Hi Group,

I have a question that I really cannot find the answer to through my research and hope that someone else might know. Have the Chapter 7 sanctions been lifted or not? There is a constant difference of opinions between the gurus with half saying the sanctions have been lifted and the other half saying they remain in effect. Does anyone actually have the true answer with a link on where to find it? This has been talked about as an event that probably must be satisfied before an RV occurs. Thanks so much.

They have NOT been completey lifted, there is absolutely no doubt about it. Could be announced at any time, but as of this moment, no.

Go RV!

Note that (as I understand it) there is also a big difference between Chapter VII and the sanctions. Placing a nation in chapter VII status allows the UN Security Council to impose broad sanctions on the target country but does not by itself impose any such activity. I suspect that being removed from Chapter VII will also not remove those sanctions. So getting out of Chapter VII is a big step as it says no more sanctions will be imposed but I think distinct votes in the Security Council will be needed to end each of the sanctions that were imposed under the umbrella of Chapter VII.

Absolutely and I could not agree more. However, I just can't find any solid info (news link or other) regarding Chapter 7 or the sanctions. Obviously, the gurus can't either because they split so divisively on what appears to be an important issue. Believe me when I say this, very little of what the gurus have to say holds water with me :-)

This is exactly why Iraq will stay in Chapter 7. It has not paid many of it's it's foreign workers & many of it's foreign contracting corporations. A hand shake & a signed contract deal are still meaningless in Iraq. Kuwait & Oman same thing. They all have a reputation as thieves when it comes to business.
