  1. Response from a mod: We are frequently chastised for being too controlling over threads and responses, and then with the next breath faulted for not stopping anything rougher than a fine grit. One of the reasons DV is a successful site is that we try hard not to over-moderate. You don't have to like us, but you do have to respect the difficulty of the job we VOLUNTEER to do here.

  3. Vern, you need to stop smoking what you're growing in your garden.
  4. Wowza!! In my estimation, this sums up the entire problem with Iraq moving forward!!
  5. Tommyboy, that's exactly what's been happening! Whenever we hear news about Maliki submitting names, those are all names of people from his political bloc. Then the two other blocs say "No way! We're not going to let you have the majority power in Parliament!!" So then the Iraqiya bloc submits names and Maliki tells them "They aren't qualified!" The subtext being, "I'm not going to let you have power either." So, in the end, nothing gets done!! I've been watching this particular situation closely since the seating announcements in December, and said then that this is going to be one of the big obstacles to an RV happening.
  6. First off.... Riley, thank for all the hard work getting this chat up here AND taking names for the Q & A! You truly rock!!! Now, Dinars_ready, I booted you twice from chat last night because you were speaking out of turn. That's the only reason. I understand your feeling about the need to "lighten up" but if ALL the interruptions are not addressed, pretty soon it turns into a free-for-all on the chat. You were certainly not the only one who got the boot, but you responded appropriately and respectfully and I appreciate it! Hope to see you again on the next chat.
  7. This has got to be the best rumor EVER!!!!! The Flag Fringe Factor!
  8. No, don't take it back. I think I'm just further down the frustration continuum than you at the moment. At some point I'll be looking to boost you up if you get exhausted with their promises.
  9. Coldwarvet, I cannot help with the news media affiliation, but I do have a political scorecard.
  10. I really believe it will come in about $.86. It gives a chance to revalue the national currency and pull in lots of the outside large currency while still giving room for appreciation, and a possible second RV. It is also consistent with what Shab and the CBI have always suggested with the "raising of the zeros."
  11. We just achieved half of what it took the Iraqi GOI to complete in an entire year!! Yeah, us!
  12. “One year after the elections, parliament has only passed two laws,” Isn't that pathetic?
  13. The House of Representatives has voted with a majority for taking a vote of confidence for the government of Prime Minister nouri Al-Maliki It's been posted twice now. Are they actually going to hold him responsible? It's about time!!!
  14. What a finger pointer!!! He has been saying all this time that the Security Ministers were HIS to appoint, and now he blames the other blocs for not agreeing on submitted names. I call for vote of No Confidence!!
  15. This is what I find most interesting. Hmmmm...... Maybe Maliki's seat is getting hot after all?
  16. I find many of these news articles difficult to read, from the challenging translations provided by software, to the smoke and mirrors that are intended to confuse us. One thing that has helped me to keep some sense of where things are is knowing who the different players and teams, so to speak. So, I'm posting this list of the three major political parties that are active in the Iraqi Government and the heads of those parties so that we can hopefully see what slant the news is taking, or at least who the more reliable factions are. Hope someone finds this helpful. Parliamentary alliances and parties National Iraqi Alliance Supreme Islamic Iraqi Council (al-Majlis al-alalith-thaura l-islamiyya fil-Iraq) - led by Ammar al-Hakim Sadrist Movement - led by Muqtada al-Sadr Islamic Dawa Party - Iraq Organisation (Hizb al-Da'wa al-Islami Tendeem al-Iraq) - led by Kasim Muhammad Taqi al-Sahlani Islamic Dawa Party (Hizb al-Da'wa al-Islamiyya) - led by Nouri al-Maliki Tribes of Iraq Coalition - led by Hamid al-Hais Islamic Fayli Grouping in Iraq - led by Muqdad Al-Baghdadi Democratic Patriotic Alliance of Kurdistan Kurdistan Democratic Party (Partiya Demokrat a Kurdistanê) - led by Massoud Barzani Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (Yaketi Nishtimani Kurdistan) - led by Jalal Talabani Kurdistan Islamic Union (Yekîtiya Islamiya Kurdistan) Movement for Change (Bizutnaway Gorran) - led by Nawshirwan Mustafa Kurdistan Toilers’ Party (Parti Zahmatkeshan Kurdistan) Kurdistan Communist Party (Partiya Komunîst Kurdistan) Assyrian Patriotic Party Iraqi List (al-Qayimaal Iraqia) Iraqi National Accord - led by Iyad Allawi http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_political_parties_in_Iraq
  17. I think it's all been said. Have a nice day!
  18. Still only speaking for the National Alliance. This has to get past the List and the Kurds.
  19. Have you ever heard of Limbs for Life? http://www.limbsforlife.org/ Conceived and run by a friend of ours. He spent some major time in Haiti after the earthquake. They do wonderful things!
