Baghdad -
Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi said on Tuesday that some wanted to throw the sums of the Kuwait conference on Iraq so that the corrupt will get the biggest part, while the referendum had serious consequences for the region, noting that the airports of Kurdistan will open soon.

"We do not want military forces to carry out any combat effort or any military effort," Abadi said in an interview with the German DW, followed by Alsumaria News.

He added that "the Kuwait conference is a first stage, and there is optimism and great interest by investment companies and countries and a positive outlook for Iraq," adding that "the Iranian side told us that he wants to help Iraq through his companies."

"Some wanted to throw the sums of the Kuwait conference on Iraq without an account, so that the corrupt will get the bulk of it," Ebadi said, pointing out that "we will not allow this."

On the relationship with Kurdistan, Abadi said that "the referendum had serious consequences for the region," explaining that "we are approaching the provision of salaries of staff of the minorities, but there must be proper control to ensure that the salaries go to the employee not to follow the parties and this is a serious issue.

He pointed out that "

The federal government and the Kurdistan region of great tension, after the last referendum on the separation on the twenty-fifth of last September, prompting the head of the central government Haider Abadi to impose several measures, including stopping international flights in airports Erbil and Sulaymaniyah, and to demand the region to hand over border crossings all land.

Haider Abadi: We are approaching the payment of salaries of employees of Kurdistan

Pointing to the near opening of airports in the region as well ...

Haider Abadi: We are approaching the payment of salaries of employees of Kurdistan

Iraqi Prime Minister Haider al-Abbadi said that Baghdad is "very close" to the return of salaries of employees in the Kurdistan Region, and that consultations regarding lifting the international air embargo on the airports of the region entered "the final stages."

"We are very close to providing salaries to employees and there must be proper supervision to ensure that salaries go to the employee and not go to party followers, and this is a serious issue and an important issue as well," he said in an interview with Deutsche DW.

With regard to the reopening of airports for international flights, Abbadi said that he will be lifted once the federal authority in these airports is confirmed.

He added that international flights will resume "within the next few days," adding that «we are in the final stages» of negotiations with the Kurds in this regard.

He pointed out that for the first time in Iraq, the federal government to send technical teams to review and audit the names of employees in the ministries of the Kurdistan Region.

"The task is not easy, there is an accumulation for many years," Abadi said, noting that the Kurdistan region has been "almost separate" from Iraq since 1991.

On the presence of US forces in Iraq, Abadi said: «The international coalition was established to fight the Da'ash in Iraq, but we do not want to go back as happened in the past», indicating that «we do not want military forces undertake any combat effort or any military effort».

"The Iranian side told us that it wants to help Iraq through its companies," he said, adding that "some wanted to throw out conference money. Kuwait on Iraq without an account, so that the corrupt get the bulk of the », and said:« We will not allow it ».

The Kurdistan region witnessed a financial crisis after cutting Baghdad to balance the region in 2014 even before it began to export oil independently to Turkey.

After tension with the Iraqi government in several files, the Kurdistan Region held a referendum in September 2017 and won sweeping support for independence, but Baghdad strongly confronted him and imposed a number of new punitive measures against the citizens of the region.

The Kurdistan region still faces difficulties in paying the salaries of government employees, amounting to 875 billion Iraqi dinars (800 million dollars) per month.

Abadi has already announced his intention to return the salaries of employees of Kurdistan, but that was not done, which prompted the provincial government to describe his statements propaganda.

Abadi is no dummy. The Kurds will be paid, the airport will be open, and I would say the oil deal will be complete before the elections.

With Maliki siding with Iran, Abadi needs all the votes in the election he can get.

Great post! Thanks 10YL.....Would actually be very funny if it wasn’t true....but it’s been going on for a very very very long time....to not be angry and frustrated is to really be out of touch with reality IMO.....I will join you in the strangling!!!! .....

So true & very sad, huh.

I think a brief announcement such as - “ the beatings and stranglings will commence until attitudes change “ could be a strong motivator. 😀

The stalling by the Barzani's net them $8m per day off the top if I remember correctly.

Until Abadi says ENOUGH! They will stall and stall and stall...

Yes, 90% are idiots but 10% are very crafty and driven by greed because they can get away with it.

Abadi is no Trump (to call them out) but had better hurry and quit playing politician because time is against him and the natives are getting restless.

This could get real ugly, real quick which is not in our best interest.

In order to stop or at least marginalize the corruption a big move must be made now or never, even if they have dirt on you Abadi.

Let the chips fall where the will or you are toast (or marginalized yourself) in the upcoming elections.

The time is past now, JUST DO IT!

Kurdistan considered as the most corrupted part of Iraq. According to Kurdish lawmakers billions of dollars are missing from Iraqi Kurdistan’s oil revenues.

A Kurdish lawmaker said in March 2017 the amount of $1.266 billion from oil exports and Iraqi Kurdistan’s revenue has gone missing over the last three months.

Massoud Barzani, the president of Kurdistan region from 2005-2017, has been accused by critics of amassing huge wealth for his family instead of serving the population. Barzani’s son is the Kurdistan region’s intelligence chief and his nephew Nechirvan Barzani is the prime minister.

Also the Talabani family including Jalal Talabani’s wife, Hero Ibrahim and her sons Bafel and Qubad and their relatives alongside other PUK leaders accused by observers and politicians of amassing huge wealth from oil business.

In October 2017, Iraq’s National Security Council announced that a probe has been launched into Kurdistan’s lucrative oil revenues and officials in the region who might have illegally monopolised the market.

“The corrupt will be exposed and the funds recovered,” said a statement from the council, headed by Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi.

BINGO, there is a lot going on. Why everything is in disarray, until they figure out the numbers, arrest the corrupt, and find ways to keep the money safe for projects and salaries.

Mr. Finley,

Good to hear from you.

I'm concentrating on the optimistic as well but they need to bust a move now.

Abadi is capable but needs to act and forget about the political fallout.

It is a fine line between brining your country into the 21st century and allowing a greed driven civil war.

Actions speak louder than words and his voice is being drowned out by the greedy politician owned media.

Not signing the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court (for whatever reason even if he had a less than stellar past) doesn't help.

Let's see what happens.

Take care my friend.

The high-level delegations from Erbil and Baghdad are due to resolve the differences over Kurdistan Region’s airports, customs and border lines, the source told Shafaq News.

He further revealed that the Kurdistan Regional Government has already agreed with most of the points in the political deal, the rest would remain under discussion.

Iraqi Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi said earlier the day that Erbil and Sulaymaniyah airports would soon be re-opened after over four months since Baghdad imposed a flight ban on the Kurdish region.

Feb 19 (Reuters) - U.S. oil company Chevron Corp on Monday said it had resumed drilling operations in the Kurdistan region of Iraq (KRI).

“Chevron can confirm that it has resumed its activities in the KRI and we have restarted drilling operations at our Sarta 3 field,” Chevron spokeswoman Sally Jones said in a statement.

The company had temporarily suspended operations in the region in October after a controversial independence referendum sparked tensions between Baghdad and the semiautonomous area’s government.

Before that, Chevron in September had drilled an oil well at its Sarta block in Iraqi Kurdistan after a two-year gap, as its confidence in the area was stablizing despite an international row over the region’s independence referendum plan.
