Shafaq News/ The presidency of the Iraqi parliament announced on Thursday setting the seventh of next February as the date for holding the special session to elect the new president of the republic.

The Presidency of the House of Representatives said in a statement today that it held a meeting to discuss the provisions and procedures related to the nomination of the post of President of the Republic.

During the meeting, the presidency decided to announce the names of the candidates for the post of President of the Republic who met the legal conditions on next Monday, January 31, after completing the legal procedures based on the Law No. 8 of 2012 on the provisions of the nomination for the post of President of the Republic.

In its statement, the Presidency set Monday, February 7, as the date for the House of Representatives session to elect the President of the Republic.

More than 40 people submitted their names to the Iraqi Council of Representatives as candidates for the post of President of the Republic.

According to the political custom followed throughout the previous sessions, the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan has held the position of President of the Republic since the overthrow of Saddam Hussein's regime in 2003.

But in terms of numbers, the fact that the Kurdistan Democratic Party won 31 parliamentary seats in the recent legislative elections, compared to only 17 seats for the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan, may reverse the equation this time.

The outgoing President of the Republic, Barham Ahmed Salih, is competing for the same position with the Kurdistan Democratic Party's candidate, Hoshyar Zebari.

The Democratic Party says that the Union nominated Saleh for the position without the approval of the rest of the Kurdish political forces, which prompted him to put forward a candidate from his side to fill the position.

The head of the State of Law coalition, Nuri al-Maliki, said today, Thursday, that his hand is extended "for the best relations."

Al-Maliki said in a blog post, seen by NRT Arabic, "I used to not respond in my political and social life to those who transcend and personify national political differences, and my response to them in the political and security fields, in defense of Iraq and the security and interests of citizens and to stop harming those who underestimate blood and confiscate money." property and liberties.

Al-Maliki added, "From a position of strength and power, and a sense of responsibility, I say to everyone looking for differences and venting grudges and hatred that my hand is extended for the best relations, if it is in the interest of Iraq and its people, and without it I do not like and do not welcome any relationship and partnership with any party that harms the interests of Iraq and the dignity of people."      Baghdad: morning

Yesterday, Wednesday, the First Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hakim Al-Zamili, revealed the great challenges facing the new parliament, most notably the detection of default and corruption in the electricity file.
A statement from his office stated that, "The Crisis Cell in the Sadrist Parliamentary Bloc, which is charged with following up the file of the electrical power outage, held an important meeting in the presence of Al-Zamili, the Vice President of the Sadrist Bloc Hassan Karim Al-Kaabi, and members of the cell. Al-Zamili stressed, according to the statement, that “the House of Representatives faces many challenges, the most important of which is exposing failure and corruption in the file of the electrical system outage, which requires all parliamentarians to work with high national responsibility and in the spirit of one team, to exercise parliamentary oversight means, and to host and hold all those responsible for the corruption accountable.” Wasting public money over the past years, especially with regard to the electricity and energy file, in order to provide the service that millions of Iraqi people are waiting for.
For its part, the crisis cell in the Sadrist bloc called, according to the statement, "to scrutinize and follow up on the electricity and oil file and to develop the necessary and urgent solutions to address the continuing power outages, while it was agreed to develop an effective road map to overcome economic challenges in accordance with legislative and oversight frameworks."

Once their exposed and punished. (Hopefully Malaki falls in that group) so justice is served quickly. Part of their punishment , if not a rope , should be life in Iraq without electricity for the rest of their lives for payback to the mass suffering they have caused.

The visit of the commander of the Iranian Quds forces, is a sign of desperation.

They know they’re losing political control over Iraq.

Al Sadr with the Kurds and the Sunnis are blocking any attempt of Al Maliki

and the leaders of the coordination framework to form a majority government.

The Iranian are going to start targeting political figures.

    Go Iraq

    Go Al Sadr

    Go sovereignty

    Go freedom

The signs are present everywhere! Barrage of rockets showing their willingness to intimidate and their displeasure with political movement. Chess moves by Maliki and others along with physical presence of  this Quds force commander. They are desperate pulling every trick they can. They are consistently and terminally power hungry control freaks!

    Go Sadr!

  5. The walls are closing in on Maliki with the reduction in upper level government staff and hopefully he won't be able to negotiate a new place in the government to seek protection from prosecution. The Maliki appointed CBI Govenor looks really bad with the last minute bombshell of the sewer soaked 7 Billion Dinar. We need a seated government followed by a big ROUND UP of corrupt officials. This should go a long way to proving to the people of Iraq that their government is working on their behalf.  Approval of the HCL and a currency with newly issued lower denominations  plus an associated rate change.

I have been hanging on the edge of my seat for many years but this country does not move fast on anything. At this point I'm thinking 2019 although the pressures of sanctions on Iran along with the dollar and oil squeeze may force it into this year which I truly hope so because I'm tired! A few years ago during one of our election cycles there was some middle east crisis in the news and a congressman from some east coast state made a comment something like.... "You can't trust anybody with a Dairy Queen tablecloth and a fan belt on their head". He conveniently disappeared from the scene never to be heard from again. At this stage of the game with so many things I have read and the corruption that is rampant in Iraq I am truly ready for this ride to be over not to mention that I sorta share that politicians sentiment.

The FAANG Stocks are two rich for my blood. They are fun to watch! I rode in a Tesla Model 3 the other day and I was quite impressed by it's features and benefits along with the ride and quiet cabin. The stereo was high end home audio and you could even play video games. All in all.. Tesla was super neat technology that I would consider owning at some point. I am an avid fan and customer of Amazon. It's convenient , fast, easy if you need to return something ( on that note I don't know how ebay stays in business) and Amazon is competitive on many items.

Oil is really a risky sector to say the least. I've been watching some potential oils stocks for months and I have seen them take big hits just in the last few weeks. Don't know if I will play even at the low prices I'm seeing today.

CRYPTO - Well that is equally as confusing as oil. I dabble in several coins now and some alt coins but I am down at least on the alt coins as much as 50%. I am hopeful that they will return and soar way beyond my expectations but who knows. Markets are jittery and I think people are anxious to see what happens with the change in congress. Hopefully we can continue moving forward and hopefully our current state of political misery will subside and people can just agree to disagree like we always have and still continue to move forward. I am glad Texas stayed RED and hope that all our elected officials work together to keep this country great.

    GO DINAR!
