  1. Hey hey good morning DinarVets! This is one of those "holy MOLY" spots in history - so much is going on right now! Coronovirus is shaking the stock markets - if you didn't catch @Pitcher's posts in my chat last week, they are worth a look! Super Tuesday was yesterday, and it looks like the Dem race is officially Old White Guy #1 vs Old White Guy #2. (I have nothing against old white guys, I just think it's funny ). Mike Bloomberg bought American Samoa, apparently. Speaking of politics... 'tis almost full tilt political season, according to the drama-meter we run in the background. I'll take a second to gently remind everyone that this is a nice place to visit, we won't all agree on everything, and we like to keep things calm, cool, and collected. And nice. Just be nice to each other, please. BTC is hovering around the 8700 mark, despite the political and health topics and markets. Solid. On to the dinar, which is of course the heart of these updates! We also have some member questions that I'll get to shortly. Sitting (temporary?) PM Allawi has threatened resignation - rather, he has "withdrawn his candidacy". I said from the start that he wasn't my top choice for the spot, but he certainly impressed me! The man went in and started kicking things around like an Iraqi Jack Welch, which is exactly what needed to happen in Iraq. I get the feeling that he is an "all or nothing" kind of guy and didn't feel comfortable with what could have been a solid 80% win. So, what's next? The Iraqi President can simply appoint someone (again), but it's not necessary to take drastic action. Maybe Mahdi steps back up (he was never really gone), but that doesn't make a difference either. As mentioned in a recent post: The good news for us, and Iraq? No matter who steps into the Prime Minister role next, Allawi was able to get some wood chopped. Iran lost a LOT of power over the last month, for one. I think that may have more to do with Allawi's current decision than anything - he seems to want them completely gone, not just 80% reduced. Most importantly, and this is the crux of the matter, Allawi wasn't elected to this position in the first place - yet, things got done. In my opinion, the raise in the value of the Dinar is going to happen regardless of who is sitting in the Prime Minister chair. All of the things that need to happen in Iraq continue to happen, and "who" is sitting "where" does not seem to matter. EDIT: As I was wrapping up this post, @tigergorzow posted this: My thoughts on it were stated above, and remain the same - the name doesn't matter, as long as it's not Maliki! Someone will be in that seat, soon, and the train will continue to chug along. We are getting close. ====== Member questions below ===== This is a very reasonable question - it is based on logic and a thoughtful approach to the issue... ... unlike fiat currency, which is based on nothing of the sort, and actually throws reason out the window. The Iraqi Dinar is a fiat currency, just like the US dollar, and logical rules utilizing responsible financial principals simply do not apply. For this reason alone, it simply does not need to make financial sense to RV. Check out @ladyGrace'sDaddy's post below: Nicely stated, LGD. The summary is this: Iraq doesn't need a 1:1 reserve:cash ratio to have a 1:1 parity with the US dollar, or any other ratio to the dollar. The only thing that matters is "will it sell" - and, it will. There's always one in the group! This is a great question as well! I don't think "massive" is the correct term. "Significant" - definitely, but it's not "massive". Nonetheless - I would only be concerned if OIL was suddenly no longer in demand. Any dips or peaks in the price of oil are temporary until the global demand for oil is eliminated. While OIL is a necessary product in the global economy, the price can fluctuate all it wants - Iraq still has a majority of it, and they will be able to bank on that. If the entire world switched to solar overnight, then it would be "game over". Until that happens, I am not too concerned about the price of oil. 1 - I'll need more info on "1,000,000 IQD is forbidden". The rule is $10,000 (USD) and up must be declared in most countries. 2 - I still remember my first trip to Dubai, where there was a security checkpoint that required removing our shoes and they sprayed everyone's feet with disinfectant on the way through... but regarding your question, I'm going to need a link to be sure we are discussing the same thing Great post, Synopsis The forum software will collapse your comment, but I'd encourage anyone interested to click on it to expand and read it. My answer: I agree with your closing statement: Auctions... I'm not sure what you mean about the auctions. The auctions don't matter - if they sell at 1160 today but sell at 12 tomorrow, do we care what the rate was yesterday or if they did an auction yesterday? The auctions will continue after the rate is changed. It's how they do business. Iran's influence was a major factor, but it is greatly reduced already and looks to be shrinking more by the day. All is well in my opinion! ========= / end Member Q's ======= WHEW! That was a fun update, I really appreciate the feedback and questions from the members! I'll do that again soon, or not, depending on Iraq. Don't forget to chuck your numbers in the Weekly Pool, and GOOOOO RRRRVVVVVV!!!! - Adam

  2. I can take Al Abadi, but Maliki, NOPE. If Maliki becomes PM again, anyone who wants to, can buy my Dinar for a very good price. I don’t think Abadi did a bad job. Jmho.

  3. The above chart is the S&P 500 on a daily chart. Wow what a day, INCREDIBLE!! Dow up 4.53%, S&P up 4.22% Nas up 3.85%. That is a huge up day folks. I believe this is a direct result of one Market uncertainty lessened, and that is the Dem Nomination is Biden’s to lose. The DNC is all in for Biden. That is a big relief for the market and a boom for the Healthcare Sector, up 4.89%!!! The other factor seemed to be that the big boys decided to go in and try to exploit this relief rally. The relief rally I’ve been talking about is definitely in play. For how much longer will it go? I’ve been trading for over 20 years and I’m not going in but if I had to make a guess I would say watch the 100, 50, and 20 ema moving averages. Those are resistance points which sometimes become a barrier or a reversal point. The next Pivot Point is at 3198 and where the 20 ema is at this moment. I just don’t like to get whipsawed on the first hint of bad news which was pretty bad today with the CV in NY, Cali, and Washington State. Today the market shrugged off the news and ran like crazy. Will it continue? Maybe for a few more days but tomorrow could just as easily be down after the big day up today. I like the RSI (circled) which has a reading over 44, usually a good time to enter. I also look at On Balance Volume, the Williams A/D, and MACD ( circled below the chart), which are not to good yet imo. Bottom line I believe this was a good trade-able relief rally for the short term but if you go in you better be ready to get whipsawed on any news. If you believe the bottom was 2855 then you better have some strong conviction in your picks or be ready to stomach some hurt on a reversal on bad news. That’s what makes a market, some go in and some wait. I choose to wait because I do very well Day Trading. I just believe the Coronavirus is too much of a wild card to go Long at this point. The action is too violent for me to go Long. I will just continue to Day Trade until I feel it’s the right time. I’m waiting for a retest of 2855. If we get it then I win. If it continues to go higher there will be an entry point that I feel comfortable playing. I’m pretty conservative with my Swings and Longs and have a ton of patience, especially in such an uncertain crisis that is the Coronavirus. Do your own DD and be careful. This is a very volatile time for the markets.

  5. 3-4-2020 Newshound/Intel Guru Mnt Goat Article: "Urgent: The President of the Republic approves Allawi's resignation..." Where does Iraq go from here? Will the UN step in and take over? Probably not...I don’t think Iraq is at this point yet. They are still within their democratic government. Can the UN legally put in place a provisional government to run Iraq in the meantime. No, they cannot do this. How much longer can this go on before Iraqi economy really tanks? If they do not get the budget approved they can not go ahead with any of the projects they had planned for 2020. This new year is quickly slipping by. The economy too is stagnating and inflation could set in. Will us investors have to wait yet another year to 2021 to see the RV? This may very well be the case. It appears they just paid the Kurds their salaries. This is not in our favor and shows they already are using the 1/12 rule of the budget...

  7. 3-5-2020 Intel/Newshound Guru sandyf [Question: Revaluation. The bigger question is what do people understand by the term "revaluation".] If a currency changes from X/USD to Y/USD is it a revaluation/devaluation or not. A redenomination of the national currency is a revaluation of the monetary unit and that is what was being considered by the CBI when Shabibi was at the helm. 3-5-2020 Newshound/Intel Guru Mnt Goat Article: "DRAFT FEDERAL BUDGET LAW FOR THE FISCAL YEAR 2020 IS STILL IN THE MINISTRY OF FINANCE" Our reinstatement is based on the 2020 budget. They must pass it to get what we want. But first to pass it they must get the government in place... Of course, there is going to be Iranian backed resistance since the currency auction corruption feeding Iran will go away when this is concluded. 3-5-2020 Newshound Guru Jeff Article quote: "in the case that parliament fails to vote next time on the government cabinet it will be dissolved and early elections will be held." They're considering dissolving the government and holding early elections...Kurdistan wants to be part of the new government...equal say and equal majority within the formation of the new government. That's the reason they're dissolving the government...that's the reason they're playing you like a fool, telling you that the current government is unstable so they can hold early elections in April to bring Kurdistan on board...

By Ismaeel Naarand Hassan al-Saeedi, Al Arabiya EnglishSaturday, 22 September 2018 Sources with close knowledge of internal political consultations have asserted that among the names being floated by political groups for Iraq’s premiership include that of Mazen al-Eshaiker. Several observers have said that al-Eshaiker might have better chances in case Adel Abulmahdi is not able to grab the opportunity of becoming Iraq’s next prime minister. Sources said that the political powers had reached a shortlist of candidates for the prime minister position on two conditons: One who would not belong to any party and two, did not hold any position in the previous governments. Al-Eshaiker meets both conditions. Speaking to Al Arabiya English, al-Eshaiker said that rampant corruption in Iraq due to the poor choices of ministers who represent the interests of various political parties led political parties in preferring an independent. “By selecting an Independent technocrat PM who picks his or her own ministers who will be responsible and accountable for the actions of all ministries instead of being accountable to the parties that nominated them,” al-Eshaiker told Al Arabiya English. Iraqi lawmakers are seen during the first session of the new Iraqi parliament in Baghdad. (Reuters) Sources also said that the political groups had agreed that the next prime minister would have the freedom to choose the ministerial structure of his government. Al-Eshaiker confirmed that he was among the nominees for prime minister and thanked all those who trusted him as an independent technocrat candidate. Al-Eshaiker, an electronic engineering graduate from the University of California in 1985, expressed via Facebook his appreciation for the people’s trust and support for his candidacy. He highlighted that the incoming government has many challenges to improve the political, economic and security situation. “Ministers needs to be chosen according to integrity, experience and competence standards,” he wrote. Al-Eshaiker pointed out that Iraq is on the edge economically. “There is no way to continue with the quota system. Dividing the ministries according to the nationalities and sects was the reason for the reluctance of most voters not participating in the last parliamentary elections,” he wrote. Al-Eshaiker, an economic and political expert, was born in Karbala governorate. He was previously one of the Bairaq al-Khair al mondawi in the Victory Alliance headed by Haider al-Abadi. So far, al-Fath, Saairun, al-Qarar, al-Wataniya and al-Hekma had approved accepted him to be one of the candidates, while he awaits for other blocs to approve. Al-Eshaiker had established many electronic labs in the US, Mexico, China, Thailand, Taiwan and Singapore, he was the General Manager of Motorola Iraq from 2003 to 2007. Then he became an economic expert in the premiership before being CEO of Asia cell Telecom in Sulaymaniyah and then he managed the Nalco Oil Company in Basra. The main factors of al-Eshaiker’s program mainly depends on a strong developmental economic program, aside from the policy of piling employees in the governmental departments and allowing the free economy to take its natural place in construction, industry, agriculture, trade and tourism to absorb the Iraqi competencies and the unemployed labor force, to raise the living standards and service for all the Iraqi people. 14. Goldman Sachs says oil will be at 45 by April. I’ve read other reports that say mid 30’s. We’ll just have to see what shakes out. The problem is OPEC doesn’t dictate the price anymore. Many US producers are selling all they can just to keep from going under.

  18. Our economy, the government of voluntary absence and the independence of the central bank 05/03/2020 Banking advisor Samir Al-Nassery The central banks in the world are independent financial and sovereign institutions in the implementation of their tasks and monetary policies and outline their strategy to achieve their goals in supporting the national economy and promoting economic stability in a way that achieves the welfare of society. After 2003, the Central Bank of Iraq, in accordance with its Law 56 of 2004, followed in the footsteps of international banks, especially after the country passed the economic and financial crisis and security turmoil in 2014 for known reasons. His role was clear in supporting the national economy and achieving economic resilience and on the occasion of the statement of the Prime Minister of the resigned government to the President of the Republic and the House of Representatives and his declaration that he is going to voluntary absence and will not exercise his constitutional and legal powers due to the political reality that the country is going through now and the attractiveness of choosing a prime minister New to the new interim government after the Prime Minister-designate apologized. Going to voluntary absence and not forming a new government means that the 2020 budget will delay its approval and that its economic effects will harm the national economy and consequently will harm citizens and construction and investment will stop and it is expected that the planned deficit will rise to the limits of more than 50 trillion dinars with expectations of global oil prices falling to less than 50 dollars a barrel until the third quarter of this year due to the consequences of the Corona virus and slow growth in the global economy and this is certainly in the case of continued economic conditions in Iraq will lead to economic stagnation and then recession after several months and then we will return to square one Which it is suffering experienced by Iraq in 2015. And considering the essential role played by the central bank at the time when it addressed the economic and security shocks and supported the national economy and helped it withstand good governance and sound policies and applications of monetary policy with daily procedures and mechanisms. As the Central Bank of Iraq administration, its work team, and its cadres proved that they had a prominent role in promoting economic resilience and taking a steady step towards economic stability through wise and rational efforts and measures in the applications of monetary policy and development policies of the Central Bank in the difficult economic phase of Iraq, they were able to draw a clear roadmap for the goals And aspirations to achieve economic stability and stimulate economic growth through important achievements they achieved during the past five years, the most important of which is to maintain inflation by no more than 2% and a good level of adequacy of foreign reserves within Acceptable rates according to international standards, maintaining the stability of the exchange rate, stimulating the banking sector in an organizational, supervisory and supervisory manner, facing the current political crisis and conditions of popular mobility, and ensuring that the Iraqi banking sector is solid and able to withstand shocks compared to neighboring countries that have gone through the same conditions. 👉The available data confirm that the critical situation of the Iraqi economy needs the intervention of the central bank to face the new conditions and this requires the new government to believe in the independence of the central bank and not to interfere in the appointment of its leadership and technical and professional cadres during its interim period 👈 and until early elections and the coming of a new parliament and government come because the current administration It proved successful in the most difficult of circumstances and saved the national economy from collapse when the Minister of Finance announced in 2015 that the government would not be able to secure the salaries of employees and retirees. Because the focus is on the independence of the central bank and its distance from tensions and Political interests are the solution to overcoming economic crises and achieving economic stability.👈

  25. Parliamentary efforts to reduce the interest of bank loans Wednesday 04 March 2020 Baghdad / Al-Sabah / Shaima Rashid The Parliamentary Finance Committee ruled out that the budget for this year 2020 would be voted on due to the lack of time remaining, while its efforts to reduce the benefits of bank loans indicated that it leads to a decline in the economic growth of the country. Member of the Finance Committee Ahmed Al-Hajj Rashid said in a statement to "Al-Sabah": "The issue of interest is one of the methods of monetary policy, and the benefits are measured by the economic activity of the country. The more successful the activity, the higher the benefits and vice versa, meaning that the activity if it is weak must be benefits." Few, and if the government wants to reduce public expenditures, it must increase interest. 28. I live in Louisiana and there seems to be no slow down in the oil drilling industry, in fact I saw a recruiting add today offering entry level jobs with no experience necessary and offering lots of overtime. Lots of these young men working as drilling consultants work 14 days on and 14 days off making $2,000 plus a day.

  29. Thank you for the great post Adam. I put up 2 posts last night that basically stated that there is still a good demand for oil. I also read that the CEO of Chevron stated that oil demand was solid. The ppb has gone down but it’s hanging in there considering China was basically off line for 2 months. They are now at 60% capacity in their factories and are ramping up as the CV subsides. Drill Baby Drill.

  30. "Reap the Whirlwind" is an expression usually reserved when one is threatening the life of another human being. It's most famous juice was in the movies Young Guns and Young Guns 2 by Billy the Kid. Chuck you Schumer use that expression threatening 2 Supreme Court Justices yesterday. Nancy Pelosi said Terry gup the State of the Union speech what's better than the alternative oh, what was the alternative? These people hold High positions of power within our government and are threatening the lives of other government officials, this is called SEDITION. 31. https://www.thebaghdadpost.com/en/Story/47346/Iraqi-revolution-a-quantum-leap-in-collective-awareness Iraqi revolution...a quantum leap in collective awareness The Iraqi youth rose up against corrupt government in October last year and they are still paying the price of this with their blood as they seek to end such regimes. What the current crop of politicians apparently do not want to understand — or they overlook selectively — is that recycling the same group or their relatives, or even individuals who were appointed in previous criminal governments, is what the people on the streets believe to be the cancer that is eating away at Iraq’s political system and what is left of the state. This applies from the highest official to the most junior employee, including those in the economic and security sectors. What is more dangerous than all of this is that it has become an integral part of daily life. It has become normal for ordinary people to have to protect themselves, to seek benefit from somewhere, or simply to make do. Corruption, in all its forms, is no longer restricted to the ruling class, but has made its way down to society in state departments and their employees, schools, hospitals, in the streets, airports, ports, markets and even families. This threatens their survival and has made it easy for radicalisation, terrorism and fragmentation to spread. This is what the country has experienced during the years of occupation and what has resulted from the armed militias and terrorism that feed on corruption, especially with the availability of massive oil revenues, which is what the uprising wants to eradicate. Ordinary people reject the recycling of politicians, not because they do not like the look of them; or because they are fond of sleeping in the squares in protests away from their homes and families; or out of desire for such positions themselves; but because they know very well the magnitude of the disaster caused by corrupt rulers and thieves. They also know what having them remaining in their positions will do to the country. This is a quantum leap in collective awareness and making it a priority is necessary. It is a continuation of what the ordinary citizens in other countries have achieved; they too are living in transition from onegovernment to another, although there are some differences. In Tunisia, for example, there is a successful model of transitioning from a tyrannical regime to a democratic government. It is no longer a secret that the course of the revolution would not achieve the youth’s aspirations for a better future and the independence of the state and its security, if the corrupt government established by the former regime was not eradicated. Despite the political change, the society still lives part of the past, and therein lies the danger. Transitional justice failed in Iraq after the early years of occupation for many reasons, including the inability to work under the occupation, the racist policies of its local sectarian governments, and a lack of political and security stability. The path to transitional justice, including accountability, truth, dignity and reparations in Tunisia, did not achieve the expected success. The International Centre for Transitional Justice noted this a few days ago at an international conference in Tunisia on truth, accountability, recovery of looted funds and how transitional justice can combat corruption. The centre says that the disruption was caused by limiting transitional justice to violations of civil and political rights. They noted that some countries, such as Argentina, Chile and South Africa, focused on crimes such as torture, murder, forced disappearances and prolonged detention without looking into the corruption that was endemic among officials. Notable exceptions have been mentioned in only a few countries, where transitional justice contributes to pursuing accountability for both human rights violations and corruption. The situation in Iraq differs in that it is experiencing transitional justice in several ways, perhaps the most important of which is the lack of sovereignty, the absence of a government that represents the people, the prolonged violations of human rights, and the country ranking high on the list of administrative and financially corrupt countries. The magnitude of theft in contracts and currency smuggling has reached hundreds of billions of dollars, figures that ordinary citizens cannot fully comprehend until they are expressed as $15,000 per person (if we are counting only half of the wasted income from oil only since the occupation in 2003); that is $100,000 per Iraqi family. However, following other countries’ experiences with transitional justice, such as Tunisia and South Africa, and looking at their experience in combating corruption and recovering illegally looted and acquired assets, as well as holding the corrupt officials accountable, it is necessary for judicial reform and the reform of other state institutions in order to benefit from their successes and avoid their failures. The similarity of oppressive authoritarian regimes and the restriction of national wealth to a few corrupt hands makes the experiences of confronting such regimes and uniting the efforts to get rid of them valuable beyond just one country. This imposes forms of struggle and solidarity that are not necessary new, but in some cases take us back to the era of national liberation. We are noticing this among the youth in the liberation arenas in Iraq, Algeria and Lebanon. The concepts that peoples have long fought to regain, because they are part of their rights, such as their homeland, freedom, dignity and punishment of the oppressors and the corrupt, have been restored to the forefront of the growing realm of consciousness. They are the same values that the colonists wanted to erase and managed to do so over time, in cooperation with the local corrupt elite. This success emerged in the form of authoritarian and sectarian governments in addition to submission to the occupier. The depth of the demands of the uprisings for the homeland became clearer with the continuation of theprotests and the martyrdom of young people almost daily. The demands to topple the regime and hold the killers accountable, as well as calling for an end to nepotism and favouritism, are essential to determining the composition of the next government, albeit transitional, and to establish the foundations of any future national administration. It is a qualitative leap that combines the ambition to clean up politics, the judiciary, the economy and practices that have permeated the structure of society for decades. These are necessary tasks if Iraq is to rise from its repression. The uprising, with the courage and sacrifices of its youth, has given the people hope for real change, and not just recycling the corrupt politicians, which was the case in the past. It has also raised awareness that the injustice, humiliation and deprivation of rights are not targeted at individuals, but are aimed at all citizens collectively. This is what the current government, with all of its illegal weapons used against protestors daily, brutally and immorally, will not be able to eliminate forever, despite its desire to do so.

  38. https://oilprice.com/Latest-Energy-News/World-News/OPEC-Source-No-Wednesday-Deal.html OPEC Source: No Wednesday Deal By Julianne Geiger - Mar 04, 2020, 2:30 PM CST The OPEC meeting of ministers from OPEC, Russia, and other non-OPEC producers ended its meeting day without agreeing on a solution to the coronavirus problem, with Russia holding out, an OPEC source told Reuters on Wednesday afternoon, raising doubts that the group will get a bigger cut deal done after all. While Saudi Arabia and a few others had pushed hard for additional cuts—some as much as 1.5 million barrels per day—through the second quarter, Russia, who sits in a better place budget-wise to withstand lower oil prices, instead lobbied to merely keep the existing cuts in place through the end of the second quarter. And while President Vladimir Putin earlier this week saidthat Russia was willing to continue its cooperation with the OPEC+ group, it is no secret that the Russian oil companies were not eager to sign on to additional cuts. Russian Energy Minister Alexander Novak left the Joint Ministerial Monitoring Committee meeting today after discussing the proposals for three hours. Russia’s reluctance to sign on to cut even more oil production does not bode well for the oil markets, which have taken a severe beating by the coronavirus since the beginning of the year. Analysts have surmised that the markets were already pricing in additional cuts by OPEC+, and any failure to fulfill market expectations could have a profound negative effect on oil prices. OPEC has routinely pulled out a win in the eleventh hour, so all hope is not lost, and the bump in the road that is Russia may serve to successfully manage expectations in a market that was primed for a cut between 600,000 bpd and 1 million bpd. Last week, rumors surfaced that Saudi Arabia and two other OPEC members would be willing to go it alone should Russia fail to jump on board with additional cuts.
