  1. I'm no fan of GW, but lets compare apples to apples. The real cost and the ability of the taxpayer to pay for it. Let's talk cost to taxpayers for the vacations. President Bush VS obama with vacations. according to nonpartisan reporting website FactCheck.org President George W. Bush spent 1,020 days during his time as president on vacation (510 days per term – Bush spent 487 days at Camp David, (No additional expense for accommodation’s since it is meant for a presidential retreat location.) 490 days at his Crawford ranch, (owned by President Bush, No need to rent out entire hotels.) and 43 days at his family compound in Kennebunkport, Maine (owned by the President Bush’s family. No need to rent out entire hotels.) The Obama Vacation List -- President’s Day 2012, Michelle and the first daughters in Aspen, Colorado to ski. -- Christmas 2011, the first family in Hawaii for an extended vacation. -- Summer 2011, in Martha’s Vineyard, Mass., for the annual beach break. -- June 2011, the first lady, her mother and daughters traveled to South Africa and Botswana. -- President’s Day 2011, the first lady and first daughters travel to Vail to ski. -- Christmas 2010, in Hawaii. -- August 2010, the first family traveled to Panama City Beach, Fla., for some sun and fun at the beach. -- August 2010, Obama spent the weekend alone in Chicago for his 49th birthday bash. -- August 2010, the first lady and daughter Sasha traveled to Spain for a mother-daughter vacation. -- August 2010, summer vacation again at Martha’s Vineyard. -- July 2010, the first family went to Mount Desert Island, Maine. -- May 2010, the first family had a four-day trip to Chicago. -- March 2010, first lady and daughter spend Spring Break in New York City. -- Christmas 2009, Hawaii again for the annual break. -- August 2009, at Yellowstone National Park and the Grand Canyon for a short vacation. -- August 2009, their first summer vacation as first family at Martha’s Vineyard, Mass. I'm quite sure that the cost in federal taxes for Obama's vacations surpass the costs for Bush's vacations. Not to mention the cost to the states and local governments incurred for each of Obama's vacations. (ie. local security, loss of business due to travel restrictions of locals and visitors, etc) Now, lets look at the economy during each of Bush and Obama. Which had more people out of work? Don't Be Fooled, The Obama Unemployment Rate Is 11% When Barack Obama entered office in January, 2009, the labor force participation rate was 65.7%, meaning nearly two-thirds of working age Americans were working or looking for work. When the recession supposedly officially ended in June, 2009, the labor force participation rate was still 65.7%. The 'No Unemployed Need Apply' Problem Deborah L. Jacobs Deborah L. Jacobs Forbes Staff In the latest, much celebrated, unemployment report, the labor force participation rate had plummeted to 63.7%, the most rapid decline in U.S. history. That means that under President Obama nearly 5 million Americans have fled the workforce in hopeless despair. The trick is that when those 5 million are not counted as in the work force, they are not counted as unemployed either. They may desperately need and want jobs. They may be in poverty, as many undoubtedly are, with America suffering today more people in poverty than in the entire half century the Census Bureau has been counting poverty. But they are not even counted in that 8.3% unemployment rate that Obama and his media cheerleaders were so tirelessly celebrating last week. If they were counted, the unemployment rate today would be a far more realistic 11%, better reflecting the suffering in the real economy under Obamanomics. Just last month, while the Bureau of Labor Statistics reported finding 243,000 new jobs, they also reported in the same release that an additional 1.2 million workers had dropped out of the work force altogether, giving up hope under Obama. If labor force participation had remained the same in January, 2012 just as it was the month before in December, 2011, the unemployment rate would have risen to 8.7% in January rather than supposedly declining to 8.3% as reported. Some additional facts highlight how misleading the reported unemployment rate, and the political rhetoric around it, can be. One year ago, 99 million Americans were unemployed or otherwise not working, and the unemployment rate was 9.1%. Today, while the reported unemployment rate is 8.3%, over 100 million Americans are unemployed or otherwise not working. In January, 2009, 11.6 million Americans were unemployed, with 23% of those unemployed for more than 6 months. By January, 2012, 12.8 million were unemployed, with 43% of those out of work more than 6 months. At the official end of the recession in June, 2009, America was 12.6 million jobs short of full employment. By January, 2012, we were 15.2 million jobs short, falling behind by another 244,000 in that month alone. http://www.forbes.com/sites/peterferrara/2012/02/09/dont-be-fooled-the-obama-unemployment-rate-is-11/ Which had higher cost of living to the taxpayers? 4. Washington Proposes $1 Trillion Bailout for Delinquent Student Loans A possible $1 trillion bailout is coming—and soon. America’s now-nationalized student loan industry just reached a value of $1 trillion, according to Citigroup, growing at a 20 percent-per-year pace. Since President Obama nationalized the industry (a tacked-on provision of the Obamacare bill), tuition has gone up 25 percent and the three-year default rate is at a record 13.4 percent. Ron discussed this problem last night with Larry Kudlow: With many young people unable to pay their loans (average graduating debt is about $29,000), Citigroup and others are speculating that this industry might be ripe for a bailout. To pay off all the current defaults, Citigroup says it would cost taxpayers $74 billion. However, this number doesn’t include those who will default in the coming years, and, when the government rewards the defaulters, it will encourage more borrowers not to pay their debts. And liberals in Congress have proposed forgiving all student loans via “The Student Loan Forgiveness Act 2012,” costing taxpayers $1 trillion. Adding another $1 trillion dollars to the national debt isn’t exactly “forgiveness” for young people—it’s prolonging the payoff. In fact, student loan bailouts are a catch-22 for young people because they’re going to be held accountable for paying off the national debt and interest payments. A student loan bailout will also be rewarding higher education bureaucrats for a diminished product. A college degree used to mean that a person would add on average $1 million to their income over their lifetime. Today a college degree only guarantees an average $300,000 in added income over a lifetime. The answer isn’t a bailout. The student loan industry must to be returned to the private sector. Would a private lender ever invest $100,000 of their money in a student that had no plan? No. It’s not about limiting access to college; it’s about making sure students have a well-thought out plan for their future before investors put a $100,000 stake in their education. College should be about specializing in a trade rather than defaulting to general studies that won’t lead to a job. A civics education is important, but why would an employer hire someone with no applicable work skills, especially in a slow economy? If we wish to end the incentives for bailouts, we need to hit higher education in the purse. Endless government money and bailouts won’t get our students jobs, and it won’t fix the problem. 5. Report: Obama to be in Hawaii as Nation Goes Over the Cliff by Keith Koffler on November 29, 2012, 9:38 am President Obama is reportedly scheduled to be vacationing in Hawaii on January 2, the date billions in spending cuts – and untold consequences for the economy – will kick in if a deal is not reached on the “fiscal cliff.” According to the Hawaii Reporter, residents who live in the area of Oahu where Obama and his family vacation have been told that the usual restrictions on their movements during an Obama stay will be in place for 21 days, from December 17 through January 6. The White House has not officially announced the vacation, and it is unclear if the travel plans are finalized or if the Obamas will be in Hawaii for the entire three-week window covered by the restrictions. An upcoming vacation could provide subtle pressure for Obama to reach a deal, since not getting one might force him to cancel his coveted time in Hawaii. Even though the election is behind him, Obama’s advisers would probably think it too much of a public relations nightmare to have the president luxuriating in paradise while the country embarks on a season of massive pain. In the past, Obama has made sure he got his vacation time in – even extending his scheduled Hawaii sojourn after being forced to delay its start because of negotiations with Congress. What’s more, the Obamas skipped their traditional August trip to ritzy Martha’s Vineyard, an excursion that would have contrasted too severely with a candidate supposedly fighting for the middle class. They presumably are more than eager at this point to get away. The Hawaii Reporter estimates that the total cost of the vacation to Hawaii and federal taxpayers, including funding for travel, staff and protection, is at least $4 million. Obama’s vacations are more expensive than those of previous presidents because of the huge costs to fly Air Foce One and an accompanying cargo plane for nine hours or so to Hawaii. http://www.whitehousedossier.com/2012/11/29/obama-slated-hawaii-cliff/

  8. Let This Viral Picture of an NYPD Cop Giving a Homeless Man Winter Boots Restore Your Faith in Humanity Posted on November 29, 2012 at 8:48am by Liz Klimas Liz Klimas ‘Tis the season of giving, and no time was that more apparent than on a street corner in New York City earlier this month. That’s when a tourist witnessed an NYPD officer giving a homeless man without shoes — and with blistered feed — a pair of winter boots. The photo taken of the scene, unbeknown to the officer at the time, has since gone viral. Facebook Picture of NYPD Officer Lawrence DePrimo Giving a Homeless Man Boots Goes Viral NYPD officer Lawrence DePrimo purchased boots for this homeless man who had blisters on his feet. (Image: NYPD Facebook) The cellphone photo of Officer Lawrence DePrimo, snapped by Jennifer Foster of Florence, Ariz., on Nov. 14, has been made it onto news sites and blogs around the world. The photo posted on the NYPD’s official Facebook page has been liked more than 315,000 times and shared more than 74,000 times. According to the New York Times, as of Wednesday evening it had been viewed by more than 1.6 million people. Here’s how Foster, who is the communications director for the Pinal County Sheriff’s Office in Arizona, set the scene, according to the NYPD’s post: “Right when I was about to approach, one of your officers came up behind him. The officer said, ‘I have these size 12 boots for you, they are all-weather. Let’s put them on and take care of you.’ The officer squatted down on the ground and proceeded to put socks and the new boots on this man. The officer expected NOTHING in return and did not know I was watching. I have been in law enforcement for 17 years. I was never so impressed in my life. I did not get the officer’s name. It is important, I think, for all of us to remember the real reason we are in this line of work. The reminder this officer gave to our profession in his presentation of human kindness has not been lost on myself or any of the Arizona law enforcement officials with whom this story has been shared.” The NYPD stated in its post that the photo had been cropped to better show the scene closer up, given that the original was taken at a further distance. Watch this report about the photograph: The comments on the photo, approaching the 20,000 mark, reflect positive sentiments. Here’s a snapshot of a few of them. Facebook Picture of NYPD Officer Lawrence DePrimo Giving a Homeless Man Boots Goes Viral (Image: NYPD Facebook) The Times reported the 25-year-old officer saying he could see blisters on the man’s feet. DePrimo recalled how he himself was wearing two pairs of socks and still felt cold. He said he started speaking with the homeless man and found out his shoe size. Heading into the Sketchers store, DePrimo purchased the new shoes. But it wasn’t just DePrimo who felt compelled to help out. The Times reported Sketchers’ store manager Jose Cano gave the officer an employee discount for the originally $100 boots. DePrimo’s action is not something he’s likely to forget anytime soon — nor does he want to. According to the Times, the officer has kept the receipt for the shoes in his pocket ever since. It reminds him “that sometimes people have it worse.” (H/T: Daily Mail) http://www.theblaze.com/stories/let-this-viral-picture-of-an-nypd-cop-giving-a-homeless-man-winter-boots-restore-your-faith-in-humanity/
  9. Top doctor's chilling claim: The NHS kills off 130,000 elderly patients every year Professor says doctors use 'death pathway' to euthenasia of the elderly Around 29 per cent of patients that die in hospital are on controversial 'care pathway' Pensioner admitted to hospital given treatment by doctor on weekend shift By Steve Doughty PUBLISHED: 18:08 EST, 19 June 2012 | UPDATED: 07:07 EST, 26 October 2012 Worrying claim: Professor Patrick Pullicino said doctors had turned the use of a controversial ¿death pathway¿ into the equivalent of euthanasia of the elderly NHS doctors are prematurely ending the lives of thousands of elderly hospital patients because they are difficult to manage or to free up beds, a senior consultant claimed yesterday. Professor Patrick Pullicino said doctors had turned the use of a controversial ‘death pathway’ into the equivalent of euthanasia of the elderly. He claimed there was often a lack of clear evidence for initiating the Liverpool Care Pathway, a method of looking after terminally ill patients that is used in hospitals across the country. It is designed to come into force when doctors believe it is impossible for a patient to recover and death is imminent. There are around 450,000 deaths in Britain each year of people who are in hospital or under NHS care. Around 29 per cent – 130,000 – are of patients who were on the LCP. Professor Pullicino claimed that far too often elderly patients who could live longer are placed on the LCP and it had now become an ‘assisted death pathway rather than a care pathway’. He cited ‘pressure on beds and difficulty with nursing confused or difficult-to-manage elderly patients’ as factors. Professor Pullicino revealed he had personally intervened to take a patient off the LCP who went on to be successfully treated. He said this showed that claims they had hours or days left are ‘palpably false’. In the example he revealed a 71-year-old who was admitted to hospital suffering from pneumonia and epilepsy was put on the LCP by a covering doctor on a weekend shift. Professor Pullicino said he had returned to work after a weekend to find the patient unresponsive and his family upset because they had not agreed to place him on the LCP. ‘I removed the patient from the LCP despite significant resistance,’ he said. ‘His seizures came under control and four weeks later he was discharged home to his family,’ he said. Professor Pullicino, a consultant neurologist for East Kent Hospitals and Professor of Clinical Neurosciences at the University of Kent, was speaking to the Royal Society of Medicine in London. Distressing: The professor has claimed an approved technique of looking after the terminally ill is not being used in all hospitals Distressing: The professor has claimed an approved technique of looking after the terminally ill is not being used in all hospitals He said: ‘The lack of evidence for initiating the Liverpool Care Pathway makes it an assisted death pathway rather than a care pathway. ‘Very likely many elderly patients who could live substantially longer are being killed by the LCP. ‘Patients are frequently put on the pathway without a proper analysis of their condition. ‘Predicting death in a time frame of three to four days, or even at any other specific time, is not possible scientifically. This determination in the LCP leads to a self-fulfilling prophecy. The personal views of the physician or other medical team members of perceived quality of life or low likelihood of a good outcome are probably central in putting a patient on the LCP.’ He added: ‘If we accept the Liverpool Care Pathway we accept that euthanasia is part of the standard way of dying as it is now associated with 29 per cent of NHS deaths.’ The LCP was developed in the North West during the 1990s and recommended to hospitals by the National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence in 2004. Medical criticisms of the Liverpool Care Pathway were voiced nearly three years ago. Experts including Peter Millard, emeritus professor of geriatrics at the University of London, and Dr Peter Hargreaves, palliative care consultant at St Luke’s cancer centre in Guildford, Surrey, warned of ‘backdoor euthanasia’ and the risk that economic factors were being brought into the treatment of vulnerable patients. In the example of the 71-year-old, Professor Pullicino revealed he had given the patient another 14 months of life by demanding the man be removed from the LCP. Professor Pullicino said the patient was an Italian who spoke poor English, but was living with a ‘supportive wife and daughter’. He had a history of cerebral haemorrhage and subsequent seizures. Professor Pullicino said: ‘I found him deeply unresponsive on a Monday morning and was told he had been put on the LCP. He was on morphine via a syringe driver.’ He added: ‘I removed the patient from the LCP despite significant resistance.’ The patient’s extra 14 months of life came at considerable cost to the NHS and the taxpayer, Professor Pullicino indicated. He said he needed extensive support with wheelchair, ramps and nursing. After 14 months the patient was admitted to a different hospital with pneumonia and put on the LCP. The man died five hours later. A Department of Health spokesman said: ‘The Liverpool Care Pathway is not euthanasia and we do not recognise these figures. The pathway is recommended by NICE and has overwhelming support from clinicians – at home and abroad – including the Royal College of Physicians. ‘A patient’s condition is monitored at least every four hours and, if a patient improves, they are taken off the Liverpool Care Pathway and given whatever treatments best suit their new needs.’ http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2161869/Top-doctors-chilling-claim-The-NHS-kills-130-000-elderly-patients-year.html
  10. Wake up America. Until now, end of life regime the Liverpool Care Pathway was thought to have involved only elderly and terminally-ill adults. But the Mail can reveal the practice of withdrawing food and fluid by tube is being used on young patients as well as severely disabled newborn babies. Sick children and babies are being discharged from NHS hospitals to die at home or in hospices on controversial 'death pathways' (file photo) Sick children and babies are being discharged from NHS hospitals to die at home or in hospices on controversial 'death pathways' (file photo) One doctor has admitted starving and dehydrating ten babies to death in the neonatal unit of one hospital alone. Writing in a leading medical journal, the physician revealed the process can take an average of ten days during which a baby becomes ‘smaller and shrunken’. The LCP – on which 130,000 elderly and terminally-ill adult patients die each year – is now the subject of an independent inquiry ordered by ministers. The investigation, which will include child patients, will look at whether cash payments to hospitals to hit death pathway targets have influenced doctors’ decisions. Medical critics of the LCP insist it is impossible to say when a patient will die and as a result the LCP death becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy. They say it is a form of euthanasia, used to clear hospital beds and save the NHS money. The practice of withdrawing food and fluid by tube is being used on young patients as well as severely disabled newborn babies The practice of withdrawing food and fluid by tube is being used on young patients as well as severely disabled newborn babies The use of end of life care methods on disabled newborn babies was revealed in the doctors’ bible, the British Medical Journal. Earlier this month, an un-named doctor wrote of the agony of watching the protracted deaths of babies. The doctor described one case of a baby born with ‘a lengthy list of unexpected congenital anomalies’, whose parents agreed to put it on the pathway. The doctor wrote: ‘They wish for their child to die quickly once the feeding and fluids are stopped. They wish for pneumonia. They wish for no suffering. They wish for no visible changes to their precious baby. According to a BMJ article, a doctor had presided over ten such deaths in just one hospital neonatal unit According to a BMJ article, a doctor had presided over ten such deaths in just one hospital neonatal unit ‘Their wishes, however, are not consistent with my experience. Survival is often much longer than most physicians think; reflecting on my previous patients, the median time from withdrawal of hydration to death was ten days. ‘Parents and care teams are unprepared for the sometimes severe changes that they will witness in the child’s physical appearance as severe dehydration ensues. The use of end of life care methods on disabled newborn babies was revealed in the doctors' bible, the British Medical Journal The use of end of life care methods on disabled newborn babies was revealed in the doctors' bible, the British Medical Journal ‘I know, as they cannot, the unique horror of witnessing a child become smaller and shrunken, as the only route out of a life that has become excruciating to the patient or to the parents who love their baby.’ According to the BMJ article, the doctor involved had presided over ten such deaths in just one hospital neonatal unit. In a response to the article, Dr Laura de Rooy, a consultant neonatologist at St George’s Hospital NHS Trust in London writing on the BMJ website, said: ‘It is a huge supposition to think they do not feel hunger or thirst.’ The LCP for children has been developed in the North West, where the LCP itself was pioneered in the 1990s. It involves the discharge to home or to a hospice of children who are given a document detailing their ‘end of life’ care. One seen by the Mail, called ‘Liverpool Pathway for the Dying Child’ is issued by the Royal Liverpool Children’s NHS Trust in conjunction with the flagship children’s hospital Alder Hey. It includes tick boxes, filled out by hospital doctors, on medicines, nutrients and fluids to be stopped. The LCP was devised by the Marie Curie Palliative Care Institute in Liverpool for care of dying adult patients more than a decade ago. It has since been developed, with paediatric staff at Alder Hey Hospital, to cover children. Parents have to agree to their child going on the death pathway, often being told by doctors it is in the child’s ‘best interests’ because their survival is ‘futile’. Bernadette Lloyd, a hospice paediatric nurse, has written to the Cabinet Office and the Department of Health to criticise the use of death pathways for children. '‘I have also seen children die in terrible thirst because fluids are withdrawn from them until they die' She said: ‘The parents feel coerced, at a very traumatic time, into agreeing that this is correct for their child whom they are told by doctors has only has a few days to live. It is very difficult to predict death. I have seen a “reasonable” number of children recover after being taken off the pathway. ‘I have also seen children die in terrible thirst because fluids are withdrawn from them until they die. ‘I witnessed a 14 year-old boy with cancer die with his tongue stuck to the roof of his mouth when doctors refused to give him liquids by tube. His death was agonising for him, and for us nurses to watch. This is euthanasia by the backdoor.’ Alder Hey, pictured, confirmed that children and babies are discharged for LCP end of life care 'after all possible reversible causes for the patient's condition are considered' Alder Hey confirmed that children and babies are discharged for LCP end of life care ‘after all possible reversible causes for the patient’s condition are considered’. ‘There is a care pathway to enable a dying child to be supported by the local medical and nursing teams in the community, in line with the wishes of the child patients, where appropriate, and always their parents or carers.’ Alder Hey said children were not put on the LCP within the hospital itself. Teresa Lynch, of protest group Medical Ethics Alliance, said: ‘There are big questions to be answered about how our sick children are dying.’ A Department of Health spokesman said: ‘End of life care for children must meet the highest professional and clinical standards, and the specific needs of children at the end of their life. 'Staff must always communicate with the patient and the patient’s family, and involve them in all aspects of decision making.’ THEY WISH FOR THEIR BABY TO GO QUICKLY. BUT I KNOW, AS THEY CAN'T, THE UNIQUE HORROR OF WATCHING A CHILD SHRINK AND DIE Here is an abridged version of one doctor's anonymous testimony, published in the BMJ under the heading: 'How it feels to withdraw feeding from newborn babies'. The voice on the other end of the phone describes a newborn baby and a lengthy list of unexpected congenital anomalies. I have a growing sense of dread as I listen. The parents want ‘nothing done’ because they feel that these anomalies are not consistent with a basic human experience. I know that once decisions are made, life support will be withdrawn. Assuming this baby survives, we will be unable to give feed, and the parents will not want us to use artificial means to do so. Regrettably, my predictions are correct. I realise as I go to meet the parents that this will be the tenth child for whom I have cared after a decision has been made to forgo medically provided feeding. A doctor has written a testimony published under the heading: 'How it feels to withdraw feeding from newborn babies' A doctor has written a testimony published under the heading: 'How it feels to withdraw feeding from newborn babies' The mother fidgets in her chair, unable to make eye contact. She dabs at angry tears, stricken. In a soft voice the father begins to tell me about their life, their other children, and their dashed hopes for this child. He speculates that the list of proposed surgeries and treatments are unfair and will leave his baby facing a future too full of uncertainty. Like other parents in this predicament, they are now plagued with a terrible type of wishful thinking that they could never have imagined. They wish for their child to die quickly once the feeding and fluids are stopped. They wish for pneumonia. They wish for no suffering. They wish for no visible changes to their precious baby. Their wishes, however, are not consistent with my experience. Survival is often much longer than most physicians think; reflecting on my previous patients, the median time from withdrawal of hydration to death was ten days. Parents and care teams are unprepared for the sometimes severe changes that they will witness in the child’s physical appearance as severe dehydration ensues. I try to make these matters clear from the outset so that these parents do not make a decision that they will come to regret. I try to prepare them for the coming collective agony that we will undoubtedly share, regardless of their certainty about their decision. I know, as they cannot, the unique horror of witnessing a child become smaller and shrunken, as the only route out of a life that has become excruciating to the patient or to the parents who love their baby. I reflect on how sanitised this experience seems within the literature about making this decision. As a doctor, I struggle with the emotional burden of accompanying the patient and his or her family through this experience, as much as with the philosophical details of it. 'Survival is often much longer than most physicians think; reflecting on my previous patients, the median time from withdrawal of hydration to death was ten days' Debate at the front lines of healthcare about the morality of taking this decision has remained heated, regardless of what ethical and legal guidelines have to offer. The parents come to feel that the disaster of their situation is intolerable; they can no longer bear witness to the slow demise of their child. This increases the burden on the care-givers, without parents at the bedside to direct their child’s care. Despite involvement from the clinical ethics and spiritual care services, the vacuum of direction leads to divisions within the care team. It is draining to be the most responsible physician. Everyone is looking to me to preside over and support this process. I am honest with the nurse when I say it is getting more and more difficult to make my legs walk me on to this unit as the days elapse, that examining the baby is an indescribable mixture of compassion, revulsion, and pain. Some say withdrawing medically provided hydration and nutrition is akin to withdrawing any other form of life support. Maybe, but that is not how it feels. The one thing that helps me a little is the realisation that this process is necessarily difficult. It needs to be. To acknowledge that a child’s prospects are so dire, so limited, that we will not or cannot provide artificial nutrition is self selecting for the rarity of the situations in which parents and care teams would ever consider it. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2240075/Now-sick-babies-death-pathway-Doctors-haunting-testimony-reveals-children-end-life-plan.html#ixzz2DcUKj73D

  14. North Carolina School Orders 6-Year-Old Girl To Remove Word “God” From Poem She Wrote For Veteran’s Day… Someone actually thought this was a good idea. Via Fox News: A North Carolina community is embroiled in controversy after a school ordered a six-year-old girl to remove the word “God” from a poem that she was supposed to read during a Veteran’s Day ceremony. The girl is a first-grader at West Marion Elementary School. She was supposed to read a poem written to honor her two grandfathers who had served during the Vietnam War. “He prayed to God for peace, he prayed to God for strength,” the poem read. A parent reportedly found out about the poem and expressed concern about mentioning the word God during a school event. The parent did not want the Almighty’s name mentioned anywhere in the program, according to one account. We wanted to make sure we were upholding the school district’s responsibility of separation of church and state from the Establishment Clause,” Supt. Gerri Martin told the McDowell News. 15. Faith KS City to Remove Christian Cross From City Seal & Sign Following Atheists’ Legal Threats Posted on November 29, 2012 at 8:58am by Billy Hallowell Citizens in Buhler, Kansas, have a new city seal to look forward to — however, many are less-than-content over the situation surrounding the re-brand. Following the threat of a lawsuit from the Freedom From Religion Foundation (FFRF), an atheist activist non-profit, officials are being forced to redesign the seal and replace a large sign that is currently posted in a local park. The secular group maintains that both contain a Christian cross — an apparently illegal religious element that they say has no place in public venues. The inclusion of the cross has been a part of the design for the past 24 years, since the city last fine-tuned the image in 1988. However, the FFRF didn’t complain until a more recent image was posted in a city park just four months ago. It was this larger sign — one that made the cross even more prominent — that came to the attention of non-theist activists. KSNW-TV has more: In a letter dated Sept. 14, the atheist group, citing an unnamed resident, told officials that the cross violates the Establishment Claus of the Constitution. By default, the FFRF charged that Buhler is endorsing Christianity by allowing the crosses to have such a prominent place on both the seal and sign. “The endorsement of religion in the Buhler seal is particularly egregious because the cross is prominently featured and used to symbolize the ‘Traditional Values’ portion of the town motto,” the organization’s letter read. After consulting with legal experts, the city notified residents this past Friday of its decision to comply with the FFRF’s demands. In addition to opinions that seemed to back the ideals behind the atheist complaint, the city noted that it could end up with massive legal fees if officials allow the case to move forward — something that would strain already limited financial resources. . Mayor Daniel Friesen said that the sign is still up, but that decisions regarding a new design will come over the next few months, as the city attempts to comply with the legal opinions it has received. While he told Fox News’ Todd Starnes that Buhler is a “faith-based community,” the tough decision to comply with the FFRF’s demands was made. Photo Credit: Fox News’ Todd Starnes “I think the people of Buhler are going to be just as frustrated at the Council and myself,” the mayor admitted. “But one of the reasons we’re trying to get this information out is so people can understand the decision we’re making here. We’re not making them lightly.” Friesen also said that the city’s decision is not one that many, including himself, want to make. However, based on legalities and the constitution, he said that officials have made the right choice. “The city of Buhler was founded by immigrants that came here to escape religious persecution,” he added. “The same constitution that brought them here also protects the view of people who may not agree with the values of this community. We have to be acceptant of that.” According to KSNW-TV, new, faith-based signs will be posted on private land in response to the controversy. And the sign that is being removed will purportedly be relocated across the street from its current location, also on private land. http://www.theblaze.com/stories/ks-town-to-remove-christian-cross-from-city-seal-sign-following-ffrf-legal-threats/
  16. ‘Obama in Pee Pee’ posted on November 29, 2012 by Giacomo45 Comments In the past, various people have used offensive artwork to express their disdain for certain things and people. In the name of art, people have walked on the American flag and portrayed it in all kinds of disrespectful images. A number of years ago, I recall seeing a photo of a bulldog pooping on the American flag and the photographer claimed the photo was art. Then earlier this year, artist Michael D’Antuono unveiled his painting titled ‘Truth’. It depicted Obama in front of the presidential seal, arms outstretched and wearing a crown of thorns. There was no doubt that the image was meant to portray Obama as the Savior. Another instance, artist Andres Serrano made headlines with his artistic photo called ‘Piss Christ’. “The photo depicted a small plastic crucifix submerged in a glass of the artist’s own urine. The piece was a winner of the Southeastern Center for Contemporary Art’s ‘Awards in the Visual Arts’ competition, which is sponsored in part by the National Endowment for the Arts, a United States Government agency that offers support and funding for artistic projects.” With so many people committing blasphemy by deifying Barack Obama, one person has decided to create their own piece of artwork that they have titled ‘Obama in Pee Pee.’ The creative work is comprised of an Obama bobblehead immersed in a jar of urine (later revealed to be beer). The artist has placed a price tag of $25,000 on his work. The artist who created ‘Obama in Pee Pee’ is none other than conservative political talk show host Glenn Beck. When Beck revealed his masterpiece on his program, he was wearing an artist’s apron and spoke with a French accent, saying: “I like to call this ‘Flobama,’” “I have been working on a masterpiece. I have been working on something for quite a while. When I say quite a while, I mean all day, small little doses all day. I drank a lot of water when I did this.” Beck actually listed the artwork on eBay and it had reached a bid of $11,000 before eBay removed the listing. eBay deemed the item was offensive and they claim not to allow anything offensive on their site, but that is subject to interpretation. You can find nude photos and movies on eBay and they are offensive to many of us, but evidently not to eBay. I am an artist in my own right. I have sold wood carvings and glass etchings, all done by hand. My glass etchings are unique and I have one piece priced at $5,000. Reading the account of Glenn Beck and his artistic portrayal of Obama, I had different thoughts of how I would I express him artistically. I would not use urine or beer. I would have placed the Obama bobblehead in the bottom of the glass jar and then filled it will manure because I believe he has placed all of us in deep do do. What would I call it? How about ‘Obama’s State of the Union’? Read more: http://godfatherpolitics.com/8310/obama-in-pee-pee/#ixzz2DeBAEiwA I listened to Glenn today, and it's really not pee, but actually colored water. He was trying to make a point, but the libs just didn't get it.

  18. Firing a warning shot, here in Florida, will get you in trouble. Draw your weapon if you feel that life or property are threatened. Shoot to kill if the theat continues. It's better to be judged by 12, than to be carried by 6. Concealed Carry classes should be more about when and where you are legal to carry and to shoot. Your training on weapon use and accuracy should be on going. For any Floridians or snowbirds who spend time here, the best book I have found on the legal system for weapons and firearms is this one.
  19. California Police Wish Gun Owners Would Just Comply with Robbers Posted on: November 28th, 2012 by jlambert If a couple of thugs break into your place of business and point a gun in your face, then you would be perfectly justified in opening fire on them, right? Well, maybe not. San Jose police are giving one gun owner a stern tsk-tsk after she defended her property from a pair of armed thieves. According to ABC Local 7 News, a pair of thieves wearing masks and hooded sweatshirts burst into a San Jose jewelry store at 10:15 a.m. on Monday. At least one of the would-be thieves was armed. The thieves probably thought that they were going to make off with a bag full of bling, but instead they nearly caught a bullet. The store owner, who was reportedly a woman, drew a pistol and leveled it at the two would-be thieves. She fired at least one shot but did not strike either of them – it is unclear whether that was a warning shot or if she simply missed. (KGO) -- In San Jose, a jewelry store owner stopped an armed robber in a bold way. Police say she's lucky things turned out the way they did. Her strategy is not one they recommend. There was a brazen move by two would-be armed robbers, an even more brazen move by an armed jewelry store owner on Story and King roads. It was a stand-off that could have easily ended in tragedy, but didn't. "They pointed guns and made demands for some items within the store," said San Jose Police spokesperson Albert Morales. Police are looking for the two gunmen who entered the small store and pounded on the counter, expecting to make off with watches and jewelry. Instead of getting away, the robbers found a pistol leveled at them, instead. The store owner, reportedly a woman, shot at least one time, and while she didn't hit anyone, the suspects ran outside to make their escape in a waiting SUV. Police admit she had a Constitutional right to protect her property, but wish she had held back instead if of firing. "We don't recommend it. We would have preferred that they just go ahead and comply with the request or demands of the robbers. Again they were after material items that could be replaced and again our biggest fear is that somebody would have gotten hurt, injured and possibly even died," said Morales. The store owners chose to not talk about this on camera and want to keep a low profile. But they did tell me that they have video surveillance inside the store and that it captured everything. The police now indicate that they now have those videos and they're hoping to identify the suspects and make an arrest. http://abclocal.go.com/kgo/story?section=news/local/south_bay&id=8899010
  20. Border crossing operates on honor system, Border Patrol hundreds of miles away Boquillas crossing in Big Bend National Park. Photo credit: National Park Service By: Audrey Hudson 11/28/2012 02:10 PM The Obama administration is set to reopen a crossing station at the Texas and Mexico border that was closed after the September 11 terrorist attack for security concerns, yet is newly constructed to be monitored by Border agents stationed hundreds of miles away. Federal officials estimate the Boquillas crossing located in the Big Bend National Park will accommodate 20,000 visitors a year, whose entry into the U.S. will by monitored by Customs and Border Patrol (CBP) officers 300 miles away in El Paso through surveillance cameras that will observe kiosks where identification cards are scanned for access. “Remote technology would assist CBP in maintaining security and verifying the identity of those entering the United States, while also ensuring that they possess proper documentation to do so,” said the Federal Register notice announcing the project. Documentation required to cross the border include a passport, border-crossing card or permanent resident card. Construction of the new border crossing cost more than $5 million and Border Patrol officials estimate it will cost $200,000 a year to maintain. The station was scheduled to open with little fanfare earlier this spring but was delayed until after the election. Another opening date set for today was also postponed due to a scheduling conflict with President Barack Obama’s cabinet meeting in Washington. A handful of National Park Service employees will be stationed at the remote facility, but when problems arise or someone tries to bypass the crossing station a Border agent patrolling in the 800,000 acre park will be dispatched to the site. The Park Service acknowledges that illegal border crossings and drug smuggling do occur in the sprawling back country. The station was historically popular with tourists, and will only be open during daylight hours to accommodate foot traffic — no bridge crosses the Rio Grande River so the only access to the border is by ferry boat or swimming. http://www.humanevents.com/2012/11/28/mexico-border-crossing-to-operate-on-honor-system-border-patrol-stationed-hundreds-of-miles-away/
