Baking soda good for our heath

The three trillion-dollar income stream produced by the medical industrial complex is about to come demolished by a home remedy – baking soda.  Buy stock in Arm & Hammer. (Church & Dwight Co. Ltd.)

Now for the details:

Researchers at the Medical College of Georgia have discovered a nerve center in a cell layer in the spleen that controls the immune response and therefore inflammation throughout the body.  Given that virtually all chronic age-related disease involves inflammation (called inflammaging), this discovery is of monumental significance and has widespread application for virtually every organ and tissue in the body as the spleen is not only an abdominal organ that is involved in the recycling of old blood cells but is also a key part of the human immune system.

The striking part of this discovery is that autoimmune reactions responsible for chronic inflammation throughout the body were quelled by consumption of two grams (~half a teaspoon) of baking soda in water for two weeks in healthy humans.  Researchers say baking soda (sodium bicarbonate) calms the immune response in the spleen and has a system-wide effect.

An over-active immune response defines autoimmune disorders experienced in physically remote parts of the body including the eyes, kidneys, brain, joints, arteries and lungs as well as in obesity.

As researchers explain, when sodium bicarbonate is consumed it becomes a trigger for the stomach to make more acid to digest the next meal and for the overlooked mesothelial cell lining in the spleen to signal there is no need to mount an overly protective immune response that can alter a delicate balance between M1 and M2 macrophages, white blood cells that target bacteria, viruses, parasites and tumor cells.

Mesothelial cells line the spleen and directly secrete the nerve chemical acetylcholine.  When the spleen is removed from lab animals or just slightly disturbed, the mesothelial nervous connection in the spleen with other parts of the body was cut off and the healthy effect produced by baking soda was abolished.  Acetylcholine signaling represents the brakes on the human immune response.  Acetylcholine signals other organs to under-respond when confronted with pathogenic germs or tumor cells.

“This is the first demonstration that orally ingested sodium bicarbonate (baking soda) can promote a powerful anti-inflammatory response in both animals and humans,” say researchers writing in the Journal of Immunology.  Baking soda “may provide a cheap, relatively safe, effective and easily accessible and/or noninvasive method to activate anti-inflammatory nerve pathways,” researchers emphasized.

Macrophages traverse the entire circulatory system.  But macrophages that reside in the digestive tract represent the largest population of macrophages in the human body.  This strategic location positions them as first-line defense against harmful bacteria and other pathogens.

Imagine the widespread universal application of this simple remedy in the human body.  If only Big Pharma could have patented it.

The polarization of one type of macrophage (M1) over the other (M2) is considered the key link between inflammation and many diseases.  For example, obesity greatly increases the numbers of M1 macrophages in fatty tissue.  This can result in insulin resistance (inability of cells to utilize insulin to produce energy).

A giant pillar of modern medicine against age related disease is about to fall to baking soda therapy.  Monoclonal antibody drugs that block the cellular target of inflammatory agents represent $90 billion in annual sales.  Such drugs are commonly used to treat an advanced form of macular degeneration.  M1/M2 macrophage balance is the tipping point between common and severe form of macular degeneration, a disease that robs older adults of their central vision.

The red wine molecule resveratrol also addresses macrophage M1/M2 polarization, which makes it another excellent natural remedy for chronic inflammation as well.  This is why resveratrol supplementation has been demonstrated to rescue patients who don’t respond to monoclonal antibody drug injections.

Where do we go from here?  Are doctors going to drop their prescription pads and hand out samples of sodium bicarbonate?  That’s not likely.   Let’s see how modern medicine throws this sure-fire remedy under the rug this time.

Been taking it for 7 years.  No cold in 7 years either.  Viruses love an acidic enviroment.  If you raise the ph in your body via baking soda...POOF!  No more cancer, colds, tooth decay etc.  I bet it could even kill aids.

Thanks for your testimonial, Botz

Ya'll forgot to mention another good use for baking soda.

***puts on his Teachers Hat***

Got an ant problem?

Baits don't work? Insecticides don't work? Windex not doing it?

Flame thrower not doing it?

That's because you're killing only the ones that you can SEE.

You need to take out the nest AND the QUEEN.

For those of you who fell asleep in Junior High Science Class,

let's review the physiology of the ant, paying special attention to their

digestive tract.

The little buggers lack the ability to BURP.

Would anyone like to guess where we're going here...?

***listens to the crickets because most of the class has fallen asleep***

OK, for the one person who is still awake, only because they're getting paid

to take notes for the rest of the class...

In a small bowl, mix a 50/50 blend of BAKING SODA and SUGAR.

They will not only eat it, but will haul it back to the nest.

And since they can't burp, the baking soda causes gases to build up in their

little bodies until they burst like a ballon!!!

Now I can't guarantee that if you put your ear to the ground, that you'll hear

them popping like a roll of bubble wrap, but it will get the job done.

CLASS DISMISSED!!!

***gets trampled as the herd runs for the door***

Great info. Of course it's nice to have wealth (after we get the green light), but also great health. Thanks for sharing! 👍

I'd have zero doubts should I be forced to choose between health and wealth.....

But it's obvious it'd be nice to have both.....

Baking Soda is No Ally in Raising Alkaline Levels

Tuesday, 07 August 2018 14:47 By By Russell Jaffe, MD, Contributing Writer

baking sodaFor over 3 decades, I have championed the health benefits of being alkaline. Helping people alkalinize has long been a key tenet of my clinical practice. The Alkaline Way lifestyle program was created specifically to help people achieve and sustain the ideal acid/alkaline balance inside their cells.

Given my long experience studying and working with acid/alkaline balance, I want to weigh in on the recent articles touting baking soda as beneficial in reducing “the destructive inflammation of autoimmune diseases like rheumatoid arthritis,” that have been circulating in popular health media this year.

While I applaud this new focus on the benefits of alkalinizing, and wholeheartedly affirm that physiologic alkalinizing is essential to sustainable health, I contend that use of baking soda (sodium bicarbonate) to quell inflammation and autoimmunity brings more risk than benefit. In my opinion, it is actually a harmful choice that one should avoid.

False Alkalinity

Baking soda is indeed alkaline in the test tube. So it is logical to assume that regularly taking baking soda would be a simple yet effective way to alkalinize. But this is not the desired path to raising alkalinity.
Oral ingestion of bicarbonate creates a transient false alkalinity that can actually impair digestion. Intake of baking soda does not induce, repair, or stimulate alkaline cell renewal. It would be nice if there were a quick fix for this, like simply downing a daily dose of bicarbonate. But that’s simply not the case.

We advocate taking a physiologic approach that includes eating a diet that can be digested, assimilated, and eliminated without immune burden, and that includes sufficient alkaline foods to balance acid produced by metabolism. It is essential to maintain cellular energy (ATP/ADP ratio) so cells can electively protect themselves. Net Acid Excess (NAE) is increased by delayed immune reactions, toxic exposures, excess fat and protein, and processed foods. NAE is reduced by adequate hydration and mineral rich whole foods that nurture microbiome and metabolome.

Ensuring that net acids are balanced by alkaline food intake is crucial for effective immune defense and repair as well as neurohormonal balance that, in turn, downregulates inflammation while promoting resilience. This can be accomplished by including alkalinizing foods and minerals like magnesium, potassium, and zinc. And it is easy to monitor and guide the process with a daily urine pH after rest.

After six or more hours of rest, the fluid in the bladder equilibrates with the cells to give a useful self-assessment of how much alkaline intake is needed to balance metabolic net acid production. (Learn more about measuring urine pH.) The goal is a healthy pH ranging from 6.5-7.5.

A pH below 6.5 means that NAE is high. This can be ameliorated by increasing intake of alkalinizing MCT (medium chain triglycerides), alkaline amino acids, and minerals.

While it is true that baking soda can easily help neutralize many acids and transiently raise the urine pH, there are other bicarbonate effects to consider:

  1. Baking soda does not provide a healthy mix of minerals like magnesium to balance calcium, potassium to balance sodium and zinc to balance copper. These minerals are essential to maintain cell energy and function.
  1. Bicarbonate intake makes it more difficult to test acid-alkaline balance. The first morning urine pH is an effective biomarker for tracking the cellular acid/alkaline status of the body – how well you are alkalinizing. The intake of baking soda can skew the results such that it seems that the body has reached its desired acid/alkaline balance. This is both transient and misleading.
  1. Bicarbonate neutralizes stomach acid. Adequate stomach acid is essential for healthy digestion. Taking bicarbonates regularly can create a false alkalinity that compromises stomach function. People who routinely use baking soda often experience nausea, bloating and stomach cramps, especially if they are low in histidine, the amino acid that donates the stomach acid proton.
  1. The sodium load from baking soda can cause fluid retention, particularly edema and nephrotic syndrome in people with compromised kidneys or chronic kidney disease (CKD). Clinically, this means an eGFR of less than 30 ml/min; an eGFR of100 ml/min is considered “healthy.”
  1. Sodium bicarbonate can raise cardiovascular risk, owing to its high sodium load. Many people, especially those battling hypertension and cardiac issues, need to minimize their salt intake, not raise it.
  1. In high amounts, bicarbonate can precipitate leaching of minerals, especially magnesium and calcium, potassium and sodium, zinc and copper. These trace elements are essential for cellular health.

I have nothing against baking soda. In fact, I highly recommend using it in place of laundry detergents and various cleaning products. It also makes a good toothpaste alternative.

But for the reasons stated above, I don’t recommend ingesting baking soda as a route to alkalinization. I have always advocated a “physiology-first” approach to alkalinizing. Induce repair and stimulate alkaline cell renewal through a diet that can be digested, assimilated and eliminated without immune burden and that provides sufficient alkaline intake to balance NAE.
