You all have me sufficiently curious now that I would like to see this offensive picture that is causing such a broohaha.

But, having not seen it, I'll give my two cents worth anyway ...

First cent ... In the text part of DV it takes a lot to get something commented on or have a thread closed for a content reason by the moderators or Mr. Montana. So I think it would have to be something very gross to be acted upon by them and I am not sure they would remove a picture, since they are so adamant about not removing comments and posts that are offensive ... just close them off and let them die a natural death.

Cent two of my two cents ... There are things on DV that I, personally, find offensive. Some are of a passing nature, they appear in a post and then just work their way through the system naturally and I don't bother commenting. Others, and there is really just one, will continually be posted as a big deal and it bugs me to anger and I find I just must make a nasty comment. I have been trying hard not to do that because of the second cent ... Cent two : the people here really are family. We don't shut family off, or throw them out, or disown them just because they do or say or write something with which we don't agree. If we cannot change their mind peacefully we ignore whatever it is and go on to the next day, family intact. I have no other real family any longer, in the real world. So, I have sort of adopted my cyber family, which has a few cousins and aunts and uncles and it all starts here at DV. So, I would defend each and every member's right to do or say what they wish. As the saying goes, and I have forgotten who first said it ... "I may not agree with what he says but I will defend to the death his right to say it."

So, thanks everyone for wading in on this issue, which wasn't such an issue actually. I think it was written in a way that showed much more disgust and anger than was really intended and seemed directed at certain persons when it really was directed at the policy of the forum.

It is good to know that we have members, even short time members, who realize we can have our two cents worth in a posting or comment, and even better to know we have long time members who will jump to our defence and support our rights as their own.

Also, I you go into my profile you will see that Markinsa. (One of the mods) has already stated that there is no problem with my pictures. Now if you wish to come here as a newbie (6 posts!!!!) and start a cyber riot fine. But be prepared to take the consequences of moaning about a Cartoon!! Take my advice read the other thread before you continue. And yes I am laughing at you for being so friggin stupid about a cartoon.

To anyone who reads this and knows me will ..... I am sorry for my rant. Most of you will realise this is out of character for me to be so rude and blunt , BUT this is just pathetic because of a cartoon in a sexy outfit!!! Worse things are seen on T. V. And in the streets of our towns and cities every day. And I would hope most of us have more important things in life to worry and complain about !!!!! And yes I am furious!

But I don't agree with your 1) attitude about Newbies (or perhaps stupid people?) or 2) Your advice. What exactly would you like Cath to do research on before stating an OPINION? He (or she) NEVER said that Betty's pics were offensive. Just that there were too many of HIS (or her) taste. I am not sure that was an insult. I think cath has just as much right to post on this forum as anyone else regardless of how long they have been here. This thread started out as a pretty simple question/observation IMO, and just because he had the misfortune to use Betty, (a highly popular member) as an EXAMPLE, he has been bashed almost non stop for the past 36 hours?? I'm sorry folks, but I don't get it. Betty, the "soft porn" thread was started by AENewman and was directed at you. This was not, and I (like cath) wish we could move on before we start calling names, and comparing to other members who post JUST to be insulting. OOPS, too late.

Ummmmmmm......... Well let's think about this......... Oh yeah you included your BETTY comment in the same post as you byline. Oh and then you put great emphasis on the BETTY part of your original post because YOU USED CAPITAL LETTERS. Plus you were commenting on the pictures of a member of this site who as you will have gathered by now is loved and respected. For which I am thankful every day. I don't know how I would have kept my sanity these last few months if it had not been for the wonderful members of this site. As for the other picture ........ Personally I don't have too much of a problem with it. I just see it as how some one has expressed themselves. I. E. The person who created the piece. And the person who posted it ......... I guess they have some appreciation of it also.

I have to totally agree with your sentiments here. Cath also came back and tried to explain to all, exactly what she was trying to convey, but everyones mind was already made up and felt the need to take sides. Cath never said anything derrogatory about Betty's person but expressed the iterate of her/his pics. and yes, I looked the word up and it means: to do again and again or repeatedly. I truely do not believe cath was trying to be ugly or bring disharmony or trying to be offensive to this "DV family"

Did I miss something? How is that picture with the knife and the baby ok? I will be the first to admit that I don't 'get' some kinds of humor but I gotta say that picture totally offends me... I don't care what the symbolism is! Any way I can shut off the gallery entirely!? I've seen WAY TOO MANY iterations of betty. (Ya, I know I'm being a sourpuss... But this is the peanut gallery, so I put in my two cents worth.)

I don't quite understand how you jumped from seeing and shutting off offensive pictures in the gallery to seeing too many "iterations" of Betty? I have never seen HER in the gallery? I have only seen her in the forums contributing, giving her positive and wise insights. Perhaps it is the "symbolism" of a sexual and lively cartoon that you are refering to? Sorry if you find that offensive... Obviously most here don't. I have not seen the offensive picture that you started this post about, nor do I care to. I would have just pasted your post by. IMO an apology even IF cath believed they did anything wrong would NOT help with this group. Cath asked if we could just move on........what.............16 Hours ago? Yet other seem intent on having it continue. Not real sure why

And apparently, cath was right about the pic or Markinsa would not have seen fit to delete it. Cath's ONLY mistake was mentioning Betty's name, and it IMO was blown WAYYYYYYYYYYYYY out of proportion.

Now to anyone who enters this thread!! This has run its course as far as I am concerned. Granted cath didn't know what she was walking into by using my name but she is also entitled to express here opinion just as wee all have. I am sorry that she does not like the pictures of betty but I shall not be removing them. I know this was not directed at me as a person. Sadly , her bigger complaint or part of the original post was in regards to another picture however, in all honesty cath I do not think thew majority of us felt that due to your usage of capital letters.

Cath, I didn't mean to be dismissive of the concerns you had about the baby picture, I simply I have not seen it. I'm an animal lover and just ignore the pics I come across where animals are hunted. My feeling is, if someone hunts or likes hunting, they have the right to post their pictures. And I have the right to not hunt. No one is right. As much as I love animals, I have to recognize someone else has the right to hunt them. Someone else may be a supporter of the President and they have pics/posts to be mad about. But everyone has the right to their opinion and voice. No one is going to agree on everything all the time. Especially on the Internet.

The good news is a mod looked at the picture, found your concerns had merit, and deleted it.

Betty Boop, I think your pics are cute. I get it. I learned my first day here that everyone doesn't get my humor either.

Everyone, there is great news about IQD this week. The last 24 hours has been really exciting. Let's focus on that. Go RV!
