at odds with US foreign policy, he is held responsible. They say to him, "It is your country that is at fault. You are responsible." So to this reporter I say, "Iraq is your your country. It is your responsibility to fix it. No matter who did you right or wrong, it is your responsibility. If you do not step up to the plate, your freedom to express your opinion will be short lived and you will forever be a slave". Chip
  11. Racheal, thanks for the post. Do you mean that Dr. Moors is concerned that the method of killing the well may not be permanant or that we will have many more troubles unless the global oil infastructure is upgraded for greater safety? Chip
