Have you also considered HirePatriots.com a program setup by a non-profit organization Patriotic Hearts from San Diego? it was started because of many unemployed Marines after multiple deployments and transitioning from active duty to civilian life. It's a one day job board posting for temporarily employment and engages the community to support businesses to hire our veterans and retiring servicemembers. Unemployment is now up for Veterans of all military branches 14.1 % as of today vs. the civilian sector of 9.1%. It has been reported that 70,000 military service members will be transitioning out of the military this summer with no jobs lined up yet. Suicides, PTSD & TBI , unemployment, divorces , homelessness is exponentially increasing and it's not going to get any better until we educate the community that this will impact local communities that have some level of connection with our veterans.
I am a professional life coach specializing in helping these veterans transition back to civilian life and it is an uphill battle and it will take a village to take care of them. I'm very passionate about this because I'm a daughter of a retired veteran, sister of a brother in the army that went through 3 tours of duty in Iraq, and I have a son who is a Navy Corpsman that was just deployed last week with the Marines from Camp Pendleton to Afghanistan. So there is a lot of skin in the game for me in terms of these Veterans and they deserve more than just saying Thank you and then just walk away, there needs to be action put behind those words. They don't want hand outs but a hand up from all of us. Food for thought.
