New Iraq Oil Prices for March Posted on 11 February 2011. Tags: oil prices, SOMO, State Oil Marketing Organization Iraq’s State Oil Marketing Organisation (SOMO) has adjusted its official selling prices for its Basra Light and Kirkuk crude grades for March. In common with some other countries, Iraq’s oil is priced relative to regional benchmark prices: For shipments to US, contracts are priced are relative to the Argus Sour Crude Index (ASCI); Shipments to Europe are priced relative the North Sea Spot BFOE; and Asian shipmentas are priced relative to the Dubai-Oman crude benchmark, published by Platts, the energy-information division of McGraw-Hill. The new prices to Europe are as follows: Kirkuk crude to Europe will sell at a discount of $3.25 a barrel relative to the North Sea (Dated Brent) benchmark, a drop of $1.20; Basra Light to Europe will sell at a discount of $4.60 a barrel to Dated Brent, also a drop of $1.20. And to the US: Basrah Light will sell at a $1.35 discount to the U.S. benchmark for a second month; Kirkuk will sell at a premium of 40 cents above the benchmark, an increase of 10 cents. Japan’s JOGMEC to invest in Gharraf Oilfield Posted on 11 February 2011. Tags: Garraf, Gharaf, Gharraf, Japan, Japan Oil Gas and Metals National Corp, Japan Petroleum Exploration, Japex, JOGMEC, Petronas Reuters reports that the state-run Japan Oil, Gas and Metals National Corp (JOGMEC)said on Thursday it expects to provide about 16.3 billion yen ($198 million) of capital in 2011-2012 to Iraq’s Gharaf [Gharraf, Garraf] oilfield development project. In return, JOGMEC said it would take a stake of less than 50 percent in Japan Petroleum Exploration’s (Japex) wholly owned subsidiary that is taking part in the project. Malaysia’s state oil firm Petronas holds 45 percent of the oilfield development and production service project,Japex 30 percent, and Iraq 25 percent. The consortium, which expects to invest up to $8 billion, expects oil production to start in 2012 at 50,000 barrels per day, rising to 230,000 bpd of plateau output from 2016. In a statement, JOGMEC said: “It is expected that this project will contribute to strengthen and deepen a relationship with Iraq, as well as reinforce Japan’s energy security”.
