  2. “Boots-on-the-Ground” Info Found From An Outside Source 5/8/10 May 8, 2010 · I see a great deal here and I too am here on the ground in Iraq but I would like to say first of all that while I do speak with the locals, (LN) for short, I rely little on what is told me by them.As some of you have seen I posted a statement on this site a little while ago and was met with very kind words, that I do appreciate. One thing that I do see regularly here is a lot of hype and what I would like to say is what I see and what I hear and feel. First of all I arrived here in 2004 at a time that this country was dead. It was in a totally shattered state. When we would leave the wire fire fights were common to the point of two to three per time spent outside the wire was the norm and not the exception. Roads were almost completely non-existant, people were begging for simple things, for instance water and MRE (Meals Ready to Eat). As time continued things began to improve, for example vehicles began to appear more and more but all was still very bad as a whole. By mid 2005 roads began to become more common but attacks were common as well. Things have gotten better as time goes on and I am sure most of you have little interest in the progression of time here. What most are concerned with here are the standards and what do they mean now. In answer to that concern here is the answer. I travel greatly through central and southern Iraq by air mostly and some convoy as well and see things as they are. Towns and villages are springing up all over within the last three years. I have watched a strong farming culture developing, with vehicle traffic becomming more and more regular with some rather nice vehicles such as Mercades and Volvo cars present. Satalite TV systems are common place items on homes and black-outs have become more and more rare with the passing of time. Banks are opening on the different military bases and local businesses are moving onto those bases as well. On the base that I work we have Oriental, Mediterian and Itialian resturants opening all owned by the local economy which is not bad as I would have thought at first. Shopping malls are being built along with a strong tourism base realitive to what one would expect of a redeveloping country. Finally a financial base is building which is gaining strength. What you are no doubt hearing the dollar is not being used within Iraq so how are they paying for all of this progress….. That is a great question and one that I personally do not have the answer other than to say in the beginning the dollar was the standard and was for a long time but not now. I have not seen any other, and I do mean any other, form of currency being used through the time that I arrived until now but the dollar and the dinar. Make no question, this country is coming to life and becoming stronger by the minute. what will happen in the future I have no idea but there is no comparision from when I got here and now other than to say night and day. I hope that this helps answer questions you may have.

  5. I have read several times and in several places we are waiting for the IMF to set the rate or "pull the trigger ' In doing research for myself I found these documents. Please let me know if I am reading the wrong or if there is something else at work. Federal Reserve Bank of New York Since the 1930s, various international organizations such as the International Monetary Fund (IMF) have been established to help nations coordinate their trade and foreign exchange policies and thereby avoid successive rounds of devaluation and retaliation. The 1976 revision of Article IV of the IMF charter encourages policymakers to avoid "manipulating exchange rates...to gain an unfair competitive advantage over other members." With this revision, the IMF also set forth each member nation's right to freely choose an exchange rate system. US Treasury, Fixed vs Flexible Exchange Rates More specifically, the U.S. Treasury has made four proposals to strengthen IMF surveillance.2 First; the membership of the IMF should clarify the principles of surveillance over exchange rate policies. Guidelines like “protracted large-scale intervention” and “excessive” reserve accumulation have been undefined for too long. Second, Article IV reports must include more substantial and pointed discussions of exchange rate issues – on a consistent basis, but especially in systemically important countries. The IMF – with its wealth of expertise and experience across the globe – is well positioned to discuss exchange rate policies with authorities and advocate change. Third, such engagement is more effective with credible consequences, and that is the “Special Consultation” mechanism. Consultations would be a more useful tool if designed to enable more regular use. Finally, the IMF should develop its techniques for assessing exchange rate behavior and extend this work more to emerging markets. Although the IMF should not be placed in the position of determining what the “right” exchange rate level is, quantitative efforts at exchange rate determination can be helpful in developing a qualitative assessment of a country’s exchange rate policies. IMF Articles of Agreement Section 2 Section 2. General exchange arrangements (a) Each member shall notify the Fund, within thirty days after the date of the second amendment of this Agreement, of the exchange arrangements it intends to apply in fulfillment of its obligations under Section 1 of this Article, and shall notify the Fund promptly of any changes in its exchange arrangements.   6. Thanks EmilyJJJ, I'm not an unemployed deadbeat with skeletons in my closet - I don't need to sell dinar or any other scam to make ends meet, I'm pretty good even without an RV. I don't need to pump a "wealth management" website to collect personal information... eh, I'm not going there. This investment is a lot more to me than the money I'm going to make on it... it's about watching a country emerge from the depths of one of the worst situations the world has ever seen, and becoming a success story that will be talked about for centuries. I truly believe that this will be one for the history books, and those that knock it will be KICKING themselves in the butt!

  7. According to Wickipedia, the rates for capital gains will return to those of the Clinton years after the Bush tax cuts expire at the end of 2010. This would mean that the long term capital gains tax would rise from 0% to 20% on the 15% general taxpayer category. Short term gains would go from 15% to 28% for the 15% category. See Wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Capital_gains_tax_in_the_United_States ) It appears however that if the Obama budget passes, the rate structure for those under 200,000 in income would supposedly remain the same as they are now, under the Bush tax cuts. It may also be that the senate may continue the Bush tax cuts till 2012 anyway because of the economy. A second issue of greater significance is the question of when the de facto capital gains holding period terminates. Some assert that this period depends on your actual trade-in date, leaving you the option to retain the dinars til the long term rate triggers while others assert the holding period terminates effectively when the RV takes place forcing you potentially into short term tax treatment. The determination could be worth in the millions to some of us. Opinions from those who know the answer would be very helpful at this time. Some ideas are new. Many others were made last year, but not enacted by Congress. Here's a breakdown of some of Obama's key proposals for 2011 and beyond that would affect individuals: High-income households Let tax cuts expire: The 2001 and 2003 Bush tax cuts are scheduled to expire by 2011. Obama is sticking to his call to let those tax cuts expire for high-income households ($200,000 for individuals; $250,000 for families). The White House estimates close to $700 billion would be raised over 10 years. This provision would raise the top two individual income tax rates to where they were in 2001, before passage of the Bush tax cuts. The 33% bracket would become 36%. And the 35% bracket would rise to 39.6%. In addition, the long-term capital gains tax rate would increase to 20%, up from 15% currently. The provision would also reinstate so-called phaseouts for high-income households, which would essentially reduce their eligibility for a host of personal exemptions. The House may be amenable to letting the tax cuts expire in 2011 for wealthier Americans. So deductions will be worth less to a high-income tax filer under the president's proposal. Capping itemized deductions is a proposal he made last year and it went nowhere. That's in part because many in Congress said it would seriously curb charitable giving, even though that is not a foregone conclusion. If the measure gains any traction this year, it's likely Congress would limit the cap to only certain types of deductions, thereby muting its revenue-raising effect. The White House estimates that capping the rate on deductions could raise $291 billion over 10 years. Obama maps routes to lower deficits Keep the estate tax: The president's budget assumes the estate tax will be made permanent at a $3.5 million exemption level per person and a top rate of 45% on taxable estates. That's much more generous than current law, which calls for a $1 million exemption level and a 55% top rate starting in 2011. But it's less generous than a proposal getting bipartisan support in the Senate. The Senate proposal would institute a $5 million exemption level per person and a top rate of 35%. Altering the estate tax to the levels Obama has proposed would increase the deficit by $262 billion over 10 years. Raise taxes on investment fund manager profits: Obama would like to tax the portion of profits paid to managers of hedge funds and private equity funds as ordinary income rather than as a capital gain. That would subject it to much higher tax rates than the 15% capital gains rate currently imposed. The White House estimates the measure would raise $24 billion over 10 years. This is a carryover proposal from last year. While Congress hasn't acted on it yet, there's a fair chance they may move on it in the next year, since lawmakers will be looking for ways to pay for other costly legislation they'd like to pass. Eliminate capital gains tax on small business stock: There are currently capital gains tax breaks in place for investors in small businesses, defined as companies with gross assets of $50 million or less. But the president is proposing to eliminate the capital gains tax altogether on stock in small businesses held for at least five years. The measure would only apply to stock acquired after Feb. 17, 2009. The cost of the president's proposal is an estimated $8.1 billion over 10 years. Lower and middle income households Make tax cuts permanent: The president's budget assumes all the 2001 and 2003 tax cuts will be made permanent for everyone making less than $200,000 ($250,000 for couples), which is the majority of American households. That means, among other things, that today's rates on income tax, capital gains and dividends would remain the same. It's an expensive proposition, however, costing federal coffers nearly $2 trillion over 10 years. Permanently protect the middle class from the "wealth" tax: The administration assumes in the president's budget that Congress will permanently change the parameters of the Alternative Minimum Tax (AMT). That would protect tens of millions of middle-income families from having to pay the tax, which was originally intended only for the highest earners. The cost of such a provision is close to $660 billion over 10 years. Extend the Make Work Pay credit: The president's 2011 budget calls for a one-year extension of the stimulus-created tax credit that adds a few dollars to workers' paychecks every pay period. The extension is estimated to boost the deficit by $61.2 billion over 10 years. Calling for just a one-year extension is a switch from Obama's call to make the credit permanent last year. The hope may still be that the credit is renewed every year -- as many tax breaks are. But by only calling for a one-year extension, the impact on the 10-year deficit appears to be less. Permanently expand a low-income tax credit: The stimulus package temporarily expanded the Earned Income Tax Credit for very low-income families with three or more children. The expansion meant such families could claim a credit equal to 45% of their qualifying earnings, up from 40%, so that they could get a maximum credit of $5,657. President Obama wants to make that increase permanent at an estimated cost of $15.2 billion over 10 years. Expand child-care tax credit: Under the president's budget, families making less than $85,000 would be able to claim nearly double the child and dependent care tax credit for which they currently qualify. The White House estimates the increase will raise the deficit by $12.6 billion over 10 years. Permanently extend the American Opportunity Tax Credit: Created under stimulus legislation, the American Opportunity Tax Credit expanded for 2009 and 2010 the existing Hope Scholarship tax credit and made it partially refundable -- meaning that a tax filer could get money back even if it meant he or she would be getting back more from Uncle Sam than paid in federal income tax. The credit is worth up to $2,500 for higher education expenses, up from $1,800 previously. The president would like to make the measure permanent, adding to the deficit by $75.4 billion over 10 years. Except for one semester in college when jobs were scarce and a six-month period when I was between jobs, but job-hunting every day, I've worked, hard, since I was 18. Despite some health challenges, I still put in 50-hour weeks, and haven't called in sick in seven or eight years. I make a good salary, but I didn't inherit my job or my income, and I worked to get where I am. Given the economy, there's no retirement in sight, and I'm tired. Very tired. I'm tired of being told that I have to "spread the wealth" to people who don't have my work ethic. I'm tired of being told the government will take the money I earned, by force if necessary, and give it to people too lazy to earn it. I'm tired of being told that I have to pay more taxes to "keep people in their homes." Sure, if they lost their jobs or got sick, I'm willing to help. But if they bought McMansions at three times the price of our paid-off, $250,000 condo, on one-third of my salary, then let the left-wing Congress-critters who passed Fannie and Freddie and the Community Reinvestment Act that created the bubble help them with their own money. I'm tired of being told how bad America is by left-wing millionaires like Michael Moore, George Soros and Hollywood entertainers who live in luxury because of the opportunities America offers. In thirty years, if they get their way, the United States will have the economy of Zimbabwe , the freedom of the press of China , the crime and violence of Mexico , the tolerance for Christian people of Iran , and the freedom of speech of Venezuela. I'm tired of being told that Islam is a "Religion of Peace," when every day I can read dozens of stories of Muslim men killing their sisters, wives and daughters for their family "honor"; of Muslims rioting over some slight offense; of Muslims murdering Christian and Jews because they aren't "believers"; of Muslims burning schools for girls; of Muslims stoning teenage rape victims to death for "adultery"; of Muslims mutilating the genitals of little girls; all in the name of Allah, because the Qur'an and Shari'a law tells them to. I'm tired of being told that "race doesn't matter" in the post-racial world of Obama, when it's all that matters in Affirmative Action jobs, lower college admission and graduation standards for minorities (harming them the most), government contract set-asides, tolerance for the ghetto culture of violence and fatherless children that hurts minorities more than anyone, and in the appointment of U.S. Senators from Illinois. I think it's very cool that we have a black president and that a black child is doing her homework at the desk where Lincoln wrote the Emancipation Proclamation. I just wish the black president was Condi Rice, or someone who believes more in freedom and the individual and less arrogantly of an all-knowing government. I'm tired of a news media that thinks Bush's fundraising and inaugural expenses were obscene, but that think Obama's, at triple the cost, were wonderful; that thinks Bush exercising daily was a waste of presidential time, but Obama exercising is a great example for the public to control weight and stress; that picked over every line of Bush's military records, but never demanded that Kerry release his; that slammed Palin, with two years as governor, for being too inexperienced for VP, but touted Obama with three years as senator as potentially the best president ever. Wonder why people are dropping their subscriptions or switching to Fox News? Get a clue. I didn't vote for Bush in 2000, but the media and Kerry drove me to his camp in 2004. I'm tired of being told that out of "tolerance for other cultures" we must let Saudi Arabia use our oil money to fund mosques and Madrassa Islamic Schools to preach hate in America, while no American group is allowed to fund a church, synagogue or religious school in Saudi Arabia to teach love and tolerance. I'm tired of being told I must lower my living standard to fight Global Warming, which no one is allowed to debate. My wife and I live in a two-bedroom apartment and carpool together five miles to our jobs. We also own a three-bedroom condo where our daughter and granddaughter live. Our carbon footprint is about 5% of Al Gore's, and if you're greener than Gore, you're green enough. I'm tired of being told that drug addicts have a disease, and I must help support and treat them, and pay for the damage they do. Did a giant germ rush out of a dark alley, grab them, and stuff white powder up their noses while they tried to fight it off? I don't think *** people choose to be ***, but I damn sure think druggies chose to take drugs. And I'm tired of harassment from cool people treating me like a freak when I tell them I never tried marijuana. I'm tired of illegal aliens being called "undocumented workers," especially the ones who aren't working, but are living on Welfare or crime. What's next? Calling drug dealers, "Undocumented Pharmacists"? And, no, I'm not against Hispanics. Most of them are Catholic, and it's been a few hundred years since Catholics wanted to kill me for my religion. I'm willing to fast track for citizenship any Hispanic person, who can speak English, doesn't have a criminal record and who is self-supporting without family on Welfare, or who serves honorably for three years in our military....those are the citizens we need. I'm tired of latte liberals and journalists, who would never wear the uniform of the Republic themselves, or let their entitlement-handicapped kids near a recruiting station, trashing our military. They and their kids can sit at home, never having to make split-second decisions under life and death circumstances, and bad mouth better people than themselves. Do bad things happen in war? You bet. Do our troops sometimes misbehave? Sure. Does this compare with the atrocities that were the policy of our enemies for the last fifty years and still are? Not even close. So here's the deal. I'll let myself be subjected to all the humiliation and abuse that was heaped on terrorists at Abu Ghraib or Gitmo, and the critics can let themselves be subject to captivity by the Muslims, who tortured and beheaded Daniel Pearl in Pakistan, or the Muslims who tortured and murdered Marine Lt. Col. William Higgins in Lebanon, or the Muslims who ran the blood-spattered Al Qaeda torture rooms our troops found in Iraq, or the Muslims who cut off the heads of schoolgirls in Indonesia, because the girls were Christian. Then we'll compare notes. British and American soldiers are the only troops in history that civilians came to for help and handouts, instead of hiding from in fear. I'm tired of people telling me that their Party has a corner on virtue and the other Party has a corner on corruption. Read the papers; bums are bipartisan. And I'm tired of people telling me we need bipartisanship. I live in Illinois, where the "Illinois Combine" of Democrats has worked to loot the public for years. Not to mention the tax cheats in Obama's Cabinet. I'm tired of hearing wealthy athletes, entertainers and politicians of both parties talking about innocent mistakes, stupid mistakes or youthful mistakes, when we all know they think their only mistake was getting caught. I'm tired of people with a sense of entitlement, rich or poor. Speaking of poor--I'm tired of hearing people with air-conditioned homes, color TVs and two cars called poor. The majority of Americans didn't have that in 1970, but we didn't know we were "poor." The poverty pimps have to keep changing the definition of poor to keep the dollars flowing. I'm real tired of people who don't take responsibility for their lives and actions. I'm tired of hearing them blame the government, or discrimination or big-whatever for their problems. Yes, I'm damn tired. But I'm also glad to be 63. Because, mostly, I'm not going to have to see the world these people are making. I'm just sorry for my granddaughter. Robert A. For the most part is almost always current. CIA - The World Factbook - Iraq Scroll down to the below listings underneath "Economy" and you will see how much money they have out there. Now I am no expert but in comparison to the other countries it is way under value IMO so I see no issues whats so ever about a strong RV or a RI to put it where it should be up in the ranks. My theory is that the global overlords who own virtually all of the communications media in the world, along with the economies of every country in the world want to keep it quiet and can dictate what will and will not be broadcast - at the risk of the broadcaster being discredited, discharged and made to disappear. Then, we keep hearing dates from chat rooms when the Iraqi dinar, in particular, is going to reval. For many investors in the dinar, it's become a nightmarish series of disappointments for years. Such unfulfilled scenarios only help the pumpers, tauters, con artists and peddlers to move more dinars for U.S. dollars, a portion of which probably go into the pockets of the Iraqi "uncorrupted" leaders. I, for one, won't be surprised if Iraq never revals the dinar as long as its so called "kahunas" can continue to ride the apparent "U.S. government gravy train" provided by and paid for by the U.S. taxpayers with tax money that Obama gave away to the "incorruptible financial constituents on Wall Street because they just had a couple of bad years!" I won't be surprised if the Iraqi dinar is not revalued very soon or is even considered to be a "major currency" in the 2010 Operational Rates of Exchange you referred to above. Is it?   24. Barbann, This recipe is from a lodge in Alaska named the "Tree Tops Fishing Lodge" it is fantastic. Grilled Salmon: Directions: Preheat the Grill on High Leave skin on filets – Wash and Pat Dry Place 3 sheets of foil on counter and fold up the sides like a boat – Place filets on foil Sprinkle Johnny’s Salt Seasoning, Garlic Salt, Onion Salt, Lemon Pepper & Mrs. Dash on the Salmon. (Garlic Powder and Onion Powder may be substituted) In a measuring cup mix ¼ cup Soy Sauce – ¼ cup butter – Garlic Salt and heat in the microwave until the butter has melted – stir and pour over the filets. Place the boat on the hot grill and cook for approximately 10 – 15 Minutes (Until the juices come to the top) To Serve take a thin spatula and gently separate the skin and place on a warm platter and Serve. It is absolutely delicious. Enjoy

I don't know how everybody else feels about it, but to me I think Hispanic people in this country, legally or illegally, made a huge public relations mistake with their recent demonstrations. I don't blame anybody in the world for wanting to come to the United States of America , as it is a truly wonderful place. But when the first thing you do when you set foot on American soil is illegal it is flat out wrong and I don't care how many lala land left heads come out of the woodwork and start trying to give me sensitivity lessons. I don't need sensitivity lessons, in fact I don't have any-thing against Mexicans! I just have something against criminals and anybody who comes into this country illegally is a criminal and if you don't believe it try coming into America from a foreign country without a passport and see how far you get. What disturbs me about the demonstrations is that it's tanta-mount to saying, "I am going to come into your country even if it means breaking your laws and there's nothing you can do about it." It's an "in your face" action and speaking just for me, I don't like it one little bit and if there were a half dozen pairs of gonads in Washington bigger than English peas it wouldn't be happening. Where are you, you bunch of lily livered, pantywaist, forked tongued, sorry excuses for defenders of The Constitution? Have you been drinking the water out of the Potomac again? And even if you pass a bill on immigration it will probably be so pork laden and watered down that it won't mean anything anyway Besides, what good is another law going to do when you won't enforce the ones on the books now? And what ever happened to the polls, guys? I thought you folks were the quintessential finger wetters. Well you sure ain't paying any attention to the polls this time because somewhere around eighty percent of Americans want some thing done about this mess, and mess it is and getting bigger everyday. This is no longer a problem, it is a dilemma and headed for being a tragedy. Do you honestly think that what happened in France with the Muslims can't happen here when the businesses who hire these people finally run out of jobs and a few million disillusioned Hispanics take to the streets? If you, Mr. President, Congressmen and Senators, knuckle under on this and refuse to do something meaningful it means that you care nothing for the kind of country your children and grand-children will inherit. But I guess that doesn't matter as long as you get re-elected. Shame on you. One of the big problems in America today is that if you have the nerve to say anything derogatory about any group of people (except Christians) you are going to be screamed at by the media and called a racist, a bigot and anything else they can think of to call you Well I've been pounded by the media before and I'm still rockin' and rollin' and when it comes to speaking the truth I fear not. And the truth is that the gutless, gonadless, milksop politicians are just about to sell out the United States of America because they don't have the intestinal fortitude to stand up to face reality. And reality is that we would never allow any other group of people to have 12 million illegal in this country and turn around and say, "Oh it's ok, ya'll can stay here if you'll just allow us to slap your wrist." And I know that some of you who read this column are saying "Well what's wrong with that?" I'll tell you what's wrong with it. These people could be from Mars as far as we know. We don't know who they are, where they are or what they're up to and the way the Congress is going we're not going to. Does this make sense? Labor force you say? We already subsidize corporate agriculture as it is, must we subsidize their labor as well? If these people were from Haiti would we be so fast to turn a blind eye to them or if they were from Somalia or Afghanistan ? I think not. All the media shows us are pictures of hard working Hispanics who have crossed the border just to try to better their life. They don't show you pictures of the Feds rounding up members of MS 13, the violent gang who came across the same way the decent folks did. They don't tell you about the living conditions of the Mexican illegal some fat cat hired to pick his crop. I want to make two predictions. No. 1: This situation is going to grow and fester until it erupts in violence on our streets while the wimps in Washington drag their toes in the dirt and try to figure how many tons of political hay they can make to the acre. No 2: Somebody is going to cross that border with some kind of weapon of mass destruction and set it off in a major American city after which there will be a backlash such as this country has never experienced and the Capitol building in Washington will probably tilt as Congressmen and Senators rush to the other side of the issue. I don't know about you but I would love to see just one major politician stand up and say, "I don't care who I make mad and I don't care how many votes I lose, this is a desperate situation and I'm going to lead the fight to get it straightened out." I don't blame anybody for wanting to come to America , but if you don't respect our immigration laws why should you respect any others? Well if nothing else it did give them time to make these deals and perhaps now that they are at least back in the country they are vying to lead something will transpire in the not to distant future, regarding the forming of an Iraqi government anyway. My mom is scheduled for some outpatient surgery on Tuesday... they called today and because she is in another state and considered to be out of her area where doctors are concerned... her Medicare Supplemental will only pay 70%. They have absolutely NO money. This 30% totals $834. I know this doesn't sound like much to some people... But it's more than 1/2 of what they get a month from SS... She needs to have a Stapedectomy on her ear. She had one ear done 35 years ago and now needs the other ear done. Her hearing loss is severe, and this is depressing for her because she cannot hear anyone speaking around her. This surgery will restore her hearing and allow her to continue her work and counseling for God. I made an appointment with my ear doctor (I had this surgery 3 years ago) and we were very excited to hear he could get her hearing back. It's already scheduled for this Tuesday, and we are believing it will be taken care of by God. Take this information into your prayer closet, ask God to bless this couple... and ask him if you should be part of that blessing..... Each time we present on of these cases...   35. This is not a Report but what I have seen and experienced in Iraq, then as a soldier (27 years retired) three OIF combat tours and now as a contractor supporting those I once was! And Good Morning too, from Iraq! I have so…… much I could share but little time with the current drawdown of US Forces. Here are a couple short stories that will solidify your investment decisions in regards to purchasing dinar, ISX and Al Warka. On 5 Jan 10, I opened an Al Warka count at branch 717, note: the branch is physically located on a Forward Operation Base (FOB). In opening my account I was apprehensive, curious and excited all at the same time. It was unlike any current US bank where you walk in, fill out the required paperwork ~ walk out with temporary checks in hand, three working days later you receive a debit card ~ and you’re off to the mall baby! I can honestly say there was apprehension when hand over several thousand USD to and unknown individual knowing he didn’t speak English and my Arabic sucks! When I opened my accounts Saving/Checking IQD and USD the deposit was annotated by hand in a small blue ledger and given to me along with deposit receipts. All deposit or withdrawals are initialed by the branch manager and the “official” Warka stamp is placed on every receipt. When opening my account I requested a Warka Debit Card ($5 cost) and Warka e-Bank ($15 cost). In the back of my mind, I’m thinking “If I were investing with Bernard Madoff my money would be safer!” When opening my accounts. I was told both my Warka Debit Card and e-Banking pin would be sent to the branch in 7 – 10 days. Well……5 weeks later I received my Warka Debit Card and pin #. I received my e-Banking instructions and pin via. email 2 weeks after that. The first thing I’m thinking is what good is this Warka Debit Card if I’m not in Iraq or can’t access a De La Rue machine. Note: all currency in my Warka account is IQD. For checks and balances I decided to purchase merchandize from AAFES using my Warka Debit Card ~ well it worked! The purchase when thought just like my Wells Fargo debit card. I will be testing my Warka Debit Card ~ internet purchase and when CONUS in about 7 weeks. I will keep everyone posted, if it works out side of Iraq. Additional checks and balance, when initially logging on to my online Warka e-Bank and accessing my accounts I noticed 5,580,000 IQR missing or not deposited in my savings account. I immediately when to the Warka Bank with all my receipts and surprisingly the correction was made in one day. Surprised at first, but there have been several occasions when I’m making a deposit and US Soldiers from the base finance company are exchanging USD for IQD. The GOI is forcing everyone to use IQD instead of USD. Why would Iraq force it’s currency to be circulated?  I will talk about ISX on later post. Economically – Being unlucky to convoy and lucky to fly to various locations with in Iraq. The economic growth is mind boggling! The construction to rebuild AND build an infrastructure of highway networks, rail networks and international travel is well underway. You truly have to see it to believe it. Also, I will keep everyone posted on Iraqi First Initiative (IFI). The IFI is the gradual replacement of contractors with Iraqi citizens as all military bases are turned over to Government of Iraq (GOI). LINK end of the line for allawi niqash | Muhammad Ashour | thu 06 may 10 After a month of painful negotiation, described by Prime Minister, Nouri al-Maliki as ‘sterile’, a new coalition formed of the State of Law list and Iraqi National Coalition is finally expected to redraw Iraq’s political map and allow the country to move forward politically. The coalition of the two lists forms the largest parliamentary bloc ever in Iraq, with the two lists occupying 159 of the 325 parliamentary seats. The formation of the coalition, announce on 4 May, was unexpected and put an end to the constant predictions and counter-predictions over the shape of the new parliamentary bloc that will form the next Iraqi government. The Kurds have also expressed their willingness to join the coalition, complicating matters for and putting more pressure on Iraqiya, whose leader, Iyad Allawi, will be forced to abandon his dream of becoming Prime Minister and settle for a lower-ranking ministerial portfolio. Allawi recently called upon the UN Security Council to intervene as the various blocs squabbled and bickered and got nowhere with forming a governing coalition. It is believed that it was this step that pushed the State of Law and the National Coalition together, as both a feared a repeat of the 2004 situation when Allawi took power after the UN stepped in to form the government. This prospect convinced the National Coalition that they should abandon their demand to agree on the name of the new Prime Minister before negotiating on the formation of a coalition. Faleh al-Faysd, a leading member of the National Coalition was quick to play down these claims. “The two parties were very close to each other right from the beginning,” he said. “The Iraqiya list’s call upon the Security Council to intervene in Iraq’s affairs has nothing to do with the formation of the coalition.” Ali al-Adeeb, of the State of Law bloc, said the formation of the new coalition was “an important step towards the formation of the government and towards ending the country’s current crisis.” He criticised those who accused the coalition of being based on sectarian grounds, adding that the constitution “has guaranteed political blocs’ right to form coalitions in order to reach their political aims. However, some parties insist on accusing others with sectarianism while they themselves practice it.” “The two blocs were one bloc in the last parliament and during the two election rounds that took place in Iraq in the past years. They will have the exclusive right to select the new prime minister from among members of the two blocs because they were able to gather 50% of the parliament seats,” said Adeeb, who headed the State of Law negotiation delegation. Al-Adeeb, whose name was once circulated as a potential alternative Prime Minister to Nouri al-Maliki, stressed that Iraqiya would definitely be invited to participate in the new coalition. “It is the Sunni expression and it has presence in 5 provinces with Sunni majority,” he said. He continued to express optimism about the length of time it will take to form a new government. “The coalition map is now much clearer and the coming days will allow parties to reach agreements on all their outstanding issues. This should lead to a speedy formation of the new government.” The Kurdistan bloc, which recently met in Erbil to unify their stance on parliamentary alliances, should prove a key supporter of the new coalition, as Kurds hope to install Jalal al-Talabani in the post of President. To do so, they need the support 217 of the 325 parliament members. If all the Kurds vote together alongside the State of Law and National Coalition, they will be just one seat short of the majority needed to approve Talabani’s Presidency. The Kurdish parties have formed the backbone of Iraqi political alliances since the outset and sent a clear signal to the new coalition expressing their readiness to rejoin on 14 April. President Talabani visited his former political opponent, Ibrahim al-Jaafari, and told him that the Kurds were waiting for the Shia to name their candidate for Prime Minister, so they can support the nomination. Talabani was criticised for his words, especially by members of the Iraqiya list, but many observers believe his intention was to speed up the formation of a political alliance following the elections. While Iyad Allawi heads a secular list made-up of a mix of Sunni and Shia politicians, his background caused many Shia to fear that he could be a ‘Trojan Horse’, bringing Sunnis back to power in Iraq. The new coalition, which is clearly Shia in identity, is a clear counter against this prospect. One of the biggest surprises is the abandonment by the Sadrists, who won 40 of the National Coalition’s 70 seats, of its hardline stance on cooperation with Maliki. However, with international intervention looming and another potential Allawi-headed UN-mandated government, divided on sectarian and ethnic lines, rather than on share of the popular vote, it is thought the Sadrists saw the need to compromise to maintain a strong share of important ministerial portfolios. Nothing detailed was released regarding talks held between Ibrahim al-Jaafari, Jamal Jafar and Moqtada al-Sadr in Iran but they only began when Allawi threatened the internationalisation of the electoral dispute. The prospect of complete exclusion from a salvation government, as happened in 2004, meant the Sadrists had to accept membership of a coalition they had previously promised not to join.

"The marjaiyah has the final say in solving all the disputes between the two sides and its directives and guidance are binding," the agreement said, referring to the religious Shiite leadership based in the holy city of Najaf. The need to bring in the highest religious authorities of Iraq's Shiites is a reflection of the deep distrust between the two rival blocs, but it would also give a government formed by the coalition an overtly religious character. Neighboring Iran, a Shiite theocracy where clerics have the final word on all matters of state, carries great influence with both groups and has long pushed for such an alliance. The provision only applies to the alliance, not officially to any new government. But if the Shiite alliance dominates the next government, clerics would potentially have a direct say in policy. The merger also means that the top vote-getter in the election, secular Shiite Ayad Allawi's Iraqiya list, which received strong Sunni backing, will be squeezed out of the process — angering his supporters. Besides the Sunnis, the agreement might also alienate Kurds and other factions, making it difficult to form an inclusive government for the fragmented country. "The fact that there is an official role for the clerical establishment is going to create a major problem," said Marina Ottaway, director of the Middle East program at the Washington-based Carnegie Endowment for International Peace. "This is an agreement that risks making Sunnis and Kurds second-class citizens." Ahmed Chalabi, a prominent Shiite politician whose faulty intelligence was used by Washington to help justify the U.S.-led invasion, was one of the officials who signed the 11-point agreement. He played down any idea that this would amount to a religious stamp on government decisions, partly, he said, because the clerical leadership has already indicated their reluctance to play a big role in Iraqi politics. "It is an example of the level of respect that all these political parties and groups have for the marjaiyah," he said. "The marjaiyah doesn't want to get involved in this." Chalabi said Iraq's other political groups should be reassured by the fact that Grand Ayatollah Ali al-Sistani — the revered Shiite cleric in Iraq who is essentially the head of the marjaiyah — has said no political groups should be excluded from the political process. Together the new Shiite alliance will have 159 seats, just four shy of the majority needed in the 325-member parliament to form a government. In an interview Wednesday, before the details of the agreement were revealed, U.S. Ambassador Christopher Hill maintained that "Sunnis have to be a part of the political process." "You cannot run Iraq without having significant Sunni participation," he told the AP. The dominant group under former leader Saddam Hussein, Iraq's Sunni Arabs have had little power since the 2003 U.S.-led invasion ushered in a succession of Shiite- and Kurdish-dominated governments. For years, Sunnis swelled the ranks of a powerful insurgency that threw the country into turmoil, and the fear is that alienating them from the political process now could start the fighting anew. Abdul-Ilah Kazim, a Sunni lawmaker with the Iraqiya list, rejected the political influence of the Shiite clerics in the new alliance. "There is a sectarian flavor to this one-sect agreement from start to finish and certainly all the world and Iraqi people will get its message," he said. The Kurdish bloc, which holds 43 seats in parliament, has — at least publicly — been cautious about joining the Shiite coalition, citing the need for a broader government. "As a Kurdish coalition, we are leaning toward forming a national unity government that includes all the main four winning blocs," said Fadhil Miran, an aide to Kurdish President Massoud Barzani. "We do not want a sectarian government, and we do not want the Iraqiya list to be excluded." Al-Sistani is the most revered religious figure among Shiites in Iraq — and many abroad — and while he usually works behind the scenes, he has played a major role in ensuring the unity and domination of the Shiites amid the turmoil after Saddam's fall. But he has also shunned a public role and he opposes an Iranian-style government that would give direct rule to clerics. The reference to clerics in the agreement was designed to give people in the new alliance a level of comfort that there was a higher authority to resolve disputes, Chalabi said. In fact, most of the provisions in the agreement appear designed to limit the power of the prime minister. The largest group within the Iraqi National Alliance, followers of radical cleric Muqtada al-Sadr, want to scale back the powers al-Maliki has built up during his premiership. Those familiar with the meetings said many of the conditions came from the Sadrists, who were deeply unhappy with al-Maliki, who ordered a U.S.-Iraqi crackdown on Shiite militias in 2008. "We are trying to avoid the mistakes of the past that led to the collapse of the former coalition and that made some people make unilateral decisions regarding the country," explained Ameer Taher al-Kinani, a Sadrist official, in an apparent reference to al-Maliki. The provisions require the prime minister to consult on all decisions with members of the alliance and prohibit him from trying to form his own electoral list. Policy issues are also to be determined by committees from each of the Shiite blocs, further limiting the premier's role.   41. Arizona State Senator Sylvia Allen. I'm Arizona State Senator Sylvia Allen. I want to explain SB 1070 which I voted for and was just signed by Governor Jan Brewer. Rancher Rob Krantz was murdered by the drug cartel on his ranch a month ago. I participated in a senate hearing two weeks ago on the border violence, here is just some of the highlights from those who testified. The people who live within 60 to 80 miles of the Arizona/Mexico Border have for years been terrorized and have pleaded for help to stop the daily invasion of humans who cross their property . One Rancher testified that 300 to 1200 people a DAY come across his ranch vandalizing his property, stealing his vehicles and property, cutting down his fences, and leaving trash. In the last two years he has found 17 dead bodies and two Koran bibles. Another rancher testified that daily drugs are brought across his ranch in a military operation. A point man with a machine gun goes in front, 1/2 mile behind are the guards fully armed, 1/2 mile behind them are the drugs, behind the drugs 1/2 mile are more guards. These people are violent and they will kill anyone who gets in the way. This was not the only rancher we heard that day that talked about the drug trains. One man told of two illegal's who came upon his property one shot in the back and the other in the arm by the drug runners who had forced them to carry the drugs and then shot them. Daily they listen to gun fire during the night it is not safe to leave his family alone on the ranch and they can't leave the ranch for fear of nothing being left when they come back. The border patrol is not on the border. They have set up 60 miles away with check points that do nothing to stop the invasion. They are not allowed to use force in stopping anyone who is entering. They run around chasing them, if they get their hands on them then they can take them back across the border. Federal prisons have over 35% illegal's and 20% of Arizona prisons are filled with illegal's. In the last few years 80% of our law enforcement that have been killed or wounded have been by an illegal. The majority of people coming now are people we need to be worried about. The ranchers told us that they have seen a change in the people coming they are not just those who are looking for work and a better life. The Federal Government has refused for years to do anything to help the border states . We have been over run and once they are here we have the burden of funding state services that they use. Education cost have been over a billion dollars. The healthcare cost billions of dollars. Our State is broke, $3.5 billion deficit and we have many serious decisions to make. One is that we do not have the money to care for any who are not here legally. It has to stop. The border can be secured. We have the technology we have the ability to stop this invasion. We must know who is coming and they must come in an organized manner legally so that we can assimilate them into our population and protect the sovereignty of our country. We are a nation of laws. We have a responsibility to protect our citizens and to protect the integrity of our country and the government which we live under. I would give amnesty today to many, but here is the problem, we dare not do this until the Border is secure. It will do no good to forgive them because thousands will come behind them and we will be over run to the point that there will no longer be the United States of America but a North American Union of open borders. I ask you what form of government will we live under? How long will it be before we will be just like Mexico , Canada or any of the other Central American or South American countries? We have already lost our language, everything must be printed in Spanish also. We have already lost our history it is no longer taught in our schools. And we have lost our borders. The leftist media has distorted what SB 1070 will do. It is not going to set up a Nazi Germany . Are you kidding. The ACLU and the leftist courts will do everything to protect those who are here illegally, but it was an effort to try and stop illegal's from setting up businesses, and employment, and receiving state services and give the ability to local law enforcement when there is probable cause like a traffic stop to determine if they are here legally. Federal law is very clear if you are here on a visa you must have your papers on you at all times. That is the law. In Arizona all you need to show you are a legal citizen is a driver license, MVD identification card, Native American Card, or a Military ID. This is what you need to vote, get a hunting license, etc.. So nothing new has been added to this law. No one is going to be stopped walking down the street etc... The Socialist who are in power in DC are angry because we dare try and do something and that something the Socialist wants us to do is just let them come. They want the "Transformation" to continue. Maybe it is too late to save America . Maybe we are not worthy of freedom anymore. But as an elected official I must try to do what I can to protect our Constitutional Republic . Living in America is not a right just because you can walk across the border. Being an American is a responsibility and it comes by respecting and upholding the Constitution the law of our land which says what you must do to be a citizen of this country. Freedom is not free.

It is a wonderful personal experience and I appreciate Ronin sharing this with us ... we can all learn a few tips from the adventure he and his father had. I love to hear about such wonderful things happening to others ... and I hope we all get to experience this with our dinars! Ronin and his dad took a chance then, just like we all are now!
