Yeah, you could drink it through a Flex Straw! Right about now, I am opting for the paper bag. Cheers!

Wonder what the people who bashed her last week and said she did not know what she was talking about think this week.......

Most likely thinking the same thing.....

They pulled in a quarter of a trillion dinar from the banks participating in the auctions to stabilize the exchange rate.....taking dinar out of the hands of the banks and technically out of it being a liability allowed the dinar to appreciate.....

And when things stabilize, the dinar will go right back out into those banks....its just a repeated cycle...

When the CBI pulls in dinar, its not taking it out of the hands of the citizens and being destroyed.....would be nice though.....

"Repeated cycle"   easier said then done....what are they really doing/using the Dinar for??? & I find it hard to believe that they could truly manipulate the exchange rate on a daily basis....oh but wait.....I know how ;) .....it's because there must be a "manageable" amount in circulation :D

Ok...some yak ponderings..( don't step in them).....

with the rate at which the CBI is buying back Dinars, and in effect, taking them off the street...

One would surmise that at some point, this tactic to stabilize the rate at 1170, will no longer work.

For the simple reason of that diminishing supply thingy....

So now what can they do to keep the Dinar at 1170 ?.... ummmm

not much.

Maybe it's time to allow the Dinar to float, or do an RV, and then re-peg the rate at something higher....

a buck would be nice.

wipe your shoes on the way out.

The best things in life RV

:) yak

That is what I think is happening. If they stick with the claim no more auctions, the dinar would be floating on its own. Now they must feel sure the dinar is not going to fall on its ass. So what do they do? I suppose they could peg to another currency like the british pound, or the dollar or it would have to be pretty strong to hold up on its own.

Hi Zig,

Was just wondering where all the talk is coming from regarding no more auctions. Did I miss a memo again?

I couldn't see it in a news article, but may have missed it.

Thanks

Where does it say no more buy back auctions? I'd like to see that :)

I'm beginning to wonder about this whole possible scenario with no more buy back auctions too....the reason is this ...I have received "mass test" emails from my dinar dealer in recent days....hmmmm why????? Hmmmmm what have they been told or do they know something is really close too??

I too would like to see a. Link or confirmation of where anyone stated that the auctions have stopped. I'm sure while they are rebalancing for a few days they will be on hold, but nowhere did I read where it specifically states they have stopped for good. Where did I miss that? Thanks.

Top 2 Quotes you want to hear from a "Central Bank" Rep. prior to an RV.

1/ "The bank coffers are said to be brimming with hard cash from oil sales".

2/ “We withdrew in one single day about one quarter of a trillion dinars, thereby brining stability to the currency,” Saleh said.

Here you go Tiger. Zig is having a cocktail, so I thought I would help out.

Thanks Carello,

I hope Zig isn't drinking my cocktail.

So, I'm not sure if this article is saying that they have put a permanent stop to the auctions, or just that they aren't doing one today as they are closed to put the finishing touches on the books for the year. Time will tell.

Yeah. For me it says they are finishing 2011. I definitely wouldn't jump to any conclusions from any of these articles.

Thank you for the link. I had read that one and interpreted it as "temporarily closed while the banks settle things for end of year finances." I'd guess the auctions will start again when they get their books all finished up and ready to start the 2012 banking year. I was assumming there was another article that I missed. Thanks anyways!

On a serious note....then why are they sooo proud to be able to buy back enough to "keep" the rate
