A local official in the city of Tikrit, the new Arab newspaper, said on Thursday that armed groups have been stealing oil from Iraqi wells in Tikrit and Tuzhurmatu, and selling it to Iranian mafias at a price of six dollars per barrel.

The official said that 'the smuggling of Iraqi oil to Iran continues for the third month in a row, pointing out that the smuggling rate ranges between ten and fifteen thousand barrels, of the twenty-one oil wells near the cities of Tikrit and Tuz'

Noting that 'oil is extracted from the wells in a primitive way by water pumps are modified to be able to pull heavy crude'.

I doubt they are moving it to Iran in gallon milk jugs. Where is the mighty Iraq military that ousted ISIS ?? And 15,000 barrels a month at roughly $60/barrel is about $1M USD. I'm sure local officials are getting a 'cut' to look the other way. What a country of misfits.

Not even smart mice. $6 bucks a barrel.......I thought the black market was so you can make more money.. I guess it is hard to sell something so plentiful, like sea water on an island.B)

When your currency is less than a penny then 6 bucks can go much further than one thinks.  When you didn't pay to extract the oil and you have very little in the way of costs again, 6 bucks is better than no bucks or negative bucks.
