  1. When Maliki came to the U.S., he requested for the sale of the F-16 to be expedited. I posted this because I remember reading a quote of him saying that he will not wait on the U.S. I guess he decided to look else were. http://www.businesskorea.co.kr/article/2439/aircraft-export-iraq-korea-export-24-fa-50-trainer-aircraft-worth-us11-b-iraq Aircraft Export To Iraq Korea to Export 24 FA-50 Trainer Aircraft Worth US$1.1 B. to Iraq 13 DECEMBER 2013 Korea Aerospace Industries (KAI) signed a US$1.1 billion deal to export 24 FA-50 light attackers to Iraq, which is the largest-ever export in the defense industry’s history. KAI unveiled on December 12 (local time) that Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki and KAI Chairman Ha Sung-yong signed a US$1.1 billion contract in the Office of the Prime Minister in Baghdad, Iraq, comprising the export of 24 T-50 aircraft and pilot training over the next 20 years. KAI and the Iraqi government also are set to sign another US$1 billion deal to provide follow-up military support over the next 25 years, which makes the combined export reach a US$2.1 billion value. The FA-50, serving as a light attacker and trainer aircraft, is a variant of the T-50 Golden Eagle supersonic trainer that was co-developed by KAI and Lockheed Martin, replacing the F-5 class aircraft operated by the Korean Air Force. When Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki visited Korea in April 2011, Chairman Ha introduced locally-made aircraft focusing on the T-50 class, and entered formal negotiations with Iraq. Since then, the FA-50 has fiercely competed with the Hawk-128 by British defense contractor BAE Systems, the Yak-130 by Yakovlev of Russia, and the L-159 by Aero Vodochody of the Czech Republic. Korea dispatched its peace and reconstruction army Zaytun Division to Iraq in 2004, building more friendly relations between the two countries, which also helped KAI to win the contract. The Iraqi version of the FA-50, named the T-50 IQ, is armed with air-to-air missiles, air-to-surface missiles, and machine guns, as well as precision-guided bombs, both joint direct-attack munitions and censure-fused weapons. The deal came after Iraq last year signed a new contract to buy its second set of 18 F-16 fighters from Lockeed Martin, part of a deal to purchase 36 of the jets to rebuild its air force. “The T-50 was chosen as a trainer aircraft for fostering pilots of the F-16,” said an official at KAI. With delivery scheduled between 2015 and 2016, the Iraqi air force aims to use the Korean-made aircraft to train its pilots and conduct light attack missions, KAI said. While KAI has sold T-50 variants to Indonesia, Turkey, and Peru, the sales of the FA-50 marks the first time for Korea to export the light attacker overseas. In October, the Philippine government signed a memorandum of understanding for 12 FA-50 fighters worth US$450 million. While a final contract was expected within this year, it has been delayed, as the Southeast Asian nation is grappling with the aftermath of Typhoon Haiyan. KAI is seeking to export the T-50 family of jets to the Philippines, Peru, and Botswana, while eyeing the US Air Force’s T-38 replacement program next year.

YACOUB BAGHDAD (AP) - Iraqi government has signed a $ 1.1 billion deal with a South Korean company to buy 24 multi-role light fighters to boost its defense capabilities. The agreement to buy the T-50IQ aircraft was inked on Thursday during a ceremony held in Baghdad, the government said in a statement. Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki hailed the signing "as a starting point" to improve the performance of the Iraqi security forces in order to defend the country and confront terrorist groups. Korea Aerospace Industries said on its official website that it would support services for the aircraft for 20 years, which could push the total value of the deal to more than $ 2 billion. 3. I agree saradise, the window will never close. The only thing that worries me is how they are going to peg their currency. Today, many of the Industrialized countries have activated a sustainable energy initiative in order to control pollution cost as well as green house gases. Many of these same industrialized nations no longer wants to depend on the Middle East for oil. Do I believe that Iraq is selling oil.....YES, but what I don't believe is that the world markets will allow themselves to depend on Iraq for oil. I believe that huge tariffs have been placed on Iraq. Iraq is such a huge risk, the markets says High Risks come High Returns as well as High Losses. Iraq has no data on the markets concerning scales of economies nor capital investments which are some indications of long-term investment. I hope I'm wrong but until I see some definitive data, I will personally will hang in there until they either divide that country allowing the northern region to receive autonomy and them trading publicly.
  4. This has been going on far too long. I suspect that some multinational firm is purchasing oil from Iraq - pennies on the dollar - and selling to the rest of the world at market prices. Value doesn't necessarily have to come in the form of currency, especially if it's only supported by the good faith of a country. The market has always been volatile but with the financial crisis of the Eurozone and the U.S. (both are global industrial world leaders) to trade oil for clean drinking water (a scarce resource for the Middle East) could be proven more valuable than trading currency. Again, I hate this! It seems and feel like some multinational firm is making money hands-over-fist. There are no reported signs of economic improvements and achievements anywhere. I would speculate that some brilliant firm has singled out this country, thus shutting them down from the global markets and now bleeding them.
  5. I hate this is happening, but many nations with an abundance of nature resources are being used up by industrialized nations in this same manner. Oil IS NOT SUSTAINABLE, and it has high costs to include global warming, medical bills due to pollution and many other abnormalities. All it takes is for a company such as Tesla to continue improving its technology toward goods such as the electrical car and it'll be a done deal for Iraq. These new technologies have already been implemented in 2010 by the European Commission in an energy initiative plan which has goals to reduce more of their carbon footprint from unsustainable resources by 2020 and deeper by 2050.
  6. Unfortunately....I believe them. We already know that they have a very large money supply. This is known as hyperinflation, and this is not good. If no other country is willing to except their currency, and they continue to use USD as their primary means, the value of the Dinar will continue to fall. It doesn't matter if they have all the oil in the world, it they continue to sell it in other foreign currencies or trade oil for other needed things, they will remain a third world country just like many other producing nations. We hardly hear anything about capital investments or any new technology investments. Liquidity or cash-in-hand doesn't provide enough information toward their long-term goals. Economies-of-scale is also important in fulfilling a long-term economic plan. Although Iraq has been officially lifted from UN Chapter VII sanctions, this continues to look and feel like they are being hit with barriers and tariffs through globalization. I believe that is why the North Kurdistan region is cutting deals with the rest of the world. Because if they don't do something, their already established government will crumble just like the rest of Iraq. I speculate that the Northern Region will separate from Iraq to become autonomous very soon, after all....they have most of the oil.
  7. I believe him. It appears that parts of Chapter 7 sanctions were lifted in 2010. (I already know that some would say this wasn't the case.) But back in 2010, I watch as The Vice Pres. Biden along with the UN, voted the lifting, except that Iraq still needed to settle its debts with Kuwait. The UN actually gave Iraq until the end of June 2011 to settle these debts in which it appears didn't happen. I usually don't quote from Wikipedia, but they are getting better with maintain data: "Chapter VII of the United Nations Charter sets out the UN Security Council's powers to maintain peace. It allows the Council to "determine the existence of any threat to the peace, breach of the peace, or act of aggression" and to take military and nonmilitary action to "restore international peace and security". Chapter VII also gives the Military Staff Committee responsibility for strategic coordination of forces placed at the disposal of the UN Security Council. It is made up of the chiefs of staff of the five permanent members of the Council." http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chapter_VII_of_the_United_Nations_Charter "Chapter VI of the United Nations Charter deals with peaceful settlement of disputes. It requires countries with disputes that could lead to war to first of all try to seek solutions through peaceful methods such as "negotiation, enquiry, mediation, conciliation, arbitration , judicial settlement, resort to regional agencies or arrangements, or other peaceful means of their own choice." http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chapter_VI_of_the_United_Nations_Charter I believe that these sanction, "which appeared, to assure that Kuwait be repaid its money from the 1999 Iraq/Kuwait war, also protected Iraq from its creditors!" Chapter VII offered a military option. With Chapter VI, the military option appears to be taken off the table and now they have to resolve their problems just like every other country, UNDER THE WATCHFUL EYE OF THE UNITED NATIONS! Iraq now have to except responsibility for themselves, by themselves.

  12. I agree. YOTA, your post is HUGE news. Thanks for being vigilant in your efforts to find and share information. I will be following more of your findings.
  13. HA, someone on another thread got upset with me because I said I'd agree with Biden concerning the separation of the Kurdish north from the rest of the country. They believe this separation would undermine the holders of the currency. I disagree, the full faith of the GOI and their currency is gone. This is probably why they didn't get an invitation to the conference. Before the new NID the north used the swiss dinar which was valued a little more than IQD, none the least...both were used in their country. I believe the Kurdish north can still salvage the flailing currency simply because of the rumors of the new notes having the Kurdish language being built into them. As of today, the health of the president of the GOI is unknown, the vice-president is on the run from prosecution, the CBI governor is on the run from prosecution, numerous ministry seating still hasn't been filled, many members of parliment walked off the job and a PM whos motives is somewhat questionable. :huh:/>
  14. WOW,....YOTA you are all over it today..... I see right at the top of the article: "Academic vision in the future of the economic system in Iraq D. Appearance of Mohammed Saleh Maes / 2012 http://definitions.uslegal.com/r/rentier-state/ Rentier state means a country that receives substantial amounts of oil or other types of revenues from the outside world on a regular basis. It is independent from its society, unaccountable to its citizens, and autocratic. For instance, the countries such as Iran, the Gulf States, many African states like Nigeria, Gabon with abundant resource wealth are called rentier. A rentier state and rentier economy contributes to a rentier mentality, which adversely affects a country’s economy and long-term prospects. Shababi and the CBI has definitely been unaccountable to its citizens. I've been digging more into this term rentier state, it definitely explains a lot concerning our values as well. I'm simply out done. :huh:/>
  15. Shabibi.....what is this guy thinking?!?! Do these people have running water? Do these people have 24 hours of operating electricity? This guy for 10 years has done absolutely nothing in the contribution of progressing his country. Who cares about IMF achievements when the people have problems getting a clean glass of water. For once, I believe Maliki is justified in his actions. Building reserves is pointless when the people are still lacking the basic essentials. I CAN'T BELIEVE IT, everyone held Shabibi in high regards, as a smart banker and business man. HE'S PLUNDERING AWAY THEIR ECONOMY, ESPECIALLY AT A TIME WHEN THEY HAVE A BALANCED DUE WITH THE IMF IN FEB. WHICH IS LESS THAN 30 DAYS AWAY. SHABIBI LIED AND STEALING.......RENTIER STATE IS STEALING
