The decision by al-Sadr would mark a significant boost for Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki's Shiite-led coalition to secure enough parliament seats to form a new government. Iraq has been in political limbo since March elections, won by a Sunni-backed bloc but without the majority needed to oust al-Maliki. U.S. military officials say the power vacuum is encouraging a spike in attacks by Sunni insurgents trying to humiliate authorities and tap into public frustration. The uncertainties also have hindered Iraq's efforts to lure badly needed foreign investment and get domestic reconstruction plans off the drawing boards. Three senior al-Sadr aides told The Associated Press that a formal announcement on backing al-Maliki's coalition is expected later Friday. A top official for al-Maliki's bloc confirmed that a joint press conference is planned with al-Sadr envoys to "announce the name of the nominee." They all spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not allowed to brief reporters. Al-Sadr's move apparently sets aside past animosity with al-Maliki for a chance to gain a greater voice in a possible new government. Al-Sadr — who has been in self-exile in Iran since 2007 — has denounced al-Maliki's government for its close ties to Washington and a joint security pact that allows U.S. military presence through at least the end of next year. BAGHDAD (Reuters) – An alliance of Iraq's Shi'ite political blocs picked incumbent Nuri al-Maliki on Friday as its nominee for prime minister, alliance officials said, ending months of wrangling that had stalled formation of a government. The decision by the National Alliance, a merger of Maliki's Shi'ite-led State of Law coalition and the Tehran-friendly Iraqi National Alliance (INA), marked a breakthrough in talks among Iraq's political factions for a new government after a March 7 parliamentary election that produced no clear winner. "We have nominated Maliki as the candidate of the National Alliance," Ali al-Adeeb, a senior member of Maliki's Dawa party said. At least two other sources in a meeting of the National Alliance blocs confirmed the nomination, but a formal announcement had not yet been made. Sources said the nomination was agreed by State of Law, which has 89 seats in parliament, and the Sadrist political movement of anti-American Shi'ite cleric Moqtada al-Sadr, the two key members of the National Alliance, as well as smaller factions. But it was not immediately clear if the Supreme Islamic Iraqi Council (ISCI), another key member of the INA had signed up to the nomination. Speaking to AKnews correspondent on Tuesday, Shorish Haji, the Head of the Kurdish Factions Alliance (KFA) said that the leaders of the major parliamentary blocs would meet on July 25 to hold their third gathering. "The blocs are expected to finally come into terms with each other as regards with any possible merger as well as distribution of the three ranking positions in the next cabinet", Haji noted. The new Iraqi lawmakers were to gather for the second time on July 13 to elect the next Iraqi President, Prime Minister and the Speaker of the Parliament. However, the assembly was postponed for two weeks because the blocs were divided over the distribution of the positions and so far they have met twice to settle their differences; nevertheless, their talks led to no solutions. "Iraqi political parties are due to take a crucial decision about convening the parliamentary session", Najib Abdullah, the Head of Kurdistan Islamic Union (KIU) Faction in the Iraqi Parliament told AKnews. In case the blocs can reach a consensus or whatever progress, the parliament may resume its sessions, according to Abdullah. After the meeting of the blocs on Monday, Haydar 'Abadi, a member of the State of Law Coalition, the parliamentary bloc led by Nuri al-Maliki, told the reporters that the parties did not agree on the date for the next session of the Parliament. first off welcome to the sight, i'm fairly new and i read alot of the posts from some great peeps, very informative and helpful, and of course waiting just like you and me for our payday. anyway, i'm gonna help ya out buddy, cause i also have an account here in iraq. if you want to transfer money from your usd acct to your iqd acct. or vis versa you have to go into the ACCOUNT OPERATIONS TAB, and then go down 4 tabs which say money transfer with different currency, there is where you'll be able to transfer the funds needed to either your IQD, or USD. last time i tried transfering funds from my IQD to USD it didn't work and it hasn't for some reason or another. i keep getting an offline error code. so try that and see if it works out for ya. The Iraqi Parliamentary elections were held on March 7, and the results were announced on the 26th the same month. The outcomes showed the progress of al-Iraqia List, led by Iyad Allawi by gaining 91 seats, over the other Iraqi lists. The State of Law Coalition, headed by the outgoing Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki won 89 seats, while the Iraqi National Alliance (INA) secured 70 seats and Kurdistani Coalition List came in the fourth place by obtaining 43 seats. However, the Kurdish lists entered an alliance after the elections, called Kurdish Factions Alliance (KFA), with 57 seats. On June 1st the Iraqi Federal Court ratified the outcomes of the parliamentary elections and on 14th the same month the new Iraqi Parliament convened its first session. i wanted to say hello to all of you. i just registered to this site but i am not new to the whole dinar issue. currently working here in iraq and if anyone has a question in regards to our soon to be investment, then by all means ask away. the latest and greatest i have gathered so far is the banks are back up and running after there drawn out vacation, seems like every month they have one. anyway, i'm located in southern iraq and we do have a warka branch here in our installation, also the near completion of another bank as well. my investment started earlier this year and have reached where i want to be at with an account at warka. i can pass any new information that comes across my way, as well as the latest news info from iraq as soon as it hits the airwaves. i want this to hit as much as you guys want it, so i believe patience is the key to all this cause let me tell you, from personal experiance dealing with these people, for the past 2 to 3 years, nothing is done with a fast pace. every brother,cousin, uncle, and whatever else comes along want their share of the pie, so at least things are not going backwards, only closer to an outstanding RV.
