Nice Adam You can stand with your nose 6 inches from a painting and you will only understand and see a very small piece of the painting. Stand back and you will appreciate the whole painting. The best things in life RV yak -

I do believe the people of Iraq need to be compensated for all their years of suffering wars and poverty, and corrupt leaders need to be removed, but compensation can be achieved in many ways. Improved infrastructure, higher wages, lower inflation. lowered unemployment. Those sort of things. All I'm saying is that if a lot of Dinars are still floating around in country and a significant RV takes place it could be destabilizing. That's not a good thing. If there are not a lot of Dinar floating around and a healthy RV takes place, people will be happy as their currency starts to regain a respected place on the world stage.

WOW... I've been thinking about this for a long time. I've always held the belief that at some point in time the amount of Iraqi Dinars would start to dry up, (in country). Many of us know that the US dollar is the currency currently being used on the street in Iraq. If the CBI was to do an RV, whether it be .10 or 1.00 it could be de-stabilizing to the economy, if too many dinars were still floating around, (in country). The GOI does not want large swaths of Iraqi citizens to be instantly wealthy. Money is power and all governments know this. IMHO it is looking like the majority of the Dinars have been removed from the street. I also think new bank notes have been printed without the three zeros. An RV could now take place without de-stabilizing the economy. The majority of real winners would be those who hold Dinars outside of the country. One caveat is that the CBI and the BIS could impose price restrictions on converting the Dinars we hold. Hope all are well. The best things in life RV. yak

I seem to recall Iraq having to borrow money from the IMF to keep the country afloat, back when the price of oil tanked. If this was true, has Iraq repaid those funds ? TIA The best things in life RV yak

Thanks for the replies to my questions. I thought the HCL was part of the 2021 budget and that the budget was passed, thus also passing the HCL as well. I know that agreed upon funds started flowing to the Kurds but not if the HCL was passed for sure. I had to focus on other issues for awhile. I can only hope the price of oil is helping Iraq get past issues under control. The best things in life RV yak

Merry Christmas and Holidaze wishes to all. I have not been here much in some time and was not a major contributor to past conversations. However I have enjoyed the facts, links and opinions from many over the years. I still don't know if Erbil was ever ratified and posted to the "Gazzette" ?? I hope somebody can enlighten me on that. But something occurred to me just the other day. That it was not specifically the Erbil agreement that was holding up any possibility of an RV or change in the exchange rate of the Iraqi Dinar but the reparation payments to Kuwait. Perhaps Iraq needed to get past that and then restock the bank account using the additional dollars provided with the higher price of oil ? I know I've been away but going through 10,000 posts is not something I want to do. All updates and opinions greatly appreciated. The best things in life RV yak.

Former Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki led a negotiating delegation to engage with the Kurdish forces in Erbil over the future of the political process and the general outlines of the features of the new government, followed by negotiations with the Sunni forces led by the leader of the State Forces Alliance, Haider al-Abadi. Maliki is still alive and farking things up to appease Iran....???? Okie Dokie... The best things in life RV yak.

US forces ‘to start withdrawing from 15 bases in Iraq’

Groundhog Day.... The US and Iraq have been down this road before. The US pulled out and ISIS wrecked havoc in Iraq, and the US had to come back in and save the day...AGAIN !! ISIS was partially funded by Iran...DUH,!!!... even though certain segments of Iran's military helped to defeat ISIS. Iran is playing both sides of the equation in an attempt to take over Iraq. Iran has wanted to own and control Iraq for over 50 years.... Have we all forgotten the Iran/Iraq wars ? The more things change the more they stay the same... The best things in life RV. yak.
