  6. I got this in an email don't know if it is true but it is a good story From A friend on Health Care I was in my neighborhood restaurant this morning and was seated behind a group of jubilant individuals celebrating the successful passing of the health care bill. I could not finish my breakfast. They were a diverse group of several races and both sexes. This is what ensued: I heard the young man exclaim, “Isn’t Obama like Jesus Christ? I mean, after all, he is healing the sick.” The young woman enthusiastically proclaimed, “Yeah, and he does it for free. I cannot believe anyone would think that a free market would work for health care. Another said, ‘The stupid Republicans want us all to starve to death so they can inherit all of the power. Obama should be made a Saint for what he did for those of us less fortunate.” At this, I had more than enough. I arose from my seat, mustering all the restraint I could find, and approached their table. “Please excuse me; may I impose upon you for one moment?” They smiled and welcomed me to the conversation. I stood at the end of their table, smiled as best I could and began an experiment. “I would like to give one of you my house. It will cost you no money and I will pay all of the expenses and taxes for as long as you live there. Anyone interested?” They looked at each other in astonishment. “Why would you do something like that?” asked a young man, “There isn’t anything for free in this world.” They began to laugh at me, as they did not realize this man had just made my point. “I am serious, I will give you my house for free, no money what so ever. Anyone interested?” In unison, a resounding “H*** Yeah” fills the room. “Since there are too many of you, I will have to make a choice as to who receives this money-free bargain.” I noticed an elderly couple was paying attention to the spectacle unfolding before their eyes, the old man shaking his head in apparent disgust. “I tell you what; I will give it to the one of you most willing to obey my rules.” Again, they looked at one another, an expression of bewilderment on their faces. The perky young woman asked, “What are the rules?” “I don’t know. I have not yet defined them. However, it is a free home that I offer you.” They giggled amongst themselves, the youngest of which said, “What an old coot. He must be crazy to give away his home. Go take your meds, old man.” I smiled and leaned into the table a bit further. “I am serious, this is a legitimate offer.” They gaped at me for a moment. “I’ll take it you old fool. Where are the keys?” boasted the youngest among them. “Then I presume you accept ALL of my terms then?” I asked. The elderly couple seemed amused and entertained as they watched from the privacy of their table. “Oh h*** yeah! Where do I sign up?” I took a napkin and wrote, “I give this man my home, without the burden of financial obligation, so long as he accepts and abides by the terms that I shall set forth upon consummation of this transaction.” I signed it and handed it to the young man who eagerly scratched out his signature. “Where are the keys to my new house?” he asked in a mocking tone of voice. All eyes were upon us as I stepped back from the table, pulling the keys from pocket and dangling them before the excited new homeowner. “Now that we have entered into this binding contract, witnessed by all of your friends, I have decided upon the conditions you are obligated to adhere from this point forward. You may only live in the house for one hour a day. You will not use anything inside of the home. You will obey me without question or resistance. I expect complete loyalty and admiration for this gift I bestow upon you. You accept my commands and wishes with enthusiasm, no matter the nature. Your morals and principles shall be as mine. You vote as I do, think as I do and do it with blind faith. These are my terms. Here are your keys.” I reached the keys forward and the young man looked at me dumbfounded. “Are you out of your mind? Who would ever agree to those ridiculous terms?” the young man appeared irritated. “You did when you signed this contract before reading it, understanding it and with the full knowledge that I would provide my conditions only after you committed to the agreement.” Was all I said. The elderly man chuckled as his wife tried to restrain him. I was looking at a now silenced and bewildered group of people. “You can shove that stupid deal up you’re a** old man, I want no part of it” exclaimed the now infuriated young man. “ You have committed to the contract, as witnessed by all of your friends; you cannot get out of the deal unless I agree to it. I do not intend to let you free now that I have you ensnared. I am the power you agreed to. I am the one you blindly and without thought chose to enslave yourself to. In short, I am your Master.” At this, the table of celebrating individuals became a unified group against the unfairness of the deal. After a few moments of unrepeatable comments and slurs, I revealed my true intent. “What I did to you is what this administration and congress did to you with the health care legislation. I easily suckered you in and then revealed the real cost of the bargain. Your folly was in the belief that you can have something you did not earn; that you are entitled to that which you did not earn; that you willingly allowed someone else to think for you. Your failure to research, study and inform yourself permitted reason to escape you. You have entered into a trap from which you cannot flee. Your only chance of freedom is if your new Master gives it to you. A freedom that is given can also be taken away; therefore, it is not freedom. With that, I tore up the napkin and placed it before the astonished young man. “This is the nature of your new health care legislation.” I turned away to leave these few in thought and contemplation and was surprised by applause. The elderly gentleman, who was clearly entertained, shook my hand enthusiastically and said, “Thank you Sir, these kids don’t understand Liberty these days.” He refused to allow me to pay my bill as he said, “You earned this one, it is an honor to pick up the tab.” I shook his hand in thanks, leaving the restaurant somewhat humbled, and sensing a glimmer of hope for my beloved country. Use reason, remember, four boxes keep us free: the soap box, the ballot box, the jury box and the cartridge box.
  7. Divide and concur, I like your thinking and I wouldn't be surprised if that is what they do.
  8. “Fiscal Cliff” put in a much better perspective. Lesson #1: * U.S. Tax revenue: $2,170,000,000,000 * Fed budget: $3,820,000,000,000 * New debt: $ 1,650,000,000,000 * National debt: $14,271,000,000,000 * Recent budget cuts: $ 38,500,000,000 Let's now remove 8 zeros and pretend it's a household budget using the same numbers: * Annual family income: $21,700 * Money the family spent: $38,200 * New debt on the credit card: $16,500 * Outstanding balance on the credit card: $142,710 * Total budget cuts so far: $38.50 Easier to understand ??.......OK now, Lesson #2: Here's another way to look at the Debt Ceiling: Let's say, You come home from work and find there has been a sewer backup in your neighborhood.... and your home has sewage all the way up to your ceilings. What do you think you should do ...... Raise the ceilings, or remove the crap?
  9. <br /><br /><br />I wish that it was a simple as just thinking, but when half of the people get something from the government without having to put anything they don't want it to change.
  10. A LESSON IN ANYLITICS. President Obama ordered the cabinet to cut $100,000,000.00 ($100 million) from the $3,500,000,000,000.00 ($3.5 trillion) federal budget. I 'm so impressed by this sacrifice that I have decided to do the same thing with my personal budget. I spend about $2,000 a month on groceries, household expenses, medicine, utilities, etc., but it's time to get out the budget cutting axe, go through my expenses, and cut back. I 'm going to cut my spending at exactly the same ratio (1/35,000) of my total budget. After doing the math, it looks like instead of spending $2,000 a month, I 'm going to have to cut that number by six cents. Yes, I 'm going to have to get by with $1999.94, but that 's what sacrifice is All about. I 'll just have to do without some things, that are, frankly, luxuries – six cents worth. Did this President actually think no one would do the math? Please send this to everyone on your list so people understand how idiotic a $100 million cut is in a $3.5 trillion budget – ludicrous!!!!!!! "There are two ways to conquer and enslave a nation... One is by sword... The other is by debt." John Adams 1826
  11. While he was sleeping... You're sound asleep when you hear a thump outside your bedroom door. Half-awake, and nearly paralyzed with fear, you hear muffled whispers. At least two people have broken into your house and are moving your way. With your heart pumping, you reach down beside your bed and pick up your shotgun. You rack a shell into the chamber, then inch toward the door and open it. In the darkness, you make out two shadows. One holds something that looks like a crowbar. When the intruder brandishes it as if to strike, you raise the shotgun and fire. The blast knocks both thugs to the floor. One writhes and screams while the second man crawls to the front door and lurches outside. As you pick up the telephone to call police, you know you're in trouble. In your country, most guns were outlawed years before, and the few that are privately owned are so stringently regulated as to make them useless.. Yours was never registered. Police arrive and inform you that the second burglar has died. They arrest you for First Degree Murder and Illegal Possession of a Firearm. When you talk to your attorney, he tells you not to worry: authorities will probably plea the case down to manslaughter. "What kind of sentence will I get?" you ask. "Only ten-to-twelve years," he replies, as if that's nothing. "Behave yourself, and you'll be out in seven." The next day, the shooting is the lead story in the local newspaper. Somehow, you're portrayed as an eccentric vigilante while the two men you shot are represented as choirboys. Their friends and relatives can't find an unkind word to say about them.. Buried deep down in the article, authorities acknowledge that both "victims" have been arrested numerous times. But the next day's headline says it all: "Lovable Rogue Son Didn't Deserve to Die." The thieves have been transformed from career criminals into Robin Hood-type pranksters.. As the days wear on, the story takes wings. The national media picks it up, then the international media. The surviving burglar has become a folk hero. Your attorney says the thief is preparing to sue you, and he'll probably win. The media publishes reports that your home has been burglarized several times in the past and that you've been critical of local police for their lack of effort in apprehending the suspects. After the last break-in, you told your neighbor that you would be prepared next time. The District Attorney uses this to allege that you were lying in wait for the burglars. A few months later, you go to trial. The charges haven't been reduced, as your lawyer had so confidently predicted. When you take the stand, your anger at the injustice of it all works against you.. Prosecutors paint a picture of you as a mean, vengeful man. It doesn't take long for the jury to convict you of all charges. The judge sentences you to life in prison. This case really happened. On August 22, 1999, Tony Martin of Emneth, Norfolk , England , killed one burglar and wounded a second. In April, 2000, he was convicted and is now serving a life term.. How did it become a crime to defend one's own life in the once great British Empire ? It started with the Pistols Act of 1903. This seemingly reasonable law forbade selling pistols to minors or felons and established that handgun sales were to be made only to those who had a license. The Firearms Act of 1920 expanded licensing to include not only handguns but all firearms except shotguns.. Later laws passed in 1953 and 1967 outlawed the carrying of any weapon by private citizens and mandated the registration of all shotguns. Momentum for total handgun confiscation began in earnest after the Hungerford mass shooting in 1987.Michael Ryan, a mentally disturbed man with a Kalashnikov rifle, walked down the streets shooting everyone he saw. When the smoke cleared, 17 people were dead. The British public, already de-sensitized by eighty years of "gun control", demanded even tougher restrictions. (The seizure of all privately owned handguns was the objective even though Ryan used a rifle.) Nine years later, at Dunblane , Scotland , Thomas Hamilton used a semi-automatic weapon to murder 16 children and a teacher at a public school. For many years, the media had portrayed all gun owners as mentally unstable, or worse, criminals. Now the press had a real kook with which to beat up law-abiding gun owners. Day after day, week after week, the media gave up all pretense of objectivity and demanded a total ban on all handguns. The Dunblane Inquiry, a few months later, sealed the fate of the few sidearms still owned by private citizens. During the years in which the British government incrementally took away most gun rights, the notion that a citizen had the right to armed self-defense came to be seen as vigilantism. Authorities refused to grant gun licenses to people who were threatened, claiming that self-defense was no longer considered a reason to own a gun. Citizens who shot burglars or robbers or rapists were charged while the real criminals were released. Indeed, after the Martin shooting, a police spokesman was quoted as saying, "We cannot have people take the law into their own hands." All of Martin's neighbors had been robbed numerous times, and several elderly people were severely injured in beatings by young thugs who had no fear of the consequences. Martin himself, a collector of antiques, had seen most of his collection trashed or stolen by burglars. When the Dunblane Inquiry ended, citizens who owned handguns were given three months to turn them over to local authorities. Being good British subjects, most people obeyed the law. The few who didn't were visited by police and threatened with ten-year prison sentences if they didn't comply. Police later bragged that they'd taken nearly 200,000 handguns from private citizens. How did the authorities know who had handguns? The guns had been registered and licensed. Kind of like cars. Sound familiar? 14. I wouldn't worry to much about it. I know that I have been neg'd before and didn't know why. Glad to have you here.
  15. Well, I am not a troop but I would like to thank you for all your good wishes and hope that everyone back in the states have a wonderful and safe Christmas. Here at Kandahar Airfield last night the Air Force group Top's In Blue arrived and did a show. It was wonderful to see show and all the hard work the the troops put into it so that the guy's on the ground had some Christmas entertainment. Being the young guy that I am I was reminded of the Bob Hope Christmas Shows that I would see as a kid that he would put on for the troops. And I would remember the camera looking over the sea of green suit's and see men with tears in there eye's as they watched the show and were most likely thinking of home and a loved one that they where missing. I may not be wearing a green suit but I was reminded of seeing that as a kid because I was setting there with tears in my eye's thinking of my wife and how I wish that I was with her while I was watching the show. Anyway I digress, Please one and all have a safe Christmas and hug and hold your loved ones tight tonight and on Christmas morning. I have to travel to FOB Fente tomorrow so I will be traveling in country on Christmas(that should be fun) It is now Christmas Eve here in Afghanistan so I will say good bye and have a MERRY CHRISTMAS and please remember that this is not just a time for gifts but a time to celebrate the birth of our lord Jesus Christ and to spend time with our loved ones. MERRY CHRISTMAS Rico1
  16. Sir, with all due respect if you are going to bring news over you might want to fact check it first. I believe that the type of weapon that is mentioned in the article is not the type of weapon that was used. So again the Far left is trying to outlaw something that wasn't used and is trying to link it to this issue any way that they can. And deprive us of our rights to keep and bare arms. we all must remember that the first thing that dictators come for is your guns. It is my opinion that a well armed populace has a responsive government. There is a reason that our forefathers included the right to bare arms.
  17. Patty, May you and your husband have a wonderful Holiday season. I know how you both feel and am happy for you. Regards.
  18. So unless I am misunderstanding you. It is ok for the government to turn on the printing press if they dont have enough money in the Bank. I hope that you don't ask why the dollar is lossing ground to other currencies. My argument is not whether or not it is good or bad - my argument is that that's the way it's always been. Yes and I wake up every morning and hit myself in the head with a 2x4. It's not good for me but I have always done it. And that's the point. You and I can't do that (well we can, but my boss would tell me to go jump), but the government can. The ability to print money and demand taxes is just one reason. Ask king Gorge how that worked out for him. But the biggest reason is that the government is perpetual. Again, not whether it is good or bad, but whether it is reasonable to compare the two. Then why are we having this conversation if you really don't care if it is good or bad? do you just like to argue and stir things up? do you enjoy dissenting just to descent? I am done with this conversation it is hard to talk to some one that hasn't grasp the concept of what is responsible money management practices. And say's that the government doesn't need to follow them because they are the government. Please retake accounting 101.
  19. Yes you are correct, households like myself have a mortgage and credit cards etc. And businesses get loans. But here again the money that I and a successful businesses have coming in will cover the the mortgagee payment and because I and my wife have been watching our spending we have no credit card debt. So we can pay all of our bills and put money IN THE BANK. And a successful business does the same thing. Other wise myself and the business would go bankrupt. The only thing keeping our country from going bankrupt is the printing press. Because most of the money coming in at this time barely covers the interest payment on the debt and the keep rolling it over. Go and get a payday loan and just pay the minimum weekly payment and see what happens to the 100 dollars that you where loaned.
  20. So unless I am misunderstanding you. It is ok for the government to turn on the printing press if they dont have enough money in the Bank. I hope that you don't ask why the dollar is lossing ground to other currencies. Also do you think that the government should be able to just raise your tax's just because they see a shiny new toy in the department store window? How much did you pay in tax's last year? Do you want to pay more just because they cant control there spending and a room full of lawyers are unable to figure out how to put together and pass a balanced budget? And yes I do believe that lawyer is the most common occupation of the House and Senate I would love to tell my boss give me more money because I want a new car. How is it a weak argument to compare my household budget and the governments budget? Last time I check good accounting practices say that if you spend more that you have coming in it is usually not a good thing. So my question to you is why is it good for me not to spend more that I have coming in but not for the government?
  21. I believe that I did. you asked if there was a direct equvilance between the governments budget and a households and I said yes. If the government stopped spending money they don't have just like I have to than we wouldn't be in this mess. What part didn't I answer?
  22. they use a container ship. :lol:src="http://dinarvets.com/forums/public/style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif">;)src="http://dinarvets.com/forums/public/style_emoticons/default/wink.gif"> I can't seem to get my smiley to work.
  23. Yes, If the government had to budget there money like my household does we wouldn't be having this disucion would we.
  24. Why? Obama has been tying everything bad to Bush.
