  10. SOMETHING HUGE JUST HAPPENED AND THE MAINSTREAM MEDIA IS IGNORING IT Posted by Staff on April 07, 2014 You may be aware of Mark Levin's book "The Liberty Amendments" released last year which called for a "Convention of the States". Article 5 of the Constitution gives the several states the ability to convene a convention in which the Constitution may be amended, changed, or even scrapped. Last week Michigan's legislature voted and passed a resolution calling for a Constitutional Convention. They are the 34th state to do so, and this should trigger the Convention of the States. Pretty major, yet the MSM is ignoring it. From TRN News: The most important political development in 200 years was triggered last week, when the state legislature of Michigan became the 34 th state to demand a "Constitutional Convention" in the United States. Under Article 5 of the US Constitution, if 2/3rds of the states call for such a convention, (meaning 34 states) it MUST take place. During such a convention, the ENTIRE Constitution can be changed; nothing is off-limits. This would even allow the States to dismantle the federal government without its consent, and repudiate the debt which that government has incurred! When it voted for the convention last week, Michigan became the 34 th state, thus meeting the requirement. A goal has been reached behind what would be an unprecedented effort to amend the U.S. Constitution, through a little-known provision that gives states rather than Congress the power to initiate changes. This is the most significant political development in the entire world in the last 200 years. At issue is what's known as a "constitutional convention," a scenario tucked into Article V of the U.S. Constitution. At its core, Article V provides two ways for amendments to be proposed. The first – which has been used for all 27 amendment to date – requires two-thirds of both the House and Senate to approve a resolution, before sending it to the states for ratification. The Founding Fathers, though, devised an alternative way which says if two-thirds of state legislatures demand a meeting, Congress “shall call a convention for proposing amendments.” The idea has gained popularity among constitutional scholars in recent years -- but got a big boost last week when Michigan lawmakers endorsed it. Michigan matters, because by some counts it was the 34th state to do so. That makes two-thirds. In the wake of the vote, California Republican Rep. Duncan Hunter pressed House Speaker John Boehner on today to determine whether the states just crossed the threshold for this kind of convention. Like Michigan lawmakers, Hunter's interest in the matter stems from a desire to push a balanced-budget amendment -- something that could be done at a constitutional convention. “Based on several reports and opinions, Michigan is the 34th state to issue such a call and therefore presents the constitutionally-required number of states to begin the process of achieving a balanced budget amendment,” Hunter wrote. “With the recent decision by Michigan lawmakers, it is important that the House – and those of us who support a balanced budget amendment -- determine whether the necessary number of states have acted and the appropriate role of Congress should this be the case." If two-thirds of the states indeed have applied, the ball is presumably in Congress' court to call the convention. But Article V is rather vague, and it's ultimately unclear whether 34 states have technically applied. In the past, states like Oregon, Utah and Arizona have quietly voted to approve the provision in their legislature. But some of the 34 or so have rescinded their requests. Others have rescinded, and then re-applied. Alabama rescinded its request in 1988 but in 2011, lawmakers again applied for a convention related to an amendment requiring that the federal budget be balanced. It was a similar story in Florida in 2010. Louisiana rescinded in 1990 but lawmakers have tried several times, unsuccessfully, to reinstate the application since then. It's unclear whether the applications still count in these scenarios. Some constitutional scholars like Gregory Watson, an analyst in Texas, say once states ask, there may be no take-backs. “There is a disagreement among scholars as to whether a state that has approved an application may later rescind that application,” Watson told The Washington Times. “If it is ultimately adjudicated that a state may not rescind a prior application, then Ohio’s 2013 application for a Balanced Budget Amendment convention would be the 33 rd and Michigan’s 2014 application would be the 34th on that topic.” Others say if a state changes its mind, it can no longer be part of the 34. Even if the requisite number of states have applied, questions remain about how such a convention would work -- and whether, as Michigan wants, such a convention could be limited to only discussing a balanced-budget amendment. It still may be a long shot, but some analysts are warning about the unintended consequences of such a move. In Louisiana, Budget Project Policy Analyst Steve Spire argued against the state's resolution, saying the convention could permanently damage the nation’s political system. What he calls "damage" others call improvement. CHANGES THAT CAN BE MADE Change from a federal form of national government, back to a confederacy, which was what existed prior to adoption of the Constitution in 1789. No, not the one that existed during the Civil War, the one that existed between the time we won the Revolutionary War and the time we adopted the US Constitution. What's that you say, you never knew the United States was a Confederacy before the Constitution? So much for public school education. In fact, the U.S. was a Confederacy and under that form of government, there is NO NATIONAL GOVERNMENT, just states that agree to do business with each other and to defend each other if attacked. How's that for simple? If we make the mistake of keeping a federal government, we could dramatically curtail its powers. All elected officials could be term-limited. Judges could be term limited. The jurisdiction of the federal government could be for commerce only; no longer allowing it criminal prosecution powers, leaving that to the states alone. All Treaties currently in force, could be scrapped. We could cancel our participation in NATO no longer having to assure the safety of Europe by shedding American blood to settle their squabbles. (World War I, World War II, Bosnia, Serbia, Kosovo etc.) Make Europe defend itself. We could scrap the Treaties with South Korea, Taiwan and Japan, making them defend themselves rather than pledging American blood to keep them safe. After all, for the fifty years or more that we have guaranteed the security of these countries, what have they done for us? Hint: Nothing. We could scrap the Treaties with Russia concerning our nuclear arsenal, allowing us to re-arm to face the new challenges posed by China becoming a super-power, India, Pakistan and Israel becoming nuclear powers. We could do away with the federal power to make war; delegating that power to a simple majority of the fifty state legislatures voting in concert. We could do away with the Federal Reserve which creates money out of thin air, causing inflation to erode our savings and earnings, and start printing our own real money, backed by gold, silver, platinum etc. No more central Bankers to parasite off our hard work the way they do now. We could do away with the Code of Federal Regulations and the Federal Register, both of which stifle American ingenuity through reams of government regulation. We could put people ahead of animals and do away with rules that forbid development of land because some little creature lives on it. We could do away with the Department of Education, which during its existence, has seen the education level of American children drop from #1 in the world to somewhere toward the bottom. This department is a complete and total failure and it should be wiped out of existence. We could do away with the Department of Energy, which was created during the Carter Administration for the purpose of weaning the United States off imported oil. Ask yourself this simple question: In the forty years it has been in existence, has the Department of Energy even come close to achieving what it was created to do? No. It is another total failure and it should be wiped out of existence. We could become energy self-sufficient within a year, by allowing our own natural resources to be developed- then tell the Arabs to take their oil and shove it. We could stop the hand-outs to the permanent welfare class, forcing them to get off their good-for-nothing lazy butts and get a job. We could do away with the income tax! We could restore the free market in EVERY industry; getting government out of the way so that entrepreneurs can create new and better products and services to improve all our lives. This would be a new beginning for America; a new chance at vast prosperity, personal liberty and personal responsibility. The last time there was a successful amendment was more than four decades ago – the 26th Amendment which changed the voting age to 18. States ratified the 27th Amendment on congressional pay increases, but it took more than 200 years to do it. With the Michigan vote, this time we can right so many wrongs, and finally get the government out of our lives.

  12. Spring is Coming - May 16, 2014 To: Members of The U.S. House of Representatives Subject: The Benghazi attacks on 9/11/ 2012 The undersigned are a representative group of some 700 retired Military Special Operations professionals who spent the majority of their careers preparing for and executing myriad operations to rescue or recover detained or threatened fellow Americans. In fact, many of us participated in both the Vietnam era POW rescue effort, The Son Tay Raid, as well as Operation Eagle Claw, the failed rescue attempt in April of 1980 in Iran, so we have been at this for many years and have a deep passion for seeking the truth about what happened during the national tragedy in Benghazi. The purpose of this letter is to encourage all members of the US House of Representatives to support H.Res. 36, which will create a House Select Committee on the Terrorist Attack in Benghazi. It is essential that a full accounting of the events of September 11, 2012, be provided and that the American public be fully informed regarding this egregious terrorist attack on US diplomatic personnel and facilities. We owe that truth to the American people and the families of the fallen. It appears that many of the facts and details surrounding the terrorist attack which resulted in four American deaths and an undetermined number of American casualties have not yet been ascertained by previous hearings and inquiries. Additional information is now slowly surfacing in the media, which makes a comprehensive bipartisan inquiry an imperative. Many questions have not been answered thus far. The House Select Committee should address, at a minimum, the following questions: 1. Why was there no military response to the events in Benghazi? a. Were military assets in the region available? If not, why not? b. If so, were they alerted? c. Were assets deployed to any location in preparation for a rescue or recovery attempt? d. Was military assistance requested by the Department of State? If so, what type? e. Were any US Army/Naval/USMC assets available to support the US diplomats in Benghazi during the attack? f. What, if any, recommendations for military action were made by DOD and the US Africa Command? 2. What, if any, non-military assistance was provided during the attack? 3. How many US personnel were injured in Benghazi? 4. Why have the survivors of the attack not been questioned? 5. Where are the survivors? 6. Who was in the White House Situation Room (WHSR) during the entire 8-hour period of the attacks, and was a senior US military officer present? 7. Where were Leon Panetta and General Martin Dempsey during the crisis, and what inputs and recommendations did they make? 8. Where were Tom Donilon, the National Security Advisor, Denis McDonough, his deputy, Valerie Jarrett and John Brennan during the attacks, and what (if any) recommendations or decisions did any of them make? 9. Why were F-16 fighter aircraft based in Aviano, Italy (less than two hours away) never considered a viable option for disruption (if not dispersal) of the attackers until “boots on the ground” (troop support--General Dempsey’s words) arrived? 10. Were any strike aircraft (such as an AC-130 gunship) in the area or possibly overhead that would cause former SEAL Tyrone Woods to laser-designate his attacker’s position and call for gunship fire support, thereby revealing his own location that led to his death? 11. Who gave the order to “STAND DOWN” that was heard repeatedly during the attacks? 12. What threat warnings existed before the attack, and what were the DOD and DOS responses to those warnings? What data (which will reveal exact timelines and command decisions) is contained within the various SITREPS, records, logs, videos and recordings maintained by the myriad of DOD, Intelligence Community and State Department Command Centers that were monitoring the events in Benghazi as they unfolded? 13. Why did the Commander-in Chief and Secretary of State never once check in during the night to find out the status of the crisis situation in Benghazi? 14. What was the nature of Ambassador Stevens’ business in Benghazi at the time of the attack? 15. What guidance has been provided to survivors and family members since the time of the attack, and who issued that guidance? 16. Why are so many agencies now requiring their personnel that were involved in or have access to information regarding the events that took place in Benghazi sign Non-Disclosure Agreements? This was the most severe attack on American diplomatic facilities and personnel since the attacks on the US Embassies in Tanzania and Kenya in 1998. Thus far, it appears that there has been no serious effort to determine critical details of this attack. This is inexcusable and demands immediate attention by the Congress. Congress must show some leadership and provide answers to the public as to what actually occurred in Benghazi. Americans have a right to demand a full accounting on this issue. A longstanding American ethos was breached during the terrorist attack in Benghazi. America failed to provide adequate security to personnel deployed into harm’s way and then failed to respond when they were viciously attacked. Clearly, this is unacceptable and requires accountability. America has always held to the notion that no American will be left behind and that every effort will be made to respond when US personnel are threatened. Given our backgrounds, we are concerned that this sends a very negative message to future military and diplomatic personnel who may be deployed into dangerous environments. That message is that they will be left to their own devices when attacked. That is an unacceptable message. The House Select Committee should focus on getting a detailed account of the events in Benghazi as soon as possible. H. Res. 36 will provide a structure for the conduct of a thorough inquiry of Benghazi and should be convened immediately. We ask that you fulfill your responsibilities to the American people and take appropriate action regarding Benghazi. With over sixty members of the US House of Representatives calling for this Select Committee already, it seems that the time is right to take appropriate action on Benghazi. Signed: Lt Gen Leroy J. 13. Open Letter To Speaker John Boehner: The following letter was sent to Speaker of the House John Boehner. It has been signed by a powerful coalition that has come together to demand a real investigation into what happened on September 11, 2012 in Benghazi, Libya. The Honorable John Boehner Speaker, U.S. House of Representatives The Capitol, H-232 Washington, D.C., 20515 January 6, 2014 Speaker Boehner, We write to express our grave concern over the failure of your House of Representatives to extract the truth from the Obama administration concerning the attack on our diplomatic and intelligence facilities in Benghazi, Libya; and, the brutal deaths of Ambassador Christopher Stephens, U.S. Foreign Service Officer Sean Smith, and security officers Ty Woods and Glen Doherty. To date, five (5) different committees of the House have conducted separate hearings, uncovering information in a piecemeal fashion lacking professional investigators. The five committees’ efforts are disjointed and uncoordinated. The Obama administration has benefited from that dysfunctional process to hide the truth. Hardly any Obama administration witnesses have testified – publicly or privately. You have resisted repeated calls for the creation of a select investigative committee with subpoena authority. It appears that you are satisfied to allow that state of investigative incoherence and ambiguity to continue. The last public hearing by any of the five committees was held in September – four (4) months ago. The families of the dead who fought valiantly to protect the mission and their families, the survivors, and the American people deserve better from you and your Members of Congress. They deserve the truth from their government. Your failure to get the truth and hold public officials accountable increases the possibility of other repeat attacks and additional failures to defend Americans abroad. On Sunday, December 29, 2013, the New York Times published a story concerning the Benghazi attacks that directly contradicts the sworn testimony of witnesses who appeared before various committees. Besides the obvious New York Times editorial and political objectives of inoculating Hillarious Clinton and her 2016 presidential campaign from further criticism of her failures as Secretary of State, the story contradicts objective truth and established facts in a way that confuses the public. Your inaction and failure to lead on the Benghazi investigation directly contributes to the repetition of lies; a lack of accountability from responsible government officials; and the political advancement of persons who seek to continue to “fundamentally transform” the Constitution and our country. The New York Times recent publication proves the Benghazi story is not “going away.” Your oversight of the Department of Justice and Federal Bureau of Investigation has been without any meaningful effect or result. Not a single terrorist in this well-planned and executed military attack by radical Islamists has been apprehended. Ahmed Abu Khattala, a ringleader of the attack, granted long interviews to reporters in Benghazi cafes, while the Obama administration – and you – have done nothing. Nearly 16 months after the terrorist attack, the American public has no accountability and no plan of action from House leadership. The public is subjected to undisputed disinformation from a White House who calls the terror attack a “phony scandal.” While the White House repeats false and misleading information, you continue to ignore claims, documented by Rep. Frank Wolf, of intelligence officers being intimidated with multiple, punitive polygraph examinations and harassing non-disclosure agreement demands. If Benghazi is “phony” why are intelligence officers being threatened not to speak and subjected to polygraph exams? Why do you stand by passively? JOIN SOS TO DEMAND AN END TO THE BOEHNER, WASHINGTON ESTABLISHMENT COVER-UP OF BENGHAZI Some analysts believe your inaction and passivity towards getting to the truth concerning Benghazi is because you were briefed on the intelligence and special operations activities in Libya as a member of the “Super 8.” You may possess “guilty knowledge.” We recall how then-Speaker Nancy Pelosi developed a form of “amnesia” concerning a documented briefing she received on so-called “enhanced interrogation techniques” – later termed “torture” for political purposes. Are you in the same position as your predecessor? Are you dodging a legitimate, thorough, coordinated investigation of Benghazi because it will damage your political position as Speaker? You should be embarrassed that members of Congress, and your own party, are forced to file Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) requests with Obama administration agencies to get basic information about the Benghazi issue. What a sad and pathetic statement about the operations of House standing committees looking into this tragedy that FOIA has become the last resort of even Republican Members seeking the truth. Are you concerned that the scattershot and untimely efforts of the various committees may actually be doing more harm than good at documenting facts? These are all examples of Republican leadership failures. How are you accountable? Rep. Mike Rogers and the Intelligence Committee seem to act as defense counsel for the Obama administration. A recent Intelligence Committee weekly update note stated as fact that no arms shipments were being run from Libya, and that no intelligence officers were being coerced not to speak. There is substantial evidence to the contrary on both counts. Why does Rep. Rogers parrot the discredited falsehoods of the so-called “Accountability Review Board” (ARB)? Conflicting accounts, testimony and evidence need to be investigated – not dismissed or ignored. Don’t those contradictions and questions compel you, on behalf of the American people, to take any action to resolve the matter and get to the truth? Aren’t you concerned that General Carter Ham was suddenly and prematurely recalled from AFRICOM, and then made statements at the Aspen Institute that directly contradicted the Obama administration’s position on the nature of the attack in Benghazi? Why has General Ham not testified publicly before one of the House committees? The New York Times story reports that the CIA was, in fact, collecting weapons in Benghazi. If true, why was the CIA running a separate, parallel weapons program from the State Department’s 40 million dollar collection effort? Where did the CIA-purchased weapons go? Is the Obama administration arming al Qaeda affiliated jihadists in Syria? If you wished, you could have publicly engaged Rep. Devin Nunes concerning his November 6, 2013 letter to you, addressing the nine unanswered questions about Benghazi. Instead, there was thundering silence from your office. You have an opportunity to show strong leadership and resolve a national disgrace perpetrated by specific public officials. You are failing. Your reluctance to lead and resistance to create a Select Committee on Benghazi must end. More than 75% of all House Republicans – with the conspicuous absence of those in leadership or committee chairmen – have cosponsored Rep. Wolf’s Select Committee bill. Few bills in this Congress demonstrate such overwhelming support from Republicans. Additionally, the bill enjoys the support of national security advocacy groups, and the Wall Street Journal editorial board, among many others. We urge you to bring the bill to the floor for a vote immediately to start effective oversight on this critical national security matter immediately. We have waited long enough. Your approach is not working. Mr. Speaker, we call upon you to act now and create a Select Committee on Benghazi to investigate all aspects of the United States involvement in Libya, to include, but not be limited to the attacks of September 11, 2012. It must now also include the protracted cover-up the American people, the families of the fallen and those with loved ones serving overseas have endured. The new committee must have subpoena power, capable staff and Members from both parties who are committed to finding the truth, not playing politics. The Committee must be staffed with new, professional, qualified and experienced investigators. It must have resources to conduct a thorough, comprehensive investigation and issue an exhaustive report before this Congress adjourns. Sincerely, The Undersigned: (Titles for identification purposes only) Charles Woods, Father of Ty Woods Pat Smith, Mother of Sean Smith Michael Ingmire, Musician/Writer, Uncle to Sean Smith and Adm. 14. MarketWatch Puts a Cliched Template on the Gun Industry … and Comes Up Short on Important Facts March 18, 2014 By Larry Keane No Comments When a pre-set story narrative meets formulaic writing, you get the worst of both worlds. The latest example is evident in “10 things the gun industry won’t tell you ,” recently served up by MarketWatch, formerly a property of CBS, but now part of News Corp through its acquisition of the Wall Street Journal, but absent the seasoned editorial judgment that used to be synonymous with that brand. The whole approach is an artifice when applied to anything more than a straightforward customer purchase or client services relationship, far better in concept for “10 things your realtor won’t tell you” for which this approach is usually applied. There’s far too much wrong in this piece to respond to point for point. Besides, the thousand-plus overwhelmingly critical comments posted in response did a good job of identifying the selective use of data and inaccuracies. But for the sake of the record, let us take on four of the things the gun industry supposedly “won’t tell you.” “Owning our product may be hazardous to your health.” The piece reported the gun-control community’s favored aggregate number of “people killed by firearms” without separating suicides and deaths of those involved in criminal activities. And while being dismissive of “gun owners (who) say that having a gun in the house makes them feel safe and empowered to confront threats” the piece, unsurprisingly, did not cite the largely unreported President Obama-ordered Centers for Disease Control (CDC) study issued in June 2013 that found both that armed citizens are less likely to be injured by an attacker and defensive uses of guns are common. “Fear is good for our bottom line” In contrast to what many gun-control advocates do to instill public fear, we take the opposite approach and have pointed out on numerous occasions, using government data. that “crime is down ”. We are not stoking fear, quite the opposite. But we do speak out in support of citizens who seek to exercise their Supreme Court affirmed, Second Amendment right to have a firearm for self-defense. So do the Police Chief of Detroit , the Milwaukee County Sheriff and bulk of law enforcement officials across the country. “Guns get special treatment under the law” While gun-control proponents often tout this argument, firearms are heavily regulated, but like cars, boats and airplanes, it’s not by the Consumer Product Safety Commission. The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) regulates Federal Firearms Licensed (FFL) dealers. All are required to keep meticulous records of all firearms acquired and sold. Federal laws govern how and under what conditions a firearm may be sold. Federal law requires manufacturers to include an indelible serial number on all firearms and keep records of the date of manufacture, type of firearm and to whom it was sent. The ATF routinely traces firearms used in crime by contacting the manufacturer and recreating the chain of distribution. In total, an estimated 20,000 federal, state and local gun laws are on the books. Some of these laws cover individual buyers; some govern what can be made and sold. “We want your kids to play with guns.” This is perhaps the most intelligence-insulting of the “things”. Millions of young Americans are introduced to firearms safely every year through family members, the Boy Scouts and 4-H, and that they go on to enjoy hunting and target shooting with their families and friends for years to come. None of this constitutes “playing with guns.” On behalf of the industry, we developed and have distributed millions of pieces of safety literature and, through Project ChildSafe alone, more than 36 million gun locks. Any accidental death involving firearms is a tragedy, all the the more so when a child is involved. The medical journal article cited, however, suggested alarming numbers of children accidentally injured by firearms when, in actuality, the study mostly tracked violence among young men. The vast majority of the incidents included in the study, 84 percent, involve individuals 15-19 years old. This is anti-gun agenda-driven conflation. During the last decade, the number of unintentional firearm-related fatalities involving children 14 years of age and under has decreased by 49 percent and over the last 20 years by 78 percent. You get the picture. The other six “things” are so contrived, ridiculous, slanted or otherwise previously addressed by the industry that it does not merit more of your time to read about them, but we provide the link at the beginning of this post, if you’re so inclined. After doing so, we expect that MarketWatch will not join your “favorites” list.
