  1. Inquiring minds want to know. Nobody said anything about a massacre. Maybe we should ask the sexually assaulted Branch Davidian survivors what they think.....they are old enough to answer now. I don't care what anybody says, people cannot start their own community in this country without following state and federal laws. It will never happen, and it shouldn't.

    GO RV, then BV

Who said that they would not obey the laws?

  2. Wasn't there something like this in Waco TX sometimes in the 90's?

    Check your history Joe.

Branch Davidian's were a religious cult.

Though perfectly legal to do as they had, this is not the same.

And Dog I think you may be premature in assuming that this would be a "Comune" in the sence that you imply.

We should wait for more details before condemning.

    Indicted Businessman Names Harry Reid

as Alleged Recipient of Massive Bribe

    Jan. 12, 2013 8:02pm Erica Ritz

WASHINGTON, DC – JANUARY 04: Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) rubs his eyes during the counting of the Electorial College votes from the 50 states in the House of Representatives chamber at the U.S. Captiol January 4, 2013 in Washington, DC. (Photo: Getty Images)

A Utah businessman is rocking both state and national politics after claiming Utah Attorney General John Swallow helped him broker a deal with Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid to make a federal investigation into his company quietly disappear, the Salt Lake Tribune reports.

Jeremy Johnson was allegedly told that the price would be $600,000, and claims to have made an initial payment of $250,000 when he was slapped with a federal lawsuit. Now he says he wants his money back.

The Salt Lake Tribune points out that Johnson has no way of knowing whether the funds actually made it to Reid, even if he did make a massive payment to Reid’s alleged intermediary.

The Salt Lake Tribune continues, explaining how the bribe supposedly came to be in 2010:

At the time, Johnson was largely known in Utah as a wealthy philanthropist who spent hundreds of thousands of dollars to ferry supplies into Haiti after the devastating 2010 earthquake.

    [...]

Then, with the FTC investigation continuing, Johnson said Swallow suggested Reid could make problems with regulators go away — for a price.

“I said, ‘OK, what do I need to do?’ He’s like, ‘OK, it costs money,’ ” Johnson said, who claimed Swallow was adamant he make a deal.

“I think he told me, ‘Richard Rawle has a connection with Harry Reid,’ ” Johnson said.

He said Swallow at first wanted $2 million to enlist Reid’s help. But [his company] I Works was no longer profitable and he did not have the money, Johnson said, so they eventually agreed on $300,000 upfront and $300,000 later.

Swallow put Johnson in contact with Rawle, whose company has operations in Nevada…

Rawle, who died of cancer last month, had contributed to Reid’s 2010 re-election bid and later bragged to Johnson that the Nevada Democrat helped him delay new federal payday-loan regulations, Johnson said.

On Sept. 29, 2010, Swallow sent an email to Johnson with the subject line “Mtg. with Harry Reid’s contact.”

“Richard [Rawle] is traveling to LV tomorrow and will be able to contact this person, who he has a very good relationship with. He needs a brief narrative of what is going on and what you want to happen. I don’t know the cost, but it probably won’t be cheap.”

On Oct. 7, Johnson emailed Rawle, insisting there was “rock solid proof” the FTC allegations against I Works were false. “We will do whatever it take to get Senator Reid on our side and hopefully you can help make it happen. Let me know.”

Johnson spent 96 days in jail and has released a number of emails and statements seemingly corroborating parts of his story. However, Swallow insists that Johnson is making “false and defamatory accusations” and that any role he may have played was merely for lobbying purposes.

“There’s nothing wrong with that,” Swallow stated. “As long as I’m not interfering with a government agency as a government official, there’s nothing wrong with me being involved.”

But Johnson told a judge he’s felt guilty about the situation from the start: “The truth is the worst thing I think I’ve done was I paid money knowing it was going to influence Harry Reid…So I’ve felt all along that I’ve committed bribery of some sort there.”

Though the connection to Reid remains unverified, some are remembering how Reid claimed on the Senate floor that Mitt Romney hadn’t paid his taxes for ten years based on far less evidence.

A Las Vegas Review-Journal blog jokes about how Reid might address the situation, if looking in from the outside:

I have a “source” that says that Harry Reid takes bribes all the time. In fact, if you want anything done out of his office, you must come with a suitcase of cash just to get an audience. That’s how he’s gotten so rich on a senator’s salary. He stashes his money in an offshore bank account. And, as a sidebar for Salt Lake church execs, he hasn’t tithed on that bribe money.

Senator Harry Reid’s office has declined to comment.

  4. Vinegar has been around for thousands of years. It has been used in food preservation, medicinal therapies, cleaning solutions around the home, as an insect repellant, and for increasing garden production. It is one of the most versatile--and cheap--natural substances around. In addition, it contains protein, fiber, carbohydrates, calcium, phosphorous, iron, potassium, vitamins A and D, folic acid, zinc, thiamin, riboflavin, niacin, magnesium, and vitamin C, making it unsurpassed in nutritional value as well.

Most of us are familiar with the two basic vinegars in stores today--white distilled and apple cider. However, many more varieties are out there. Every type of vinegar is a little bit different, but all of them offer powerful benefits. Here are just a few that you'll learn about in our free report:

Vinegar has been used to help people store food safely for centuries. Not only can you preserve food through the process of pickling, but it can help you ward off food poisoning and malnutrition as well.

Vinegar is considered by many to be able to attack and kill harmful bacteria which have invaded the digestive tract.

Some doctors suggest regular vinegar be used to prevent food poisoning.

Vinegar has incredible healing properties. It's a natural antibiotic, antiseptic, and antifungal agent.

Vinegar can be used to treat burns.

Because vinegar contains tryptophan, consuming regular quantities of it can help you ward off depression.

Vinegar is just as good at destroying pathogens around your home as bleach.

Vinegar can be an effective insect repellent against ants, fleas, mosquitos, flies, and spiders.

    And so much more...

  5. Patriotic Group To Build

    Armed 'Defensible' Neighborhood Fortress

    By Gregory Gwyn-Williams, Jr.

    January 12, 2013

A group of like-minded patriots, bound together by pride in American exceptionalism, plan on building an armed community to protect their liberty.

The group, named Citadel, intends to purchase 2,000 to 3,000 acres for the project in western Idaho. The community will comprise of 3,500 to 7,000 families of patriotic Americans who "voluntarily choose to live together in accordance with Thomas Jefferson's ideal of Rightful Liberty."

According to the Citadel website, Rightful Liberty means that "neighbors keep their noses out of other neighbors' business, that neighbors live and let live."

Citadel explains that residents in the community will be bound by the following:

    Patriotism

    Pride in American Exceptionalism

Our proud history of Liberty as defined by our Founding Fathers, and

Physical preparedness to survive and prevail in the face of natural catastrophes --such as Hurricanes Sandy or Katrina -- or man-made catastrophes such as a power grid failure or economic collapse

Residents should also agree that being "prepared for the emergencies of life and being proficient with the American icon of Liberty -- the Rifle -- are prudent measures."

Some of the benefits of the Citadel community include a safe, well-prepared, patriotic community where children will be educated in school, not indoctrinated.

The community will be protected by a perimeter wall that will be inaccessible to "tourists." Each neighborhood within the community will have lower walls, dividing the town into defensible sections.

The website has a link to applications where prospective residents can sign up. According to Citadel, more than 200 families have completed applications, even before any land has been purchased.

While Citadel may sound wonderful to many who are reading this, the community has posted a warning on their home page:

"Marxists, Socialists, Liberals and Establishment Republicans will likely find that life in our community is incompatible with their existing ideology and preferred lifestyles."

Citadel says that every patriot selected to live within the community "will voluntarily agree to follow the footsteps of our Founding Fathers by swearing to one another our lives, our fortunes and our Sacred Honor to defend one another and Liberty against all enemies, foreign and domestic."

    Local: Maryland

    Maryland teachers union

    wants nonmembers to pay fee

    January 12, 2013 | 8:00 pm

Maryland's largest teachers union wants school employees who aren't members of a union to pay union fees.

Del. Sheila Hixson, D-Montgomery County, will introduce a bill on behalf of the Maryland State Education Association to require nonunion educators to pay a so-called fair share fee to unions equivalent to about 68 percent of the local dues.

Under Maryland law, local teachers unions are required to negotiate contracts that cover all educators, whether or not they are members of the union. They also must represent nonunion educators in grievances.

Association spokesman Adam Mendelson said the bill wouldn't force people to join the union, just require them to help pay for the union benefits they receive.

"All school employees benefit from those services, but there's not a companion or complementary law for fair share that requires all employees to contribute to those benefits they enjoy," Mendelson said.

Ten local school boards already require nonunion educators to pay union fees: Montgomery, Prince George's, Allegany, Anne Arundel, Baltimore, Calvert, Charles, Garrett and Howard counties, as well as Baltimore City. Those jurisdictions pay the fee to local, state and national unions.

Mendelson said educators who are already covered under a fair share agreement will continue to pay their current fees and would not have to pay twice. He said the fee would amount to less than 1 percent of an educator's salary -- about $20 per paycheck.

The union and its local affiliates represent about 80 percent of Maryland's school staff, or about 70,000 people.

Mendleson said because a large number of jurisdictions already charge fair share fees, fewer than 10 percent of educators would be affected.

The union says the fees would not go toward union political activities.

But opponents say the measure is union bullying to force membership.

"My argument is every professional organization worth its salt earns its dues and earns membership, and the union leadership is imposing a tax on people who want to teach and padding their own pockets," said Sen. David Brinkley, R-Frederick and Carroll counties.

All nonunion state employees and state troopers already have to pay a fair share fee under a 2009 law passed by the General Assembly. The law was pushed by the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees union but did not cover Maryland's teachers.

  7. Sorry Krome if that goes against the direction of your thread, I mean no disrespect. I'm just adding my very limited perspective on the matter, and I'm thankful for all the information you bring here. Again... no judgement here... it's just my perspective and opinion. The best to ya'll. wink.gif

On the contrary Rod, I enjoyed and agree with your dissertation.

And I thought the Walmartions video was funny, but there were times I wanted to vomit. :lol:/>

    The hypocrisy is what's laughable.

Al Gore’s Current TV Rebuffs Advances by TheBlaze,

Agrees to Sell Channel to Al Jazeera

Posted on January 2, 2013 at 5:39pm by Madeleine Morgenstern Print »Email »

Comments (226)TheBlaze’s Jason Howerton and Billy Hallowell contributed to this report.

    AP

Seeking to expand its presence in American television, al-Jazeera, the Qatar-owned news network, has agreed to buy Al Gore’s low-rated Current TV, the Wall Street Journal reports.

Financial terms of the deal weren’t disclosed, but a person familiar with the matter said al-Jazeera paid a few hundred million dollars for Current TV. The network, which was co-founded by Mr. Gore and entrepreneur Joel Hyatt in 2005, has recently been struggling with low ratings.

The multimillion dollar deal came after Current rebuffed TheBlaze when it approached the network about buying the channel last year. According to a source close to the negotiations, officials at TheBlaze were told that “the legacy of who the network goes to is important to us and we are sensitive to networks not aligned with our point of view.”

An executive for TheBlaze confirmed these details on Thursday, noting that the decision not to sell to Beck’s network came only hours after executives reached out to a Current representative to discuss the matter. As reported by the Wall Street Journal, Hyatt said that the decision to go with the Middle Easter outlet came, in part, because, “al-Jazeera was founded with the same goals we had for Current.”

This admission on the part of Current clearly shows that the network aligns itself with al-Jazeera — at least when it comes to goals and aspirations — something critics will likely question. As the AP noted, Dave Marash, a former “Nightline” reporter who worked for the network for a time, left in 2008 after sensing an anti-American bias.

    .

A source close to negotiations also told The New York Times that the deal was probably worth around $500 million, meaning a $100 million pay-day for Gore, who was reportedly eager to complete the deal by Dec. 31 in order to avoid higher tax rates that took effect on Jan. 1.

Unfortunately for Gore, the deal wasn’t signed until Wednesday, however.

    WSJ has more details:

Al-Jazeera, which is owned by the government of Qatar, became famous in the U.S. about a decade ago when its Arabic-language outlet aired videos of Osama bin Laden in the wake of the Sept. 11 attacks. Since then the English-language version of the channel, which is available online in the U.S. and on TV in a few cities, has gained plaudits for its international coverage.

The purchase of Current TV could give al-Jazeera national cable distribution in the U.S., something it has been seeking for years. But al-Jazeera doesn’t plan to replace Current TV with its English-language channel. Instead it will create a new channel, al-Jazeera America, and will “invest significantly” in new programming, Mr. Hyatt wrote in a note to Current TV staff announcing the deal. The channel will be based in New York and expand al-Jazeera’s U.S. staff to more than 300, the company said in an announcement.

Not all cable operators are on board with the change. Time Warner Cable Inc., the second-largest cable operator, said late Wednesday it was dropping Current TV. The network’s owners acknowledged the deal was the reason.

News of the pending deal was first reported by The New York Times. Executives from al-Jazeera and Current did not immediately comment to the New York Times.

Current CEO Joel Hyatt confirmed in October that they were considering selling the 7-year-old network, which has long suffered from poor viewership.

Current’s programming line-up includes Eliot Spitzer, Jennifer Granholm and Joy Behar. Former MSNBC host Keith Olbermann was fired from the channel in March after less than a year.

    Current TV Staffers

Not Happy About Being Sold to Al Jazeera

by Warner Todd Huston 8 Jan 2013 184post a comment

Al Gore may have gotten a multi-million dollar payday from his new friends at Al Jazeera, but his Current TV employees don't seem very excited about being sold to the Qatar-based network.

Current TV employees were called to an early staff meeting in San Francisco and via teleconference at the New York and Los Angeles offices in order to be introduced to their new Al Jazeera bosses.

Ehab Al Shihabi, executive director of Al Jazeera's international operations, and Muftah Al Suwaidan, general manager of the London bureau, were in attendance; so was Al Gore's partner, Joel Hyatt. But Al Gore, Current TV's global warming-pushing star, was nowhere to be seen.

"Of course Al didn’t show up," one staffer grumbled. "He has no credibility."

Gore has been pushing his global warming snake oil for years now and has always done so in the offices of Current TV. But staffers feel Gore is "nothing but a bulls***ter" for having sold his stake in the cable network to some of the biggest oil producers in the world.

Some staffers are reported as having been disgusted by Gore's insistence that the network play up stories about how great Obama's tax hikes were going to be, yet Gore himself made sure to get his monumental payday before all those tax increases went into effect.

Already two of the flailing network's putative "stars" have announced they are leaving their shows. Former Michigan Governor Jennifer Granholm was the first to announce she was leaving. This week it was Eliot Spitzer's turn to announce his departure.

Al Jazeera's top men say that they'll be taking over programming in April. The plan will be to "inform, inspire and entertain."

    Have You Seen

    the Caveman’s ‘Assault Weapon’

    Up for Sale on eBay?

    Jan. 11, 2013 7:05am Jonathon M. Seidl

If you ask anyone who is knowledgeable about guns, they’ll tell you that today’s talk about an “assault” weapons ban is really just a scary-looking weapons ban. The laws, the argument goes, mostly just outlaw guns that look menacing. It seems that line of thinking got one person on eBay thinking: What would so-called “assault” weapons look like back in the time of cavemen?

We seem to have an answer — and it could be yours for $20.51 now $100:*

    ScreenSnapz0211-466x620.jpg

    (Photo: eBay)

“This is your chance to own the most iconic piece of history tried and true of all assault weapons!” the auction’s description says. “This rock is millions of years old and may have been the caveman’s AR15. This is not a modern AR15 or assault weapon, rather this is the caveman’s AR15 (Assault Rock). Again this is a ROCK.

“This item is intended purely for decoration and not intended to be used as a weapon. This is your chance to own a piece of history.”

The auction has nine days left and started out at $0.99. However, you might want to rush to see it: One internet thread claims that a similar auction was taken down by eBay.

No word on if Vice President Biden is expected to include such weapons in his gun control recommendations.

    (H/T: Blaze reader Tim)

    *Update:

The auction price has now risen. We’ll continue updating it throughout the day.

  12. Meet The Corporate Sponsors

    Paying For Obama's Inauguration

    Walter Hickey | Jan. 8, 2013, 10:37 AM

    att-5.jpg

President Barack Obama will be inaugurated for his second term on Jan. 21, an expensive event run and funded by the Presidential Inaugural Committee.

For his second inauguration, Obama has authorized the group preparing for inauguration to accept contributions from corporate sponsors.

Though documents filed with the FEC will eventually reveal the full list of donors and the exact amounts contributed, the 2013 Presidential Inaugural Committee has released a partial list of donors.

Major corporate donors include Microsoft and AT&T.

The only other listed companies are health care company the Centene Corporation, marketer Financial Innovations, Inc, genetic research firm Genentech Inc, Stream Line Circle LLC and investment firm Whittier Trust Company.

Obama's previous inauguration was the largest event to ever take place in the District of Columbia. It was also a lavish affair, costing $170 million that was raised entirely and strictly from individual donors. Obama also banned corporate donations at the Democratic National Convention in Charlotte last September.

The National Father’s Day Council announced today that it has selected President Bill Clinton, Founder of the William J. Clinton Foundation and 42nd President of the United States, as a 2013 “Father of the Year” Award recipient. The awards will be presented at the 72nd Annual Father of the Year Awards in New York City on Tuesday, June 11, 2013.

With proceeds benefitting Save the Children’s U.S. Programs, the awards luncheon will take place at 12:00 p.m. at the Grand Hyatt New York Hotel. For tickets and sponsorship, please contact the Council office at 212-594-5977 or www.momanddadday.com.

President Clinton was elected into the office of President in 1992 and served two consecutive terms (1993 – 2001). Under his leadership, the country enjoyed the strongest economy in a generation and the longest economic expansion in U.S. history, including the creation of more than 22 million jobs.

After leaving the White House, President Clinton established the William J. Clinton Foundation with the mission to improve global health, strengthen economies, promote healthier childhoods, and protect the environment by fostering partnerships among governments, businesses, nongovernmental organizations (NGOs), and private citizens to turn good intentions into measurable results. Today the Foundation has staff and volunteers around the world working to improve lives through several initiatives, including the Clinton Health Access Initiative (formerly the Clinton HIV/AIDS Initiative), which is helping nearly 5 million people living with HIV/AIDS access lifesaving drugs. Since 2005, the Clinton Global Initiative has brought together global leaders to devise and implement innovative solutions to some of the world’s most pressing issues. In the U.S., the Foundation is working to combat the alarming rise in childhood obesity through the Alliance for a Healthier Generation, and is helping individuals and families succeed and small businesses grow.
