Iraq's policy persuades the UN Security Council to add
"three entries" to the sanctions list

During the past 15 years, many talks were uttered on economic administration  of the previous regime of Saddam Hussein, where some regarded this stage an economic flourishment and others said it was a state of chaos.

 

But, the main question, now, is what is happening in a country depending on its oil exports only.

 

During the 1970s, the Iraqi economy was the strongest among regional economies, due its economic and industrial revolution, as well as the increasing prices of oil.

 

But, later economic events changed due to the war against Iran, which meant more expenditure for the war machine, and heavy loans to buy arms for a long war, which continued for eight years.

 

Before the Iraqi-Iranian war, Iraq had about 300 billion dollars in reserves, but all evaporated due to the 8-year Iran war.

 

Later, the UN sanctions emerged after invading Kuwait, as well as destroying all factories and departments that damaged the full skeleton of the Iraqi economy.

 

The rule of Saddam Hussein ended and a new state emerged where democracy prevailed, but corruption spread, dead industry and agriculture with worse imported materials.

 

In short, Iraq has become the dump of world’s bad production.

 

The new governments depended on oil revenues and neglected agriculture and industry, as well as looting national budget through higher wages and fake contracts where the leaders of the country became partners in the deals.

 

Thus, Iraq entered in long dark tunnel of of corruption and wasting governmental revenues by the political elite and ruling parties.

 

Then came the oil crisis when the price of the oil barrel reached to 30 dollars that shook the Iraqi economy, to the extent of threatening the salaries of governmental officials.

 

Economists believe that the Iraqi government was in a mess position, where the oil bids led to depriving the national budget for years from its actual revenues through corrupt deals that reached to billion of dollars, in addition to the loans and their interests.

 

They believe that Iraq is passing through one of its worst economic stages, where no clear plans or programmes are announced to rectify yesterday’s mistakes.

 

In addition, the political circles and parties are “devouring” every cent entering the state’s budget through their negative economic trends and behavior.

Rafidain Bank announces the granting of loans of all kinds to citizens

Rafidain Bank announced on Monday the completion and granting of loans of all kinds to citizens during the month of February.
The bank’s information office said in a statement that the proceeds of the loans granted to citizens in February were granted building loans, which were set at 50 million dinars in a plot of land not less than 50 meters. The number of grant transactions was 95 transactions. And micro-enterprise loans of 15 million dinars, where 230 transactions were granted.

Planning Announces Lower Annual Inflation Rate in Iraq

The Ministry of Planning announced on Monday that the annual inflation rate in Iraq decreased by 0.8%, while the monthly inflation rate decreased by 0.3%.

The ministry said in a statement received by the "Journal News" that "the annual inflation rate for the period from March 2017 last to the same month of this year saw a decline of 0.8%," indicating that "the reasons for the decline in monthly inflation is due to the reduction of tobacco and transportation by 0.2% Of which 1%, housing and miscellaneous goods and services by 0.3% each, and restaurants decreased by 0.1%.

She added that "the monthly inflation rate during the month of March decreased by 0.3% compared to the month of February, which preceded it," indicating that "the process of collecting prices for the month of March, including all Iraqi provinces except Nineveh province, which was not included in the process because of the prevailing conditions.
