If you remember my comments several weeks ago, I mentioned the Internal rate in Iraq came out as $4.41 rounded. I also want to remind you that there was conversation about the Gov’s wanting to get people to cash in Dinar so could take as much of the volume off the street as they could and they were going to reduce the initial value downwards 20%, and people said they wont do that and there would be riots in the streets. Well they are not worried about the riots. Let’s do the math. If you take $3.68 and use a 20% multiplier (or 1.20) you have the sum of $4.41. This means $3.68 times 1.20 equals $4.41. So this seems to prove out. Now, the rate has been determined and in order for it to become effective the CBI and/or Al-Shabibi or Maliki have to make a formal announcement. Everyone stated this was going to occur today. Never was going to happen today. Here’s why. Let’s talk in Iraq time. They are 8 hours ahead of us in the States. The info on Tuesday (their time) was for the rate. The announcement was for Wednesday OR Thursday at approximately 2:30p ESTUS or later. It would never have happened because they are waiting for Ramadan to end, then they will attend evening prayers and then they will break bread at a meal. It is anticipated that the leaders will assemble Thurdsay evening at 9:00PM Iraqi Time to discuss the announcement after 10:30 pm Iraqi time. In Iraq Friday is a holy day and no business is transacted including banking. On Saturday and Sunday the Iraqi people can do their transaction for the RV. Each President that comes into office inherits where the last President left off. They know this before they even run for President. If they arent good enough to step in, they shouldnt even run. Obama has done nothing to help the American Citizen. I've been lurking here for a few months, and in that time have put more faith in the old axiom, "If we've learned anything from history, it's that we haven't learned anything from history." This is especially applicable with the dinar. The formula(s) of determining the value of a nation’s currency are complex, but in the broadest and most general terms, the bulk of it’s value is determined by a combination of that nation's economic history, it's current economic dynamics (stability, vulnerability), and it's real future economic growth potential. It is also helpful to know that a nation’s currency value is set with a long term view (15-20 years) in mind. In spite of Iraq's well-publicized oil reserves, the dinar is currently valued extremely low, largely due to it’s recent history and subsequent current difficulties. Iraq is struggling mightily to overcome a strangled economy that is the legacy of Saddam Hussein . A fledgling democracy is in place as it's new form of government, and while the world looks on, the new government has it's hands full battling deep sectarian and ethnic divisions. Other daunting domestic challenges include infrastructure, housing, schools, hospitals, and jobs. As if that is not enough, Iraq faces opposition, violence, significant security threats and corruption. Forces from within and without have a vested interest in destabilization. Meanwhile, Iraq's long-suffering citizens are suffering still, and outside of being rid of Saddam and his thugs, have yet to see anything but the tiniest increments of improvement in their meager existence. All of these and other factors are putting significant downward pressure on the value of the dinar. At the opposite end of the spectrum, Iraq’s economic future is nearly incomprehensible in it’s potential for wealth. Back to history. At the height of it's pre-war prosperity, the dinar's currency exchange rate of $3.60 or so was based on an economy built on $27 per barrel oil. The current price of oil is approaches a value nearly 4 times greater. In terms of production, a 25% annual increase in oil production is forecast every year for next 5-6 years. With current oil production at approximately 3 million barrels (300 million dollars) per day, it is projected to level off at mind-boggling 17 million barrels (1.7 billion dollars) per day by 2017. Common sense would inform us that this knowledge puts significant upward pressure on the dinar's value. So what is the real value of Iraq’s oil-backed dinar? To answer that, the economist who is up to speed on Iraq's history now needs to know what’s currently happening to all of that oil wealth. Billions of dollars are flowing into Iraq as it’s oil flows out. So where is it going? A more revealing question; who is benefitting from a currency exchange rate that is so out of proportion to it’s resources and future wealth? The answer is no mystery. Iraq is up to it’s ears in debt. The people in the unenviable position of making these decisions have made a painful one; to exploit an undervalued currency that temporarily suspends relief for it's citizens. Why? Without attempting to judge or question motives, common sense again informs us that an undervalued dinar puts more money in government coffers, and less in it's citizen's pockets. It is a temporary monetary policy that enables the GOI to maximize it's oil revenues to get out of debt (thus fulfilling Chapter 7 requirements), while also providing necessary capital for meeting the aforementioned challenges of infrastructure, security, etc. Finally, under the guidance and counsel of the U.N., the IMF, the World Bank, a nontrivial amount (?) of this capital is quietly accumulating for the massive reserves required for a revalue of the dinar that more accurately represents Iraq's big picture. There are several compelling reasons for optimism. First, it is in Iraq’s best interest to step up and join the community of responsible nations who observe recognized international protocols with respect to economy, finance, and business. Yes, Iraq has trillions in untapped wealth, but it needs foreign investment to tap it. The needed capital will come only as investors have confidence in a stable Iraq with an effective and equitable government that is fair and even-handed. He is probably in denial, BUT, if your referring to the D.C. video (which I am assuming you are)... One of the first questions asked about, was a R/V of the IQD. His response, to sum it up, is.. "That information is confidential & I can't tell you.." So to summarize the articles we read up, if your looking for an article stating R/V.... Good luck! It likely will not exist other than within an opinion article. So in result, we get an abundance of R/D (LoP) articles. Which confuses & suppresses the masses from further speculation.
