Angelina Jolie from Mosul: This is the worst devastation I 've ever had with UNHCR

UN special envoy to the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) Angelina Jolie described the situation in the Iraqi city of Mosul as "appalling", saying Iraqis were still surrounded by bodies and scenes of destruction.
"This is the worst destruction I've ever seen in my years with UNHCR," said the American actress, standing in front of the rubble of the Mosque of the Nuri Mosque during her visit to the city.
Jolie's visit came less than a year after the Islamists were driven out of the city in July 2017, after they took over in 2014.
During her review of reconstruction projects, Julie said: "The situation here in the western part of Mosul is appalling. "The displacement of the population continues, and the camps in the vicinity of the city are constantly overcrowded."
She urged the international community not to forget the city and its "landless people who do not have medicine for their children".
"The people here have lost everything, their homes have been destroyed, they do not have medicine for their children, and many do not have access to clean water or basic services," she said.
She said the Iraqis in the city were still "surrounded by the bodies and the rubble of the houses" they are now trying to rebuild after the terrible trauma they suffered during its occupation.
"Empowering the population to return and stabilize the city is a key factor for the stability of Iraq and the region in the future," she said.
Nearly half a million Iraqis fled their homes, mostly ethnic and religious minorities, because of the fighting in Mosul.
Some 8,000 houses were destroyed, and five bridges collapsed over the Euphrates River, three of which are under renovation, according to the United Nations.

Al-Obaidi's policy on Jolie's visit: I know Iraqi deputies and deputies have cut thousands of kilometers to order

Obeidi on the visit of "Julie": I know Iraqi deputies and deputies have cut thousands of kilometers to order

(Reuters) - Khalid al-Obeidi, head of the Birik al-Khair bloc in Nineveh, which won first place in the recent legislative elections, welcomed the visit by the famous American actress Angelina Jolie to the city of Mosul.

"Before the visit of the American actress, I would have hoped that our deputies would visit any liberated city or village to provide moral support to their families," Abbadi wrote in a tweet on Twitter today.

"I know in Iraq, deputies and deputies traveled thousands of kilometers to travel to dozens of countries (sister and friend), but they did not visit one liberated area (to stay more than 250 kilometers from their homes) to provide" moral "support to their families and to inform them that they are not alone in this country" .

UN special envoy Angelina Jolie visited the old city of Mosul on Saturday, less than a year after her liberation. This is the fifth visit of the global representative of Iraq.

Jolie wandered among buildings bombed in the narrow streets of the old city and met with displaced families to discuss efforts to rebuild the city and the needs of returning residents.

West of Mosul or locally known as the Old City, was a stronghold of the head of an adamant organization. It was severely damaged during the liberation process. Jolie also visited the area around the ruins of the famous al-Nuri Mosque, which was set up by an al-Qaeda organization.

People have lost everything here, their homes have been destroyed, they are destitute, they have no medicine for their children, many of them have no running water or basic services, they are still surrounded by bodies under the rubble, "said Jolie. "After the trauma of the unimaginable occupation, they are now trying to rebuild their homes, often with little or no help."

"Despite the grief and shock of the people, but they are also optimistic, they are removing their homes with their hands, volunteering and helping each other, but they need our help," said Julie, according to a UN statement.

"As an international community, we often tend to assume that when the fighting is over, the work is done, but the conditions I have observed here in western Mosul are terrible, the displacement is still happening, the camps near the city are still full. The empowerment of people to return and the stability of the city is essential for the stability of Iraq and the region in the future. "
