  1. This is encouraging news. While I think BondLady desreves the credit for originally uncovering this, it's OK by me to get it from another source also. AND it makes perfect sense. If Mailman's numbers are correct then the end should be VERY near. Let's hope so. GO RV!
  2. So they're going to pump MORE money into the economy and that will help REDUCE inflation? Hmmmmm. . .
  3. It will be interesting, to say the least, to see if the Obama administration pursues the same strategy in Afghanistan as it has in Iraq. IMO, it can only be characterized as "cut and run." It may get him re-elected, but to what end? Given the terms of the original agreement struck between the US and the oil producing nations during the Nixon administration, we are rapidly approching a point where, if we abrogate those security agreements, there will be no incentive for other nations to continue to buy oil with Petrodollars. If that indeed occurs, and the USD ceases to be the world's reserve currency, the collapse of the dollar, and our economy along with it, will become a self fulfilling prophecy.
  4. This one brought tears to my eyes. Please share; what a great story for Christmas! http://my.earthlink.net/article/top?guid=20111223/5051ec75-e18b-4502-81ed-ae85408d3237

  6. musky, speaking as a veteran who always respected the uniform I wore, I would expect someone who displays a badge as part of his icon to interact with others in a manner more in keeping with the office I represent. Or am I asking too much?
  7. The Optimist Creed, by Christian D. Larson I promise myself: To be so strong that nothing can disturb my peace of mind. To talk health, happiness, & prosperity to every person I meet. To make all my friends feel that there is something worthwhile in them. To look at the sunny side of everything & make my optimism come true. To think only of the best, to work only for the best, & to expect only the best. To be just as enthusiastic about the success of others as I am about my own. To forget the mistakes of the past and press on to the greater achievements of the future. To wear a cheerful expression at all times & give a smile to every living creature I meet. To give so much time to improving myself that I have no time to criticize others. To be too large for worry, too noble for anger, too strong for fear, & too happy to permit the presence of trouble. To think well of myself & to proclaim this fact to the world, not in loud word, but in great deeds. To live in the faith that the whole world is on my side, so long as I am true to the best that is in me. Now go out and and spread some positivity.
  8. Great post, knights. I think Petraus' involvement is crucial for getting to the truth. The Sunni leadership may have marginalized themselves by these actions. This may very well result in a majority (Shiite) government. It remains to be seen whether that's a good thing, especially since it would be led by Ma-leak-ee.
  9. This situation clearly demonstrates how far the ME needs to come to catch up to the rest of the planet, in terms of civilized behavior. They might as well be Cro-Magnons tossing stones at each other for the exclusive right to use a stream. That's how little progress they have made over the centuries. JMO.
  10. I bought my last IQD a year ago next month. They have sat in a filing cabinet ever since. That's where they'll stay until the IQD increases in value. I think they call that an investment mindset.
  11. Here's the link to the instruction sheet for California's income tax return: https://www.ftb.ca.gov/forms/2011/11_540a_540ins.pdf I don't see anything referring to the Dinar, do you? 'Nuff said!
  12. Bottom line: DON'T, under any circumstances, buy more Dinar off of this "intel." Total Bravo Sierra.
  13. Thanks Sara. This article is important in that it highlights the predominating detrimental influence in the ME: tribalism. That is what is causing the current unrest and division in Iraq, and that is what is holding the entire area back from moving forward societally and economically. The tools and trappings have changed and been updated over the centuries, but the mindset is the same as their ancient ancestors, whose tribes threw stones at one another for the exclusive right to drink at a stream.
  14. To Whom It May Concern (And I Suspect You Know Who You Are!): I've been on this forum now for over a year, and I've closely watched the arguments, pro and con, regarding a Redenomination. However, I've been disappointed that the camp that apparently believes a pre-RV RD is inevitable always seems to rely on only two things: 1. The (poorly translated) public pronouncements about an RD from the Iraqi media, and; 2. The repetition of the public data regarding the Iraqi banking system balance sheet as the justification for the alleged impossibility of an RV before an RD. As a longtime student of military and geopolitical strategy (I am a distinguished graduate of both the Armed Forces Staff College and the Naval War College), I know that economics is but one aspect of any nation's power. However, the economic component is inextricably tied to the other aspects of power. Given the obvious respect most "pro-RDers" have for CBI Governor Shabibi, not only as an economist but also as a politician, please share your insights with this forum on how an RD will not only help the Iraqi economy, but will also help them with the other aspects of national power, specifically: 1. National reputation, especially among their fellow Arab states; 2. Attracting investment to help expand their economy; 3. Quelling rising social unrest; 4. Allowing them to establish security for their citizens. Please know that I'm not baiting you, but it's long past time that we had a forthright discussion that goes beyond the balance sheet argument and includes these other aspeects of national power as equally important factors determining an RD versus an RV. Thanks for keeping it respectful. The floor is yours!
  15. Welcome home, and thank you for your service.
  16. IMO they would use whatever the new IQD value is to force an early cash-in and bring in all the large bills. I seriously doubt that cash-in window would exceed 90 days.
  17. Kuwait's attitude is a logical outgrowth of the culture that has existed in the ME for centuries. It is essentially still a tribal society, governed by tribal laws and customs. Above all, their sense of "honor" governs their actions and statements. Obviously, Kuwait thinks they have been so harmed by Iraq that they must extract every pound of flesh they can, and keep Iraq under their thumb for as long as possible. I'm also sure Kuwait recognizes that once Iraq exits chapter 7, its economy will take off and quickly outdistance Kuwait's. So they're doing this for competitive reasons as well. I'm just surpirsed that the UNSC has gone along with it as long as they have. Perhaps there ARE some backroom dealings we don't know about. Hmmmm.
  18. No, it revalues at 1 Iraqi Dinar to .8507 US cents, and then appreciates from there to 1:1 after two years. So in this scenario, 100,000 IQD would be worth $85,070 USD, minus fees and cash-in spread. Correction: the revalue would be to 85.07 US cents. My bad!
  19. Thanks for the post, bb. Exciting!
  20. So they're goona take their ball and go home If they're so concerned about the political process, why didn't they call for a vote of no confidence?
  21. Fellow Dinarians, This is an FYI on a purely hypothetical situation. I recognize that, in the final analysis, the CBI can do just about anything it wants regarding the RV. However, if the CBI RVs on January 1, 2012, and follows the current legal guidance (i.e., that the value of the IQD can change only 2% every 90 days) going forward, then here's how the next two years' values would play out to reach a 1:1, USD to IQD value: 1Q/2012: .8507 2Q/2012: .8681 3Q/2012: .8858 4Q/2012: .9039 1Q/2013: .9224 2Q/2013: .9412 3Q/2013: .9604 4Q/2013: .9800 1Q/2014: 1.000 Again, this is a purely hypothetical scenario. However, it does address both the current legal guidance AND the public statements by GOI and CBI officials regarding their collective desire for the IQD to have a value comparable to the USD.
