*** Sandy Ingram  After 2 weeks of the sit in of the Al-Sadr supporters at the Iraqi parliament building and in the green zone, Iraq's supreme judicial council said...it lacks the authority to dissolve parliament...under the constitution parliament can only be dissolved by an absolute majority vote in the house following a request by 1/3 of deputies or by the prime minister with the approval of the president...

    :tiphat:

Thanks for bringing this up Ron. This has been on my mind of awhile.

I recollect Abadi passing years ago their version of an EO Executive Order to have the authority to dissolve

Parliament and rule with PM and their version of our cabinet (Deputies) what ever the term is.

This above quote from Sandy seems to contradict that.

    Parliament can only dissolve themselves?🤣

Sounds like as per usual Wacky Iraqi politics

The Sadrist movement, one of the two parties to the conflict, is absent from the meeting (Iraqi News Agency)

Today, Wednesday, the Iraqi capital, Baghdad, launched a meeting called by Prime Minister Mustafa Al-Kazemi, leaders and representatives of the main political forces in the country, to search for a way out of the crisis that has been going on for more than 10 months, in the presence of the UN envoy, Jenin Plaschaert, and the President of the Supreme Judicial Council, Faiq Zeidan.

The "Al-Araby Al-Jadeed" correspondent, who is located in the vicinity of the government palace inside the Green Zone in central Baghdad, said that the meeting will be attended by a number of leaders of the main blocs and parties within the " Coordination Framework " coalition , most notably Nuri al-Maliki, Haider al-Abadi and Ammar al-Hakim, along with leaders and representatives of Arab forces. Sunni and Kurdish, and the complete boycott of the Sadrist movement and other civil forces of the meeting.

The reporter quoted sources from within the closed meeting, saying that among his agenda was the call for calm, stopping street mobilization and media war between political parties, and emphasizing the need to resort to the constitution.

According to the same source, Al-Kazemi warned of the dangers of the continuation of the current crisis on all security, service and economic sectors, with the current caretaker government considered restricted in powers.

Meanwhile, the office of the leader of the Sadrist movement , Muqtada al-Sadr , issued a statement , issued a brief statement in which he said, "The movement, with all its titles, did not participate in the meeting called by the Prime Minister," confirming information obtained by "Al-Araby Al-Jadeed" earlier, regarding his boycott of the meeting.

For his part, Iraqi Foreign Minister Fouad Hussein, who is participating in the meeting in his capacity as a leader in the ruling Kurdistan Democratic Party in Erbil, explained that "the meeting aims to bring about rapprochement between the political parties, and to discuss the initiatives that have been put forward to resolve the political crisis in Iraq. He stressed that" the meeting will not witness It will take any decision, and it will discuss the initiatives that have been put forward to resolve the political crisis.”

Iraqi Prime Minister Mustafa Al-Kazemi is counting on today’s meeting, to persuade the participating forces to abandon the steps of mobilizing the street with demonstrations and counter-demonstrations, and the risk of a possible clash between the two parties, according to the Iraqi political expert Ahmed Al-Nuaimi, who considered that today’s meeting “may be the beginning of other meetings, nothing more.” .

He added to Al-Araby Al-Jadeed, "It is not possible to wait for any decisive results from this meeting, because the UN envoy, Jenin Plasschaert, met with the majority of those present at the meeting in the past days, and failed to achieve the desired calm, but entering into the atmosphere of joint meetings is important in itself, after a rupture It lasted several months during this crisis."

And yesterday, Tuesday, Al-Kazemi called, in a statement, "the leaders of the national political forces to a meeting at the government palace (today, Wednesday), to start a serious national dialogue and joint thinking, in order to find solutions to the current political crisis."

Al-Kazemi called on "the national parties to stop the popular and media escalation, and to give enough space for moderate proposals, to take their place in the national debate."

Concern in the Iraqi street is compounded by the continuation of the longest political crisis in the country since the US invasion of Iraq in 2003, after militias and armed groups allied to Iran entered the crisis line, aligning with the forces of the "coordinating framework" against the Sadrist movement led by Muqtada al-Sadr, which led the last elections that were held On the tenth of October last year.

Al -Sadr announced the withdrawal of his deputies from Parliament after what he described as the “coordinating framework” forces’ wrapping up of the project of the national majority government, and their insistence on a new consensual government based on sectarian and partisan quotas, which Al-Sadr sees as a major reason for the continuation of corruption and the deterioration of services in the country.

The article was written by Mohammed Ali.

Hopefully they will embrace his strategy.

Shafaq News/ A close associate of the leader of the Sadrist movement, Saleh Muhammad al-Iraqi, nicknamed "Minister of the Leader", called on Tuesday, the supporters of the Sadrist movement sit-in inside the Iraqi parliament building to evacuate it, announcing the start of forming a committee to manage protests.

Al-Iraqi said in a tweet on Twitter, followed by Shafak News Agency, "After the parliament was liberated and turned into a parliament for the people, thanks to God Almighty and the efforts of the heroic revolutionaries, the following has been decided."

He added, "Evacuation of the parliament building and the transformation of the sit-in in and around Parliament and its approaches within a maximum period of 72 hours from the date of this publication."

He continued, "If there are other places in front of which you should sit, instructions will come to you accordingly," stressing that "the permanence of the sit-in is very important to achieve your demands, which we will provide you with later, so the sit-in must be organized in the form of meals with the momentum of the numbers remaining at specific times."

Al-Iraqi pointed out that "the unified Friday prayers for the combined prayers of Baghdad, Babylon, Kut, Karbala and Najaf will be held in the celebration square at the end of this week."

He concluded by saying, "We are in the process of forming a committee by the protesters to manage and organize the protests and take care of everything necessary."

Since last Saturday morning, the Sadrist movement's demonstrators stormed the fortified Green Zone in the capital, Baghdad, and the Iraqi parliament, and announced from there an open sit-in in protest against the candidate of the coordination framework to head the new government, Muhammad Shiaa al-Sudani, and demanded that the leader of the Sadrist movement, Muqtada al-Sadr, take over the formation of the government.
