FEMA to test 'Presidential Alert' text system 01:23

Washington (CNN)You'll soon be getting a message on your phone from the President of the United States -- whether you are a supporter or not.

It's not a political message, but an emergency test message sent from President Donald Trump as part of the Federal Emergency Management Agency's system to warn the public in cases of national emergencies.
A majority of cell phone users will receive an alert on Thursday, September 20, with the header "Presidential Alert" and the message, "THIS IS A TEST of the National Wireless Emergency Alert System. No action is needed."
WEA was technically launched in April of 2012, but this will be the first time FEMA has tested the system on the presidential level in hopes to work out the kinks, the agency said in a press release this week.

The presidential alert is one of three kinds of alerts in the FEMA's WEA system, which also notifies the public about extreme weather or missing children, also known as AMBER alerts.
You can expect to see the alert pop up on your phone at 2:18 p.m. ET so long as you have your phone turned on, are within range of a cell tower, and if your wireless provider is part of the WEA system.
The WEA test will be broadcast over the course of about 30 minutes and sound the same as an AMBER Alert. Users can't opt out of the presidential alert test, according to FEMA.
More than 100 carriers, including the largest carriers (Verizon, AT&T, Sprint, T-Mobile), will participate in the emergency alert test, FEMA said.
FEMA will also run a test of its Emergency Alert System (EAS) for radio and television broadcasters the same day, beginning two minutes after the WEA test.
In its news release, FEMA said it could postpone the national test to October 3 if the agency is dealing with a major weather event, but it has not yet made that determination. FEMA is currently handling the response to Hurricane Florence which hit the Carolinas on Friday, causing heavy winds and rainfall in the region.
FEMA officials told CNN on Saturday morning that they are still planning to conduct the test this week.
The agency is required by law to conduct a nationwide test of its public alert systems no less than once every three years.
FEMA is also tasked with ensuring that the President can alert the public under all conditions in cases of national emergencies, including natural disasters and terrorist threats.

CNN's Gregory Wallace contributed to this report.

'PREPARE TO DIE': Leftists' Heads Explode Over Trump Alert

September 14, 2018

Leftists went into full freak out mode on Friday after it was announced that the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) will test the Emergency Alert System (EAS) next week — a system that allows President Donald Trump to message all Americans.

FEMA made the announcement in a statement:

The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), in coordination with the Federal Communications Commission (FCC), will conduct a nationwide test of the Emergency Alert System (EAS) and Wireless Emergency Alerts (WEA) on September 20, 2018. The WEA portion of the test commences at 2:18 p.m. EDT, and the EAS portion follows at 2:20 p.m. EDT. The test will assess the operational readiness of the infrastructure for distribution of a national message and determine whether improvements are needed.

"The EAS is a national public warning system that provides the President with the communications capability to address the nation during a national emergency," the statement continued. "The test is made available to EAS participants (i.e., radio and television broadcasters, cable systems, satellite radio and television providers, and wire line video providers) and is scheduled to last approximately one minute."

Talking Points Memo editor Josh Marshall tweeted: "Prepare to die, folks. Trump is about to get his own 'presidential alert' system plugged into your cell phone. And he gets to test it out the first time next week"

2/ In other words, it's basically like an amber alert from the president when we're all about to die. Or alternatively when he's going so apeshit that tweeting just want give him enough satisfaction.

— Josh Marshall (@joshtpm) September 14, 2018

The reaction to the announcement was predictably absurd but entertaining (Warning: tweets contain profanity):

Is there anything in the Presidential Emergency Alert statute that provides for the case in which a president is a wildly narcissistic man-baby and treats the system as his new toy to own the libs?

OH DEAR GOD. It’s like an Amber Alert except it’s Orange and there’s no way of disabling it. https://t.co/tYGXHim1eZ

Our country has needed an emergency warning system for years.  Finally, a president that looks out for the safety of his people.  Trump reads the Bible and knows war is inevitable.  👍👍

At the very least, Trump will get a chance to show off his immaculate spelling skills for the entire country to see.....Should be bigly awesome.  I wonder....do you think Donald will try to find a way to block his haters from his EAS alerts?  :D

GO RV, then BV

If you go to the fema site that has this announcement you will see that this is the 4th one of these that they have done since 2011 ... It is interesting that it will be titled from the President of the United States.... Because of concerns about terrorism and especially infrastructure terrorism I am in favor of the concept....even today ...perhaps what happened up in Massachusetts where they literally evacuated a whole town of 32000 people because they had 70 structure fires from gas main explosions.... has to make you wonder what the real truth is....no matter what the MSM is telling us.. some up grade from say the weather alert type.... for events of National security... in my mind is a welcome addition.  CL

I have friends who live in Andover and were evacuated... The pipes had too much pressure and the company responsible is out... A larger company is taking over... no conspiracy or fake news, just a company lacking the knowledge, equipment and experience.

Yes...I read all of that too......but I also know it is possible for that pressure build up to be caused by an infrastructure hack......and I seriously doubt our Govt. would ever let us know that had occurred....JMO....CL

Their record is pretty bad... But their stock was doing great... Profits before people?

In the three Massachusetts communities rocked by a series of devastating gas fires and explosions, residents are running out of patience, with their fingers pointed at Columbia Gas. The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) announced they were investigating the company.

"We will be looking at their record keeping, their procedural compliance, their procedures, their training, the oversight of their contractors," NTSB Chairman Robert Sumwalt said.

Government records reveal at least three other serious explosions in Massachusetts, West Virginia and Ohio have been linked to Columbia Gas. The company a subsidiary of NiSource, a utility company that serves more than three million customers in seven states.

A technician who punctured a gas line was to blame for this 2012 blast in Springfield that destroyed a nightclub and damaged nearly a dozen other buildings and injured 17 people.

In West Virginia, the NTSB identified major safety issues when a Columbia Gas pipeline that hadn't been inspected or tested since the late 1980's corroded and ruptured, destroying three homes. In Ohio, an investigation revealed an "improperly abandoned" service line was responsible for an explosion that caused millions in property damage.

The NTSB would not say how Columbia Gas' accident history compares to other natural gas suppliers.

Pretty Low comment...But then again your Hate Glows everyday...an If you truly do read the Bible which I'm not saying you don't. Your missing the meaning of it...

Pretty low comment. Depends on your definition of low. You know like banging porn stars while your wife is with child. Or lying about everything to mislead your followers. This is precisely why organized religion is losing members. The churches are putting politics before the teachings of the Bible. I can't imagine someone preaching to their flock that this man is a good man that we need to follow and learn from.

I think a lot of people are missing the meaning...

I B/A, you are either going to the wrong church or not graced the doors of a true place of worship because Churches DO NOT preach Trump, Obimbo or any other political figure... A true church of God preaches and teaches Jesus.  That is why the attendance at church  has fallen off because people hate His very name.  And you are wrong about the Bible not speaking or teaching about war.  This is something that has always been.  Not only in the Bible but History has carried war forward since the beginning of the 1st book written.  If your church preaches politics, then you need to find a true church, get out of the one your in because it's not a church.

My church doesn't but there are those who do... The sad part is these people have a large influence over their flocks... If they want to get in to the business of politics, maybe it's time to tax them!!!

Jerry Falwell, Jr. has celebrated Trump as a “dream president” and Franklin Graham said “God’s hand intervened” to elect him.

Paula White, the “prosperity gospel” television preacher who became President Donald Trump’s spiritual adviser, recently equated opposition to Trump with opposition to God

“We’ve got to get beyond the church, beyond the pews,” Colby May, a TBN board member, said of the network’s new direction.

Tony Perkins, a major figure within the evangelical world, used a popular golf euphemism for a “do-over” — a “mulligan” — to imply that Trump’s alleged affair with Stormy Daniels should be ignored.

i know very little about Farwell, but Franklin Graham is correct as Romans 13:1 tells us,  "let everyone be subject to governing authority, for there is NO authority except that which God has established."

i personally do not listen or care to hear prosperity or feel good preaching as this is twisting God's word to tickle ones ear.

the others you have mentioned are not even names I have heard of.

but you are right, if these places don't teach the true gospel then perhaps they should be taxed because they have become nothing more than a money grabbing, greedy business that preys on  individuals looking for something more than this world can ever full fill. If one is truely searching to hear the TRUE gospel of Jesus Christ he will find it.  Our Lord will lead his/her way
