I like the way you think. I agree with you that iqd has to rv first before the iranian rial. So this will give us more time to buy more rial/toman after iqd rv first.

    Yup. 😎👍🥃

Iran's Rouhani urges Biden to return to nuclear deal

    Wed, January 20, 2021, 10:54 AM

U.S. President-elect Joe Biden, who takes office on Wednesday, has said the United States will rejoin the pact, which includes restrictions on Iran's nuclear work, if Tehran resumes strict compliance. "Today, the ball is in the court of the United States and Washington to return and fulfill its obligations. Trump's political career has ended, but the JCPOA (Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action) is still alive," Rouhani said in a televised cabinet meeting. "All of his efforts to destroy JCPOA were unsuccessful," said Rouhani. Tensions have grown between Tehran and Washington since 2018, when Trump quit the deal between Iran and six world powers that sought to limit Tehran's nuclear program and to prevent it developing atomic weapons. Washington reimposed sanctions that have badly hit Iran's economy.

Iran lays out "road map" for nuclear talks with Biden

Iran has been accumulating bargaining chips and laying out its strategy for engagement with Joe Biden, who arrives in office promising to return the U.S. to the 2015 nuclear deal if Iran returns to compliance.

Why it matters: Recent statements from Iran's leaders indicate that they're willing to strike such a deal. But the sides differ over who will have to make the first move, and when.

Get smarter, faster with the news CEOs, entrepreneurs and top politicians read. Sign up for Axios Newsletters here.

The big picture: Returning to the deal would require Iran to roll back its recent nuclear acceleration and the U.S. to lift sanctions. Biden views that as the baseline from which to negotiate a broader and longer-lasting agreement.

    • Secretary of State designate Tony Blinken reiterated that in his confirmation hearing on Tuesday, but said the incoming administration was "a long way" from returning to the deal.

    • Iran's presidential elections in June will loom large over any timeline.

What's happening: Anticipating negotiations, the Iranians have taken or threatened several steps designed to build leverage, most notably by producing 20% enriched uranium in a clear breach of the deal's terms.

    • Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf, the speaker of Iran's parliament, said this was done "to produce strength in the area of diplomacy." He added that Europe's immediate engagement on the issue showed the strategy was working.

    • Next, Iran informed the International Atomic Energy Agency it intended to start producing uranium metal, which can be used to develop nuclear warheads.

    • Perhaps most ominously, the Iranians are threatening to limit inspectors' access to their nuclear facilities at the beginning of February.

Driving the news: In a speech on Jan. 8, Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei laid out his position, saying Iran doesn’t trust the U.S. and is in no rush.

    • But he added that if Biden lives up to America's commitments, Iran will do the same.

In the ensuing days, a series of very senior Iranian officials — all members of a committee that oversees the nuclear deal — echoed that message in “interviews” published on Khamenei’s official website, in what seemed to be an orchestrated show of unity.

    • The officials were: Qalibaf; Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif; Khamenei advisers Ali Larijani and Ali Akbar Velayati; Atomic Energy Organization chief Ali Akbar Salehi; former Foreign Minister Kamal Kharrazi; and former national security adviser Saeed Jalili.

What they're saying: The officials repeatedly referred to a "road map" of steps both sides should take. It begins with the U.S. lifting sanctions.

    • The officials said they'd treat an announcement from Biden on returning to the deal as meaningless unless it comes with sanctions relief.

    • “If Mr. Biden signs an executive order, we will sign one too. Whenever he puts it into action, we will put ours into action as well," Zarif said.

    • Iran wants sanctions lifted in one comprehensive action and not in a gradual step-by-step process. Larijani, a likely leading presidential candidate, said the U.S. won’t fool Iran with “a piece of candy."

The highest priorities for Iran are the lifting of sanctions on oil exports and the Iranian banking system, as well as the unfreezing of Iranian assets abroad.

    • “We should be able to carry out our economic dealings normally and easily — be that imports or exports," Qalibaf said in one of the interviews.

After both sides return to compliance, Iran said it is ready for further negotiations on a nuclear deal 2.0.

    • As part of these negotiations, Iran will demand compensation for damages it has suffered as a result of Trump's withdrawal.

    • Another condition for future negotiations is the cancellation of the snapback mechanism that allows the U.S. or other parties to the deal to quickly renew UN sanctions on Iran.

    • According to Zarif, Iran will demand that the U.S. take steps to guarantee that a new administration won't unravel the next deal as Trump did the previous one.

What's next: Raz Zimmt, an Iran expert at the Israeli Institute for National Security Studies, says the Iranians won't renegotiate the 2015 deal or return to compliance without sanctions relief.

    • But, he said, they could agree to an interim deal in which the U.S. lifts most of the sanctions in return for Iran rolling back most of its nuclear advancements since 2019.

    • “In any case, Khamenei won’t compromise on the principled positions he laid out because doing that would be like admitting that Trump’s maximum pressure policy worked," Zimmt said.

Now 1 usd=42,000 rial or 1 rial=0.000023 usd. If iran delete 5 zeros, then 1 rial=2.3 usd. Is this possible?

Just my humble opinion, it is slightly possible once US/Iran negotiations will be back on the table and if the sanctions will be lifted.  We will see.  I had bought enough bottles of whiskey too keep me and my hope going, but it's been lonely for me lol 😄😢🥃

  7. Hi guys,

Just my humble and sad opinion, I believe it's gonna' be another while longer now due to Covid since Iran is basically cut-off for any medical supplies and support until the sanctions are lifted.  Who knows what the soon to be Biden administration will be doing once they are in office.  Unless we hear of any new movement/negotiations on the current sanctions placed, we'll continue to be stuck in the current position we're in.  Articles upon articles we tend to see, at the moment I believe it's the world sanctions we need to keep an eye out for.

More whiskey, will be had indeed.  😢🥃

I hope you all are well, and please continue in staying safe.

Im teetering 60/40 to the positive side, with Iraq’s timing. Also with the IMF eliminating 111-countries debt.

For me, just hope for the Dinar to pop immediately behind....that's the sign I'm looking for.  If the Iranian Rial/Toman pops off first, then I'll be triple dipping in buying some more Dinar for sure.  Yup. :cheesehead:

Where do I take my rial when this occurs?  Do I first exchange my rial for toman when this begins and await rate increase,? and in the Middle East somewhere, as the rial/toman is not internationaly recognized in the USA.  Does anyone know a definite exit strategy for this?

Southbeach - as of now, we're not sure...the current "Rial" (notes most we have now) will be just the change of the currency name to "Toman", until when their new currency "Toman" notes will be released, and then the CBI supposedly will allow about two years for the "Rial" notes to be collected in some similar fashion like the Dinar.  Regarding the rate change either cashing out right there and then, or waiting for the rate to increase is a matter of a personal decision but again, we don't know.  With the current state of some travel restrictions now due to COVID-19, we don't know at this point in time of such definite exit strategy that would be best for anyone.  I, personally - if once all this is done and if we become very, very profitable, I had planned to first contact Adam and his team since I'm his OSI group as a member; I see no reason if he and his team decides to change their minds in providing assistance to current OSI members for business reasons that would be great for paying for his future services (as of now, Adam doesn't deal with anything regarding the Iranian Rial/Toman)  second, I had planned to travel outside the US to maybe either The Kish Island where tourism would be more welcoming (hopefully for Americans), Dubai or more possibly, Hong Kong as I have my own personal friends and contacts out there.

Just my opinion, just look into all possible avenues that would best fit your situation given the current state that we all are in.  This could all go down as good, or all could go down as a bust - but Iran is looking like it's about to take its first leap in having their currency recognized before the Dinar.......which we all hope that the Dinar would RV just as soon.  :praying:

    Good luck! :cheesehead:

Sounds like a lop and will the old bills be worthless after the Toman is introduced?

I have no idea, but for now the old bills to my understanding will remain for a bit to be collected within the two year time frame (similar as to the Dinar as planned); it's just the change of the name from "Rial" to "Toman".  I believe once the collection of all the old notes is done, then I guess the new "Toman" notes should be out and about, or probably new notes will be released at the same time while collecting the old Rial notes.  But at this point, I wish for anything to happen.....we hope for the best of course!:praying:

Iran approves plan to cut four zeros from falling currency -report

DUBAI, May 4 (Reuters) - Iran’s parliament has passed a bill allowing the government to slash four zeros from the rial, Iranian state media reported on Monday, after a sharp fall in the value of the currency as a result of crippling U.S. sanctions.

Iran’s national currency will be changed from the rial to the Toman, which is equal to 10,000 rials, under the bill.

“The bill to remove four zeros from the national currency was approved by lawmakers,” Iran’s Students News Agency ISNA reported. The bill needs to be approved by the clerical body that vets legislation before it takes effect.

Iran’s state TV said the Central Bank of Iran will have two years to “pave the ground to change the currency to Toman”.

The idea of removing four zeros has been floated since 2008, but gained strength after 2018, when U.S. President Donald Trump exited Iran’s 2015 nuclear deal and reimposed sanctions, as the rial lost more than 60% of its value.

The Iranian currency was trading at about 156,000 rials per dollar on the unofficial market on Monday, according to foreign exchange websites.

Iran’s weak currency and high inflation have led to sporadic street protests since late 2017. (Writing by Parisa Hafezi; Editing by Alexander Smith)
