Hey 11 Bravo - as a former 11 Charlie I got you covered with indirect - marinated chicken all night, cheddar wursts and burgers thawing, a case of Miller light and a case of Blue Moon in the fridge int he garage, between the neighbors and us over $400 in fireworks siting in a cache. Our TOT is 1700 Hrs Tango (this time is used throughout this OP OORD).
This operation will take place in 3 phases. The first phase will consist of greeting guests, offering beverages and starting the barbacue. Phase 2 will beging with the placing of meat items on the barbacue. Signal for Phase 2 is white smoke and a savory smell. This phase will end when all cooked items have been consumed. Phase 3 will begin just after EENT - approximately 2130 Hrs. there will be a "tactical pause" between Phase 2 and 3, with everyone resting in place and consuming beverages as required. The start of Phase 3 will be signalled by a red, white and blue star cluster. This phase will continue until all pyro is expended, anticipated at approximatelly 2330 Hrs. Followon operations will be given as a FRAGO for remaining personnel at that time.
Commanders intent: Safely celebrate Independence Day, reminding all we contact that this is a country founded on freedom of Religion, freedom of speech and the pursuit of happiness. Congruently, we will be thanking all the defenders of freedom, past and current, remembering that all gave some, but especially remembering the ones who gave all.
So - I've got a grid and a target description - we got us a fire mission! Let's rock and roll!

You must be here in TEXAS. I sucks here right now. I just mowed the yard and changed the oil in the car. After I was done, I peeled my shirt off and put it in the washing machine. Living up north is starting to look really good right now!
It's not much better up north!! I'm in Helena, MT and we hit 94 today. I thought I was going to die today just mowing the yard. My legs look like lobster claws...and their red too!!!
Just not used to this - 3 weeks ago it was mid 50's and raining.

So is today an Iraqi holiday? Or is their work week Sun-Monday? Any known holidays on Monday of this upcoming week?
The Iraqi work week is Sun-Thur. Friday is a holyday for the Muslim religion, so their "weekend" is Friday and Saturday. (And I use the term "work" as a relative term - maybe it should be "Work weak".)

Not being a basher, but just pointing some things out. Things are a little different "over there" and some things you have to look at differently.
As for the public holidays - which includes both national holidays and bank holidays (they are 2 seperate things)... take a look here. http://www.netogram....ys2011/iraq.htm
As far as a large bank reaching it's cap on bandwidth - you have to remember, this is the slower half of the Middle East, and they are still trying to catch up technologically with the rest of the world. They didn't get ATM's and the abiltiy to take credit cards for purchases until early 2009 ( http://abcnews.go.com/International/story?id=6653883&page=1 ). They are a bit behind on things...heck, they are running on an Apache 2.3.6 server with FrontPage addins!. The Geek types out there - and I assume you fit into that - know this is a bit behind in the IT world.

I think people should also take something into consideration.
Arabs, middle easterners are pretty durn lazy. Serving in the Army for 6 years in Iraq/Afghanistan, working there for the past 2 years as a contractor.

Amen to that. I took to calling Iraq "The land of 'Close enough.' " They usually take the day off before the holiday starts (since it starts that night) to prepare for it and of course the holiday itself.

Just some background info on this holiday that everyone is talking about.

The Prophet Muhammad then rides to heaven upon the mythological steed Buraq, the traditional heavenly steed of the prophets.from the rock of the temple mount, where many people believe that the Dome of the Rock sanctuary now stands. I spent a year there, 2004-05, and being a bit of a history buff tried to learn as much as possible about Islam and their traditions form some firsthand sources - our interpreters. Just passing on some info.
Hope this clears some things up in the fact department.

It is rare tofind one willing to devote so much time for no recompense. I for one have ttruly appreciated it. I understand your decision, having seen the level that some on here lower themselves to simply because they do not agree with what it being presented and don't have neither the maturity or manners to agree to disagree, nor the tact or writing skill to make their disagreement known in a civilized manner.

I may be a newb - but I for one appreciate what rLynn and Ben are doing for us. Chasing things to ground is time consuming - and being so far away is tough on a relationship. I was over there in 2004-2005 for the first elections as a National Guard soldier, and my relationship at the time was a victim of the time and the miles apart. AllI can say is bless you for your character and integrity, your in my prayers and I when it happens I hope this RV is as big a blessing for you as I'm sure it will be for me.

UN delegation: Iraq-Kuwait pending issues progressing

UN delegation in Iraq revealed on Sunday that a progress is made in the framework of the endeavors to put an end to the pending files with Kuwait. The delegation said that it would mention this progress in the next report it is to submit to the UNSC which will reveal facts about this file.
UN Secretary-General's Special Representative in Iraq, Ad Melkert told Alsumarianews that many important steps were taken lately in order to end pending issues with Kuwait. In fact, a bilateral committee was formed and it held its first meeting in March 2011 and agreed to hold another meeting this month. “This issue will be mentioned in the report that is to be submitted to the UNSC during the current period”, he uttered.
Melkert said that acknowledging borders with Kuwait constitutes a very important step in order to bring Iraq back to its position in the international community. He also urged Iraq government to take up this step since it is very important for UNSC to get it because it will make it easier for them to reinstate Iraq into the international community.
Melkert called to forget the past problems between Iraq and Kuwait and to make use from the European experience after the World War II. “There is no reason in going back in time. The only reasonable thing to do is to solve problems”, he added.
Holland and Europe in general had a problem with Germany however after 1945 things changed drastically and relations turned out to become friendly and cooperative. “It is possible to change the situation and to activate diplomacy between Iraq and Kuwait in a decade of time”, Melkert said.
United Nations Assistance Mission for Iraq (UNAMI) made it clear that to get Iraq out of the UN’s seventh chapter, Iraq shall acknowledge Kuwait’s border which is a step that Iraq government is still stalling in its regard since it is afraid that such a step would be used to disparage some of the government figures especially that Iraq citizens are not satisfied with the current borders demarcation.
UN delegation to Iraq had said on Wednesday that total normalization between Iraq and Kuwait is about to end and said that the conflict between Baghdad and Kuwait regarding Mubarak port is an issue to be solved between the two countries and stressed on Iraq’s right to navigate in the Arab Gulf according to the international resolution issued in 1993.
It is to be noted that the issue of borders and oil disputes between Iraq and Kuwait started in 1961 when Britain decided to give Kuwait its independence and the former late Premier refused to acknowledge it. At that time, he called to join Kuwait to Basra province. In spite the fact that Iraq government headed by Baath acknowledged Kuwait in 1963. Historians said that at that era Iraq acknowledged Kuwait after a deal in counterpart of getting a sum of money since the government was bankrupt. However, former President Saddam Hussein who is of the same party decided in 2 August 1990 to invade Kuwait because of demarcation problems and conflicts over some oil wells.
In 1993 UNSC issued resolution number 833 stipulating to demarcate borders between Iraq and Kuwait via an international committee. The former regime refused to agree but afterwards accepted in 1994 due to international pressure.
Iraq officials say that the demarcation was forced and Iraq lost by it parts of Safwan and Um Kasr and Iraqi regional water was reduced because of it. However in November 16, 2010 UN Secretary General Ban Ki Moon reminded Iraq that it shall keep its obligations to Kuwait especially resolution 833 in order to get out of UN seventh chapter.

I would guess this means aboslutely nothing. Having spent 11 months and 17 days (but who was counting) in Iraq, I guess someone just didn't update it. One thing I did notice while I was there was a bit of a lack in quality assurance. *lol* I took to calling it "The land of 'Close Enough'."

Good call - especially the Wounded Warrior Program in my opinon. They've helped a number of my buddies. They're already getting some from me - but they're going to get more. Another I would toss out is IAVA - Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans Association. Just my personal opinions.

Maybe it's just me - but at 0.5% - or $5,000 in exchange for a cool $1,000,000 (not forgetting other taxes of course) - tThis basically means just 1 less trip and a little less pizza and beer for me IMO *lol*

I'm a newbie - been lurking here for a while and have a moderate investment in the Dinar. Also an Iraq veteran (OIF 4 - 5), current National Guard soldier and practicing Christian (I say practicing because I hope to one day get it right *lol*) So - " 'nuff said" about my background info.

‘(a) In General- There is hereby imposed a tax on each currency transaction made by, or on behalf of, a United States person.

Exception for Low-Value Transactions-‘(1) IN GENERAL- Subsection (a) shall not apply to any currency transaction made by, or on behalf of, a United States person, if the aggregate value of the currencies acquired by such person in all such transactions made during the calendar year does not exceed $10,000.
‘(2) COORDINATION WITH WITHHOLDING RULES- Subsection (e)(2) shall not apply to any currency transaction unless the value of the currency acquired by the United States person in such transaction exceeds $10,000. The preceding sentence shall not apply if the person who facilitates such currency transaction knows, or has reason to know, that the exception provided by paragraph (1) does not apply to such transaction.

‘(1) IN GENERAL- The amount of the tax imposed under subsection (a) with respect to any currency transaction shall be equal to 0.005 percent of the value of the currency acquired in the transaction.'
To me that looks line an effective tax rate of 0.5% - unless I'm way off on my math ( I've been known to be!)

Wow - after re-reading my OPORD and seeing all the typos and formatting errors, I'm glad AR 25-50 (Preparing and Managing Correspondence, 3 June 2002) states "Writing that is effective and efficient can be understood in a single rapid reading and is generally free of errors in grammar, mechanics, and usage." Generally - gotta love that wiggle room...
