Most Gulf markets give preliminary exit - Analyst
staunch replied to moneysoon's topic in ISX (Iraqi Stock Exchange)
Thank you both for that answer. A lot different than the U.S. market. Maybe I will try to poke around and learn a few things about it. Seems like opportunities to be found. -
well, you have to admit, this was a suprise move. Kinda jumbled up the thinking on this. I am glad i don't have any 50's

so, honest question: do iraqi stocks not trade every day the market is open? I know a little about U.S. markets and nothing about the ISX. -

Rates Are On Back Screens...Screens Are Carefully Guarded.
staunch replied to Luigi1's topic in Dinar Rumors
lol, this is original! Back screens...................... -
that was a good read trinity. It seems the most desireable outcome to all of those countries was stability in their exchange rates. lebanon showed a strong increase in their exchange rate and intervened to bring it back down a little to ease inflation. My concern out of all of this is the desired stability that we keep hearing about from the cbi. If they don't revalue before going to a float, their main concern is going to be keeping stability in the exchange rate. That article covered a 10 year period with minimal change except for lebanon, and that was evidently undesired. Trimark, i have heard you say a couple of times that if it's a low float, trillions of dinar will be dumped back into the market. Why do you say that? I don't understand why that would have to happen to have a float?

what's confusing me is: their lowest denomination trading on the streets right now is the 50 dinar note, worth $0.04 to our understanding. (i don't claim to know what it's worth to an iraqi store trader when you buy something and he gives you change for a 10000 dinar note) It is what they use to make change when you buy a pack of gum. How is it going to work if they remove this and the next denomination is double that? It may not seem like a lot, but it adds up. It just seems like unless they replace it with something else, they will have to do a price adjustment to products for sale to stay where they are. What would happen if we removed the penny in the U.S.? would we just accept that everything costs 5 cents more? Gas at the pumps would have to move in 5 cent increments at the pump to keep inline with price fluctuations. It all doesn't make sense to me unless they are going to replace it with something else. and yes, i believe lower denoms and rv makes sense logistically, but what they are doing right now, doesn't
