BAGHDAD (Reuters) - An earthquake shook a number of areas in Baghdad today, with another earthquake in Kirkuk and Halabja, with a magnitude of 5.3 on the Richter scale, press sources said.

The Seismological Observatory said its seismic observatories recorded a tremor of magnitude 5.4 on the Richter scale at 11:35:26 local time in Srebil Goh, west of Iran. Northeast of Khanaqin district. Citizens in Khanaqin felt strong and there was also a slight feeling in Baghdad, Diyala, Kirkuk and Halabja, with no reports of damage.

Eyewitnesses said the tremor in Baghdad was mild and felt by some local residents without causing any damage.

The United Nations General Authority for Aeronautics and Seismology (SEAS) published a report on Sunday in which the tremors that hit a number of areas in Iraq were reported. 

"Our seismic observatories recorded an earthquake on the morning of 1/4/2018, which was 5.4 degrees on the Richter scale at 11:35:26 local time in Sarbil Zahab," the agency said in a report received by Al-Ghad Press. / Iran, where the epicenter of the quake is 39 km northeast of Khanaqin district.

"People in the city of Khanaqin felt it, and there was a slight feeling in Baghdad, Diyala and Kirkuk," he said. 

"We did not want financial damage, and we will give you new reports in the event of any further developments."
