Leader and Vocalist of Band "Area" http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Demetrio_Stratos Area - Cometa Rossa ( Red Comet) live Italian Jazz - Rock- Prog. Band ( politically involved) whose Leader was Greek Singer Demetrio Stratos , extraordinary Vocalist (RIP). Had the privilege to see them twice in concert. One time with Demetrio in 1975 ( he passed away in 1979) and then another time without him. Band was really good and Stratos performance and singing absolutely unique. He did indeed have a special gift. I believe in 1977 or 78 he won first prize at the Contemporary Music Festival in NYC. He presented a voice-only tune from his solo voice album "Metrodora". Audience tributed him a standing ovation 10 mins. long ( at least so reported the chronicles of the time). http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Area_%28band%29 Sung in Greek. Translation ( partial) . Ancient Greek Poem. Open my lips, April sweetly so that I can sing Open heart Comet Close the Poets' mouth Comet close the mouth and go away Open eyes to Freedom

With all the due respect Saint.... Soccer fans are one thing and soccer hooligans another... I know lots ( almost all my friends infact..I'm not into soccer myself...) of people who love soccer ( calcio in italian) and they never had anything to do with violence.....I'd say most "healthy" soccer fans are that way... Then you have the weirdos, crazy, frustrated types who bring all their pent up problems to the stadium and then release this dangerous quantity of craziness....And they decide to associate with like -(bad)minded individuals....Unfortunately...I'd guess lots of reasons behind that... they're mostly un-educated, maybe ( many) jobless, problems at home... Not trying to justify , mind you.. Then you have of course also the real genuine bad person who loves getting into fights everytime as that is their ( sick) idea of fun.

Well..I don't know about the ones in other sports ...But soccer hooligans are indeed nuts and bad...And besides their own natural bad being...In this specific case they were also drinking rivers of beer.... Which didn't help

Rachel Sanderson in Milan Hundreds of fans of Feyenoord, the Dutch football club, clashed with armed Italian riot police in one of Rome’s most beautiful piazzas on Thursday, capping a torrid week for European football. Police in protective helmets beat back hundreds of fans who had rampaged through the streets of central Rome before converging on the cobbled square beneath the Spanish Steps. Images released by Italian media showed Dutch fans, who were in Rome for a Europa League match with the local team AS Roma, hurling bottles and stones at police. Several men were also caught on camera apparently giving the fascist salute while standing on the piazza’s central Barcaccia fountain. Police said 20 people had been arrested and more than 10 injured during the clashes. The clashes cap a torrid week for European football following racist comments from one of Italy’s top officials Arrigo Sacchi who said too many “coloured” players featured in Italian football. On Tuesday, a group of English football fans attached to Chelsea FC at an away game in Paris were caught on camera blocking a black passenger from getting on a Metro train. “Rome is devastated and injured . . . This doesn’t finish here,” Ignazio Marino, Rome’s mayor, said via Twitter. He added he was in contact with the Dutch ambassador. A spokesman for the Dutch embassy said it was a “disgrace” and he was supportive of the Italian police, according to Italian media reports. http://www.ft.com/cms/s/0/58303dca-b88a-11e4-a2fb-00144feab7de.html#axzz3SJSOCt2K
