  • yota691 changed the title to A rift in the Fatah alliance reduces Iran's influence on the Iraqi government

%D8%AA%D8%AD%D8%A7%D9%84%D9%81%D8%A7%D8%

BAGHDAD - The gathering that brought Hadi al-Amiri, the leader of the Fatah list close to Iran, to US Ambassador to Baghdad Douglas Silliman, raised many questions about the ability of Tehran's allies in Iraq to be coherent in the face of continued international pressure.

"The United States is trying to isolate the Badr Organization, led by Amiri, from the Iranian-backed Fatah alliance," a diplomat in Baghdad told the Arabs.

The Iraqi political source said that "the alliance of conquest is witnessing a clear conflict between the leaders, on the relationship with the United States," explaining that "Amiri supports a reasonable degree of openness to Washington does not anger Iran, while rejecting the movement of Asaib Ahl al-Haq, the second largest force in the conquest , Ie, rapprochement with the United States. "

More recently, the US Congress supported a draft resolution that includes the Asaib Ahl al-Haq movement as a terrorist organization.

Qais al-Khazali, the movement's leader, said the US action came in response to a 15-seat victory in the 2018 parliament after it won one seat in the 2014 parliament.

Sources in the Central Bank of Iraq, the highest monetary authority in the country, said that the bank operated by Asaib Ahl al-Haq, which specializes in converting foreign currency from Iraq to Iran, may be subject to severe restrictions that disrupt most of its financial transactions, against the background of the classification of the movement as a terrorist organization.

The United States has already placed an Iraqi bank owned by Aras Karim, leader of the National Congress, the candidate on the list of the prime minister, on the black list, because of its role in providing hard currency to official Iranian banks.

Despite the political alliance between Karim and Abadi, the Central Bank of Iraq, immediately froze all its dealings with the "Bank of the country," in response to the US decision.

The efforts of Ambassador Silliman to support the plan to prevent Asaib Ahl al-Haq to influence the political scene, through communication with the largest partner of the movement in the Fatah alliance, "Badr" led by Amiri.

According to the Iraqi diplomat, who is following the efforts of communication between US representatives and Iraqi leaders, "the new Iraqi government may accept the accession of the Badr Organization, and the removal of the sticks."

The sources say that "the relations between Amiri and Khazali are going through the worst form."

The leader of the Sadrist movement, Muqtada al-Sadr, who sponsors the list of "winner" winner of the first place in the Iraqi elections, the participation of Asaib Ahl al-Haq in any ministerial group adopted by the mass.

Khafali is a former Sadr aide who split off with Iranian encouragement and formed an armed militia accused of sectarian violence, while al-Ubeib said it was there to counter American influence in Iraq and the region.

Qais al-Khazali told journalists in Baghdad that "the Fatah list is holding ongoing consultations with a list of others to discuss ways to form a new government."

According to informed sources, the differences between Amiri and Khazali peaked with the first meeting with the American ambassador, while the second was a lot of signals about the decline of the chances of the leader of the Badr Organization in the post of prime minister.

In the meantime, confirmed Jafar al-Moussawi, a spokesman for Sadr, "the existence of ongoing negotiations between the alliance with other political blocs," without naming, noting that "the last ten days of the holy month of Ramadan will be crucial in this regard."

Moussawi supports Khomeini's reading of two paths to form a new government, ruled by distance and proximity to Iran. He said that "two trains are moving to form the parliamentary bloc the most numerous," pointing out that "the alliance of the Sarun lead the first train and the coalition of the rule of law leads the second train," asserting the impossibility of the convergence of these trains at a common point to form a single alliance.

Iraqi observers have not ruled out anyone planning to jump from the Iranian boat for the same reasons he had earlier invited to board the boat. Which are utilitarian reasons covered by ideological cover.

An Iraqi observer said in a statement to the "Arabs" that the loyalists of Iran are the most familiar with the lies of the Iranian project in Iraq, which began to abandon its religious manifestations to show its reality as a political project, which maneuvers Iran in its troubled relationship with the United States.

The observer stressed that if Al-Khazali does not belong to the type that is thinking of abandoning Iran to protect his political gains in Iraq, it is not because of his ideological affiliation with the system of the rule of the Faqih as much as the fact that his Iraqi paper was burned under the US decision, which put his gangs on the list Terrorist organizations, in the sense that it has finally become part of the Iranian basket that should be targeted by US sanctions.

He pointed out that the Iraqi political parties, which are preparing to establish alliances among themselves to form the largest parliamentary bloc, are certain that the nature of their relationship with Iran has become the criterion by which they are accepted or rejected in the next government, not at the grassroots level where the aversion to Iranian hegemony was the slogan of the winners In the elections, but also at the level of the American vision for the Iraq of the next stage.

Many expect that the next phase will be dominated by American influence, which will lead to the exclusion of the parties involved in its declared loyalty to Iran, especially Asaib Ahl al-Haq, while the other parties will go through a test period may not be long in order to determine their ability to make a distance between them and their past tangled The Iranian project and its desire to be part of the American option in Iraq.

Baghdad News -

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - US Senator Lindsey Graham said Wednesday that his country had sacrificed more than 4,000 troops in Iraq, pointing out that the security situation in Iraq was better now and there was an obligation to enforce the law. While stressing the need for Iraq to US forces.

"July 4 is America's Independence Day and my best place to celebrate this anniversary is at the US Embassy in Iraq with those who defend and make the world better," Graham told a news conference at the US embassy in Baghdad in the presence of US Ambassador Douglas Silliman.

"It is clear that we are building the wall in South America but we are not building a wall with the Middle East," Graham said, referring to US President Donald Trump's plan to build a barrier on the border with Mexico to prevent infiltration of illegal immigrants.

"During this tour in the Middle East, we visited our forces in Syria and it was a good experience and the US forces are doing a good job there to ensure stability," he said.

"The defeat in Damascus is difficult, and the fight against the organization in Syria was not the best, and we see a solution lies in the presence of US forces in Iraq and Syria," he said.

"Our efforts in Syria are good and the number of American casualties has decreased in the last three years to 14 Americans," Graham said. "These groups that have done this in Iraq can work in Syria, so we are in Iraq."

He pointed out that 'most Iraqis remember the collapse of the security forces and the entry of an advocate in an attempt to kill civilization, calling remind us of evil,' noting that 'America sacrificed more than four thousand troops in Iraq.'

"The security situation in Iraq is better and the laws are applied. Mosul and the liberated areas are back to life and its economy is improving," Graham said. "In Arbil, there is a strong economy and security forces."

"We emphasize a united Iraq with a Shiite and a Sunni population living in one country. There is a great opportunity for the Iraqi people to unite and all the components of the people will be present in the next government," he said.

"We have discussed with Abadi and political leaders the formation of the government and we are looking for an Iraqi government formed by," Graham said. "I met with Prime Minister Abbadi and the work is under way to form a government, but politicians have to realize that the turnout of citizens is low. Iraqis and not by America. "

He stressed that 'America wants a totalitarian government and a moderate coalition that includes everyone and cares about the interests of people and fight corruption spread', stressing that 'in America we have difficulty in leading America, how is the case in Iraq'.

"I tell my colleagues in America that the Iraqi security forces need US forces, and from an American point of view, there must be US troops in Iraq if the Iraqi people want them," Graham said.

July 4, 2018

image-2011.jpg?w=1280&h=640

US Senator Lindsey Graham said Wednesday that the security situation in Iraq had improved significantly and that the Iraqi army had been built.

“My impression of the security situation in Iraq has improved dramatically,” Graham told a news conference at the US embassy in Baghdad. “Everyone remembers the collapse of the security forces in front of Da’ash.”

“We say to Iraq that your army has been built,” he said. “It is difficult to defeat a preacher in Iraq unless there is an American presence in Syria and Iraq.”

“I tell my colleagues in America that the Iraqi security forces need US forces,” he said, pointing out that “the American point of view is our presence if the Iraqi people want it and I think he wants it.”

“The last three years have killed 14 Americans,” he said, adding that ‘today we have a small part of the troops and the number of casualties has decreased significantly’.

“The war is not getting much attention in our country,” he said. “We can not destroy it with a strong economy and a good education system.”

A lot going on right now...revalue or not, Iraq seems to be on the current administration's mind, doesn't it?

It appears they definitely want the "fallout' from the Iran situation to end up in their favor over there politically, and are willing to send envoys, diplomats, etc.

They played the Iran card, not sure if it wasn't a "defined risk" play now...they might have let Iraq, (the clerics, etc) know they have their back before they pulled out of the Iran deal and BEFORE the election results.

If we see meetings with Sadr soonish that would be interesting.
