Do you think Iran has any involvement in these protests?   Those last 4 posts come right from the front pages of the Baghdad Post.

Now a days any unrest in Iraq has got to be tied to Iran. Like the Dems in the US, never let a good controversy go to waist. Whether it be organic or created. IMHO .

Hundreds of angry demonstrators stormed the main gate of the Sheraton Hotel, where Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi is staying, after the committee supervising the protests, consisting of a group of civilian activists, dignitaries, professors, intellectuals, tribal leaders and clerics in Basra province, Meeting Abadi, asserting that the demands are clear and explicit and do not need to meet.

The leader of the Sadrist movement Moqtada al-Sadr expressed his rejection of the use of violence against demonstrators, describing the protests as "a hungry revolution."

"We do not accept the assault on the oppressed demonstrators," Sadr wrote in a tweet on Twitter.

"We also wish the demonstrators to preserve the public property, it belongs to the people, not to the corrupt," he said, ending his hunger strike.

Osama al-Nujaifi, the Iraqi Vice President and head of the Coalition, also supported his full coalition of protesting citizens in Basra province in demanding their legitimate rights and calling for a solution to their crises.

"To listen to the voice of the people and to make efforts to ease their suffering is a goal nobody can give up," he said in a statement sent to Basnews. He called on the government to take "serious, swift and decisive steps" to address the obvious failure and failure to provide basic services, .

Earlier in the day, Iraq's highest religious authority, Ali al-Sistani , supported the protests in Basra about five days ago.

This comes at a time of continuing angry protests in Basra to demand the provision of basic services and employment of the unemployed, especially in the oil companies.

On Friday, hundreds of citizens demonstrated near the port of Umm Qasr, south-west of Basra, to demand better service conditions and create jobs for the unemployed and blocked the passage of trucks through the road leading to the port.

The demonstrators demanded to find job opportunities for the unemployed and to address the problem of interruptions in electricity and the increase in the salinity of water and provide basic services for the people of the province. They confirmed that they will continue demonstrations and sit-ins at the port gate until their demands are met.

In the end, there is a difference between the two It is the first of its kind

Basra has been witnessing five days of  protests against the  widespread lack of basic services and rampant unemployment, where police confronted the demonstrators with bullets, killing two people and wounding others. Protests over the past two days have spread to other southern provinces, threatening to expand protests and take a violent turn.

The demonstrations cut off roads and stopped the movement of employees in oil companies and civilian vehicles at the sites of these companies and at the port of Shalamjah border with Iran to protest the deterioration of services and lack of employment opportunities.

Earlier in the day, Iraqi Prime Minister  Haidar al-Abadi arrived in the province of Basra, which has been witnessing protests for days, coming from Brussels, after participating in the meeting of the International Coalition against the organization calling, in an effort to calm the demonstrations that erupted days ago in protest against poor services And the deterioration of living conditions, especially since this province is considered the richest of the Iraqi provinces in terms of oil reserves, and the oil exports from Basra, more than 65% of Iraq's revenues, and any failure in production to cause severe damage to the economy.

It is noteworthy that the previous agreement between the Ministry of Oil and oil companies running 80 percent of the people of the province in these companies, but it seems that this agreement does not implement what left the youth of the province, which is the capital of Iraq's economy are suffering unemployment after the suspension of appointments in most government institutions three years ago, It includes the country's largest oil fields, five active commercial ports and a land border crossing with Iran and another with Kuwait.

The unemployment rate among Iraqis is officially 12 percent, with the age group under 24 years of 60 percent of Iraq's population of 38 million, making unemployment rates twice higher among young people.

IMHO;

The solution to this is so obvious ; :facepalm3:

Give these people a share of the oil proceeds via the HCL and Art. 140, thus putting money in their pockets.

Give these people Jobs and dignity.

Give these people consistent electricity to run the AC,  the 'frig in the summer, heat their homes in the winter and clean water.

Give these people sense of pride of country  and acknowledgment.

Stinks of Maliki & Iran and other corrupt sorts of dead beats to keep the unrest going: in this they hope to leverage a bigger slice of long term control. As in - “. . . we’ll stop all this when WE get what we demand that which is rightfully ours ( whether it’s “ right “ or not ).

I ( at some point expect this to Backfire, greatly) don’t expect to see this going on too much longer. Those that want Iraq to succeed, won’t stand for it.

When the Iran Deal was nixed something had to give.

The timing of it with the elections might have been wholly calculated in the current administration's mind.

Did they let Abadi and the clerics know before then that they had his back fighting corruption? Abadi seems to be pretty comfortable running things with all the mess around him.

What surprises me is...Iran and the corrupt ilk wasted no time acting...they must have a LOT to lose.

Push is really coming to shove, and it's good thing...the corrupt within Iraq and Iran can't assume they can just do whatever they want anymore.
