As defined by Merriam-Webster  :   A pattern of  thought characterized by self deception ,forced manufacture of consent and conformity to group ethics and values  . This is a fascinating subject ,lots of information on it . All the book needs is a  picture  of a die hard  Dem on the cover . Am i guilty of group think?   Ahhhhh, the human condition !

I am sincerely sorry you had to undergo such a harshness ( totally un-called for)  so far while here, Dinarham

Again I want to assure you that most People here are good Individuals ( Been here for 8 years ..So I do know)

Please do not let some ( few)  intolerant attackers  stop you in freely expressing your thoughts......

As Neil Young used to sing..." Don't let it bring you down"

Best

So what is this Group Think you are wondering about?

Because you belong to a Group do you think You need to think the same as Everyone Else.....That would mean you are weak and unable to have your own thoughts, ideas and dreams

Maybe because you are wondering where a frog is a fish that just evolved more and now you are with a group thinking they are more like the Frog than the fish.

Karsten ,you're spot on with your understanding of group thinking   I'm a bit confuse with the fish and frog thing ,and  will think on it more .  Group thinking requires rigid thinking where everything is black and white ,no grey areas .  If you've lived long enough ,raised a family , had a job , you have probably run into a grey area or two . For instance , I have guns but I don't see the need for automatic weapons .  I'm all for strict borders and stringent immigration policy ,and rounding up all those criminals that are here illegally . I do believe that some exceptions  can be made .

Quick input to "NEED".

"Nobody needs to own an automatic rifle". Everyone should be able to buy one if they want and if they are able to own a firearm.

"Nobody needs 30 pairs of shoes". If you want to buy thirty pairs go ahead.

It is not my place to tell "you" what you need. If the purchase of that need infringes on my rights given by God and guaranteed under the Bill of Rights

then yes there will be a restriction imposed. Either by law or me.

No one should be able to tell anyone else what they can or can not buy just because "they" FEEL it is not needed.

Conservative:  I don't like guns.

Response.       I am not going to buy a gun.

Liberal:             I don't like guns.

Response:       Ban them, No one should own one. They are evil and kill people.

I for the most part (according to my wife) am a black and white with very little grey(except my head and beard) opinionated kinda guy.

nstoolman ,  I always try my best not to tell anyone what do do .  I voiced my own personal opinion about guns ,but you are the boss of yourself ,and that has to be good enough for me . Opinions should be listened to and respected  ,that's all

Exactly and thanks, Dinarham.....Well-said

But for some it's impossible ( to listen and to respect diff. opinions..I said  at least respect only and not agree with , of course)...

It's really apparently genetically too hard a task to perform for some...So they need to be forgiven because it's not their fault ...

Not surprising after all as this Forum  ( with lots of Great People infact...) is a microcosm representing the reality of the world out there......And we all know the world out there is tough, so.....

Life is so much easier if you lighten up and concern yourself with managing your own life .  I was a control freak for years ,trying to change people's world view over to mine . It created  bad friction and was a horrible waste of time and energy . So to some here I humbly suggest that you lighten up and take that huge boulder chip off your shoulders .  Other good advise : " Never complain ,never explain ,and always look like you're having a good time "

There are many conflicts raging in this world today ,whether it's the middle east or personal conflicts that we experience in our own lives . They both come down to the lack of ability to compromise .  In counties , conflicts are over territories ,natural resources ,and basic values  like religion . Eventually group  or individual think becomes rigid ,and this inhibits peaceful resolution . Rigid thinkers will insult their opponent ,and declare themselves the victim . In counties ,it mostly flows in the direction of action taken by the leader, with his or her own psychological dynamics and quirks in play .

I will agree that no one really need a FA Weapon but that said if you have the money to afford one and can feed it LEGALLY....Hey, more power to them. I have a number of friends with FA M4's m16's M14's and a couple others things. One guy owns both a Mortar and a Grenade launcher and the paper work has has to keep, go through just to shoot one round off would make me crazy........Now go imagine some of the big FA Shoots they have back East where folks show up with all the fun stuff.

Hell I would love to have a GE Mini Gun but this would have to be equipped with a Semi Auto Switch so I could afford to shoot it.

Myself, I get sick each and every time there is another school shooting just like today in Texas....I had nothing to do with it nor was it a member of the NRA but guess who will get the blame.

Will there ever be a real investigation into this or that school shooting..........Why the Cowards of Broward stood down  while Other Officers ran in. Where the system failed, who it was that let these people fall through the cracks.....I doubt it as it doesn't fit the Anti Gun Agenda.

I carry a gun every day even if I am not going to leave the house......Not a one of my Firearms have ever hurt anyone but me with a once time Garand Thumb, another time a 1911 rear sight bit me pretty good, 12 gau Shotgun beat me up pretty good after and all day competition and broke all the blood vessels in my chest and I once popped myself in the nose when shooting a pre Ban AR-15 that I forgot the extend the collapsible stock....If ya know the way around and AR you just about put your nose on the charging handle....Now do it with the gun NOT Shouldered Properly....Ouch.

As for Illegal Immigration......Just try crossing into Mexico Illegally and see where that gets you.....One Marine make that mistake and paid. Now say you want to Protest In Mexico, Fly the American Flag and Demand Welfare....See how that works out for you.

I am a simple guy and I live a simple life....I have my Opinions, I am Proud of what POTUS Trump is doing and I don't care for people that are contently dumping on him......We lived through 8 years of obama and no one cared what We the People Expected to see checked into. I could care less if POTUS Trump Banger a Porn Star.....He wasn't anything more than a Private Citizen......Same as if I or anymore here banged a Porn Star.....Dude.....Kudo's to you, High 5. .

Well, I have to think about the Frog and the Fish thing myself....It had to come from something I was listening too.

I will ponder this more and maybe come up up with an answer
