Саммит НАТО начинается в Брюсселе

  • 10 Jul. 2018 - 12 Jul. 2018
  •

The leaders of 29 NATO Allies and many partner nations will meet in Brussels on Wednesday and Thursday (11 and 12 July 2018) for a Summit at the Alliance’s new headquarters. Together, they will take decisions to strengthen NATO’s deterrence and defence, step up in the fight against terrorism, and achieve fairer burden-sharing.

20180710_180710-sg-pre-summit2.jpg

On Wednesday, defence spending and burden-sharing will be high on the agenda. In 2014, NATO Allies agreed to stop the cuts, start to increase and move towards spending 2% of GDP on defence within a decade. Since then, Allies have made major progress. “We expect 8 Allies to spend at least 2 percent of GDP on defence this year, compared to just 3 Allies in 2014,” said NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg. He noted that Allies are also investing billions in new equipment and stepping up their contributions to missions and operations. We estimate that European Allies and Canada will add an extra 266 billion US dollars to defence between now and 2024,” he said.

Leaders will also take decisions to step up NATO’s role in the fight against terrorism. They will agree to launch a new training mission in Iraq, with hundreds of NATO trainers. Military schools will also be set up to increase the professionalism of Iraqi forces. In addition, Allies will agree more support for key partners in the Middle East and North Africa, including Tunisia and Jordan.

To strengthen NATO’s deterrence and defence, leaders are expected to adopt a Readiness Initiative – the ‘Four Thirties’. “This is a commitment to have by 2020: 30 mechanised battalions; 30 air squadrons; and 30 combat vessels, ready to use within 30 days or less,” said the Secretary General. Allies will also agree a new NATO Command Structure, including a new command for the Atlantic in Norfolk, Virginia, a command for military mobility in Europe in Ulm, Germany, and a Cyber Operations Centre. In addition, Allies will discuss NATO’s response to hybrid threats and agree to set up new counter-hybrid support teams to help Allies at risk.

Allies are also set to invite Skopje to start accession talks. Once the historic agreement on the name issue is finalised and implemented, NATO will be able to invite the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia[1] to become NATO’s 30th member under its new name: the Republic of North Macedonia.

Later on Wednesday, Allies will address key security challenges with leaders from Finland and Sweden, as well as the Presidents of the European Council and the European Commission. Leaders will also meet with close partners, Georgia and Ukraine, on Thursday to discuss regional challenges, defence reforms and NATO’s continuing support.  The Summit will close with a meeting on Afghanistan, where NATO Resolute support partners will join Allies. “Our presence in Afghanistan is vital to ensuring the country never again becomes a safe haven for international terrorism,” said the Secretary General. Leaders are expected to agree to extend funding for the Afghan forces beyond 2020 and express their support for President Ghani’s peace initiative and reform efforts.

This is NATO’s 29th Summit. The first one was in December 1957, and the most recent took place in Warsaw in July 2016. The Summit is the seventh hosted in Brussels, and fifty-four official delegations will participate. This includes all 29 NATO Allies, 20 partner countries and representatives from the United Nations, the European Union, the World Bank and the NATO Parliamentary Assembly.

Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi's visit to Brussels to attend the meeting of the international coalition against Da'ash comes within the framework of the international community's belief that Iraq is still a "successful partner" in the open war on terrorism , the media advisor in the prime minister's office said on Thursday .

"Iraq's invitation to the NATO meeting in Brussels strengthens Iraq's international presence," Shammari said in a September 12, 2018 issue of his Facebook page. "Iraq is a difficult figure in the international equation against terrorism ."
Abadi stressed that the Brussels conference is a fruitful opportunity to continue discussions with world leaders, especially the supporting countries that promised at the Kuwait conference and elsewhere to lay the foundations for stability in the restored areas and other Iraqi provinces, creating thousands of jobs.

Al-Shammari pointed out that "Abadi will move through the conference in three tracks. The first is the security path, in which he will present Iraq's updated vision on the nature of security engagement with a sympathetic organization , the development of intelligence cooperation among the coalition countries , To Iraq from the coalition countries at the level of armament and raise the readiness of Iraqi forces training . " He added that the security track also includes discussing the threat posed by a preacher on the Iraqi border with the countries of the coalition and the need to quickly eliminate this organization in Syrian territory , and discuss the tasks that will be carried out by NATO at the level of raising the capabilities of our combat forces and the level of providing Iraqi military colleges with expertise .

The second track includes the reconstruction and humanitarian support pledged by the international coalition as part of its commitments after Iraq's victory over this organization militarily to consolidate stability in the restored areas .

The economic aspect of Abadi's visit is the Prime Minister's investment of the conference space, bilateral meetings with international officials for economic networking and the presentation of Iraqi investment opportunities to international companies for the sake of securing and providing employment opportunities for Iraqi youth .

Al-Shammari concluded by saying that Abadi will hold bilateral meetings with a number of heads of state and foreign ministers, representatives of western federations and organizations and military leaders in the international coalition .

Prime Minister Haidar al-Abadi, Defense Minister Irfan al-Hayali, traveled to Brussels yesterday evening to attend the conference on terrorism.

Canada takes command of new NATO mission in Iraq
[Oan- follow - up] the
Canadian government announced that it will receive NATO mission leadership [NATO] in Iraq, for a year, noting that it would send about 250 military and armored mechanisms and four helicopters to train Iraqi forces.
The government said in a statement on Wednesday that in preparation for Canada to take over a year to command the NATO mission to train and support Iraqi forces, it will send 250 troops and armored vehicles and four helicopters to Iraq.
"Canadian soldiers, led by Major General, will deploy from the fall of 2018 in the Baghdad area to help the Iraqi government build a more effective national security structure and develop training for Iraqi security forces," the statement said.
"The mobile training teams in support of NATO's anti-IED efforts have started to work," he said.
The Canadian government announcement coincided with a summit of NATO leaders in Brussels, where Canada has been involved since 2014 in a military coalition against terrorists by conducting air operations and providing medical support and training for Iraqi forces.
Canada has a military presence in Iraq with a force of 210 soldiers on the ground, and announced last June that the force is no longer providing assistance or training for Peshmerga fighters after a desperate defeat in northern Iraq.

Well, OK, I like the phrases “huge natural and Human Resources” “qualify” “economic advancement” “expect that” “near future” (not “soon” - I guess that is “different”) “subject to” “investment by international companies” “begun to accept Iraq” “providing thousands of job opportunities”.

Arab Nato is in the making as demise of Mullahs becomes nearer than ever

Countdown for fall of Mullah regime begins; Arab Nato 'in the making'

The efforts exerted by the US President Donald Trump to forge an  Arab Nato led by the United States and includes six Gulf states along with Egypt and Jordan is a concrete movement to counter Iranian terrorism, observers told The Baghdad Post on Saturday.

The new alliance is expected to be modeled after a similar coalition forged by the US after the Iraqi invasion of Kuwait in 1991, sources said.

The idea of a Middle East Strategic Alliance aka (MESA) was originally raised in Saudi Arabia during a Trump visit to Riyadh last year.  But the proposal didn't get off the ground.

Experts said that message will likely foment tensions with Iran to directly confront its moves in different fields.

Early on Saturday, sources confirmed that president Donald Trump is quietly pushing for forging a security and political alliance with Arab countries to confront Iranian expansion in the region.

Sources in the White House said that Trump wants to promote cooperation with these countries on missile defense, military training, counter-terrorism and other issues like supporting regional economic and diplomatic ties.

According to White House officials, the plan aims to forge what they called Sunni Arab Nato to stop Iranian interference in affairs of other countries in the region.

Sources said that Trump hopes that the proposal of the new alliance provisionally called (MESA) will be discussed during the potential summit in Washington planned to be held in OCT. 12-13.

White House said they have been working on the proposal for months.

A spokesman said that the Mesa will serve as a bulwark against Iranian aggression, terrorism, and extremism and will bring stability to the Middle East.

He didn't confirm that Trump will host a summit during this time.

Other sources with knowledge noted that whether the security plan will be completed in first half of October or not.

Iran is destabilizing the Middle East through suspicious movements and militias who are inciting sedition, sectarianism, and chaos in Sunni countries. An informed source said that installing a defensive missile shield will be among the key points of the plan.

Denmark sends 22 special experts to Iraq
(AFP) - Denmark announced on Friday its intention to send 22 technical experts to Iraq to confront the terrorist threat on the ground. "After military disintegration on the ground, it has become necessary to confront it technically."
It seems that sending these experts to fight the open space war with Dahesh is supported by parliamentarians with the approval of the Foreign Affairs Committee represented by all political parties to send them to "continue the war against Da'ash," according to a press statement issued by Foreign Minister Anders Samuelson.
"This is a priority issue to train Iraqis within the NATO project in the country to confront this organization with technology and communications," he said
