I held back replying to this in order to remain respectful. I get so frustrated when people say government social programs are compassionate and Godly. Even more so when that person claims to be a Christian. GOVERNMENT SOCIAL PROGRAMS ARE NEITHER COMPASSIONATE NOR GOODLY. Only hypocritical Christians say that, and only because they pay taxes and they don't want to give more of their money away. Saying it's "compassionate and Godly" only makes you feel better. But your sin is still there. And why is it a wrong statement? Because the compassionate and Godly thing to do is to help someone to rise up and get back on their feet using everything at your disposal. Government social programs are by design the opposite of what I just said. They are designed to give you just barely enough to survive so as to forever keep you in need and thus relying on the government. That's NOT compassion, that's SLAVERY. How do I know so much about government social programs? Because I was once a recipient of them. But my self respect forced me to dig down deep and pull myself up. What was the response from the social worker in my case? She would not help me with truck driving school and told me that by simply paying the small introduction fee I was showing that I've been given too much assistance and thus no longer needed government help. In layman's terms "I was immediately cut off". How compassionate and Godly was that? I ended up finishing the three week school living in my pickup using the restrooms for personal hygiene. And thank God for Top Ramon, otherwise I would have starved. My first year out as a commercial driver I earned $45,000 dollars and that was in 1990. I NEVER got rich being a driver but I NEVER NEEDED ASSISTANCE FROM THE GOVERNMENT AGAIN. And today I make much more money so that my wife can do what she wants to do most in life, be a stay at home mom for my too LOVELY little girls. And ALL of that was by the Grace of God without any government social programs.
